Went to see a lady we used to look after out in the community. She looked well. Loved her room. The en-suite was amazing. She was sat in the lounge. The lounge looked clean. And well kept. Staff were pleasant. Thank you.

My mum died on the 26th of January 2024 after spending 2 years at Oak Springs. Throughout her stay and especially towards her dentist she was treated with love, her dignity was preserved, her care exemplary. My family and I cannot express sufficiently our thanks to all the staff. We certainly could
not have coped. Oak Springs took care of us too and this holistic approach is often overlooked. Thank you once again.

I cannot thank the care and love shown to my mum over the past two and half years. She sadly passed earlier this month. She had a lot of physical needs, which were met to a very high standard. All the carers give their best and this is helped by the two lead carers on the ground floor who work so hard
and care so much - they are amazing. All the staff including the activities team, cleaners reception should be very proud of their work as they are all amazing. Thank you.
Reply from Andrea Lyon, Home Manager at Oak Springs Care HomeThank you for your kind words and for taking the time to review us, it was our absolute pleasure to care for your mum.

My brother lives at Oak Springs Care Home and he couldn't be better looked after. The home is bright and spotless, with a comfortable communal lounge on each floor. He has his own spacious ensuite room, which gives him independence and dignity. All the staff are amazing; they are friendly, caring, full
of fun, and my brother adores them. The food is top class, plentiful, and there is a choice of menu. There are regular and varied activities e.g. bingo, knit and natter, chair exercises (which includes boxing!), craft activities and trips to the local pub.

My dad was kept reasonably safe here and the care staff were extremely kind and very helpful, although not paid sufficiently. There are several areas for improvement - mostly related to culture/leadership. My dad was given incontinence pads on admission, even though he was not incontinent. When we asked
why, we were told it was for his own dignity. Oral health was neglected. My dad needed help to brush his teeth but didn’t get it regularly enough. Oak Springs asked for his medication to be reviewed shortly after his admission and he was prescribed benzodiazepines. He became zombie-like. After a number of falls and after we sought support from the visiting geriatrician, it was agreed to take him off it. My dad rarely had his hearing aids in as staff said there was a risk of swallowing. The geriatrician thankfully intervened. Access to fresh air was limited to the patio unless we took him out. When we raised a complaint, the manager struggled to take responsibility and often blamed staff.
Reply from Andrea Lyon, Home Manager at Oak Springs Care HomeThank you for taking the time to review Oak Springs.
Continence aids are prescribed for individual residents use only by an authorised prescriber, we do not carry stock of any continence products that are not prescribed for that individual. A referral must be made following a risk assessment to the continence team. All aspects of care planning are person-centered and are supported by external professionals' advice, support and guidance even though this may differ from the expectations of some family members. Throughout the pandemic outdoor visits were more restrictive, however we adhered to government guidance. Staff monitor residents' safety and a resident who has been identified as a high risk of choking must be taken seriously to reduce that risk. I am sorry that you feel that the manager did not take responsibility of a complaint, rest assured that I do take my role as manager as a responsive position, and would never engage in a blame factor culture. Kindest Regards Andrea Lyon.

With the majority of residents at Oak Spring suffering from dementia and the pressures that this creates, I do think that there are to enough staff. Oak Springs has some dedicated, caring staff; however, there are those who are not suited to a caring profession. Security from the locked doors can lapse
- more than once I have come in to visit, and the staff were not aware my father had been taken out by another family member. Also, the checks by the night staff have not detected that my father was still dressed, asleep in his chair with his TV on in the early hours of the morning.
Reply from Andrea Lyon, Home Manager at Oak Springs Care HomeThank you for taking the time to review us at Oak Springs. We do have sufficient staffing levels; this is calculated via a dependency tool that is used and reviewed regularly. I do feel that our care assistants are dedicated. It is a difficult job that they do, and without dedication, would be unable to continue. We do monitor our staff by holistic competencies and staff supervision. Night staff complete two hourly checks, and if a resident has the capacity and does not wish to get into bed, we do respect their decision, as it may differ from the expectations of the family.
Kind Regards.

Mum has been at Oak Springs Care Home for about twenty-two months. It was hard for her at first because of the pandemic and couldn't visit when wanted. Over time, she has settled in and made some good friends with residents and staff. The staff are great, especially the activities girls. Always looking
for things to keep them entertained. We always get a lovely welcome as soon as we come through the door from the lovely receptionist. One complaint is the wall at the back, I think that should've been well rebuilt.

My dad moved to Oak Springs in March this year. We had to try to find a care home, and it was personally recommended to us. Sadly, my dad passed away on 16th June. The care he received in the last few months of his life and the personal attention from the staff was exemplary, and we couldn't have wished
for anywhere better for him to have been in his final few months, weeks and days. I would like to thank all the staff for their kindness, care and consideration.

My mum has been at Oak Springs for a month now, and she settled immediately. All the staff are so caring and supportive and go out of their way to be of help. There are excellent activities organised each week, which cater for a wide range of interests. The outside space and roof terrace available to
the residents are very good resource. One important ethos of Oak Springs is that this is the residents’ home, and with that comes flexibility, commitment and passion from all staff members.

We, as a family, felt the love and the care from members of staff as soon as we stepped through the door of Oak Springs from reception to kitchen staff, caretaker, housekeeping and management, every member of staff took the time to introduce themselves to my dad and made us feel welcomed into Dad's
new home. Dad's room is bright, extremely clean and fresh and looks more like a boutique hotel. We are very impressed with the whole decor of his room as well as the community rooms, dining rooms and hallways. We, as a family, feel we now have peace of mind Dad will be looked after and cared for when we are not there. Thank you so much.

My brother-in-law is in Oaksprings Care Home.
The reception staff are very welcoming, and from then on, there is a lovely atmosphere in the care home.
The managers are approachable and listen to any concerns we may have, and it is obvious that they work hard to ensure the home is well run with staff
trained in dementia care.
All the staff have been extremely helpful to us each time we visit the willow suite, explaining how our relative has been and making sure all his needs are met, this is even when they are always so busy.
What a professional and caring team of staff who really do give a very high standard of care and go above and beyond their duties.
The cleaning staff are always busy making sure the rooms are clean and smell so fresh.
The laundry staff are lovely and are so helpful and pleasant.
The teamwork in the unit is fantastic, and everyone works together to keep the residents safe and happy, including the catering staff.
Well-run, professional, excellent care.

Current Review Score: 9.6 (9.598)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 9.6 (9.598) out of 10 for Oak Springs Care Home is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  1. The Average Rating is 4.6 out of 5 from 61 Reviews in the last 24 months.
  2. The score for the number of positive Reviews is 5.0 out of 5 from 59 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  1. 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months. The Average Rating of 4.598 for Oak Springs Care Home is calculated as follows: ( (496 Excellents x 5) + (179 Goods x 4) + (48 Satisfactorys x 3) + (6 Poors x 2) ) ÷ 729 Ratings = 4.598
  2. 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5'). The 5 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Oak Springs Care Home is based on 59 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    1. 4 points are available for the first 20 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews, 0.05 Points for the next five Positive Reviews, and finally 0.025 Points for the next ten Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.050, 7th = 0.050, 8th = 0.050, 9th = 0.050, 10th = 0.050, 11th = 0.025, 12th = 0.025, 13th = 0.025, 14th = 0.025, 15th = 0.025, 16th = 0.025, 17th = 0.025, 18th = 0.025, 19th = 0.025, 20th = 0.025) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 = 4
    2. 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 74 registered maximum number of service users is 14.8, which has been reached with 59 Positive reviews. Points = 1
  3. When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.
  4. If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.

I just love chatting with them and listening to their life experiences and interests. My role enables me to be creative and to think outside the box, as no two days are ever the same!

Job Title: Head Chef Joined: 2017

I am the Head Chef at Oak Springs and have been working with the team since 2017. I am the home's nutrition and hydration champion! I make sure our resident's menus offer a varied diet, following the correct portion sizes and food groups. I meet with every new resident to find out their likes and dislikes, so I can then incorporate them into the food menu.

In my spare time, I enjoy baking and going on long walks. I always enjoy coming to work, interacting with the residents, and hearing their stories. I like making everyone meals they enjoy eating, plus every resident gets a homemade Birthday cake made for them on their special day. I like to incorporate personal touches onto the cake to go the extra mile to make them smile!
