My husband entered Oak Springs at the end of May. The first few weeks were difficult, then he was moved from floor 1 Maple to the top floor, Willow. Life for him improved, therefore for me as well.
He is not happy but mostly content. He would like to be at home. The staff are all caring and treat him
with respect and dignity. If a problem arises, I am always helped by the management to discuss and sort them out.
The floor manager is always in full control, and if my husband is upset or has a problem, it will be sorted by them. Overall good.
Reply from Andrea Lyon, Home Manager at Oak Springs Care HomeThank you for your feedback, it is a difficult transition for residents and their loved ones moving in to a care home. We are happy to know he is content now. Kind regards Andrea

Have no criticisms at all with the care home. My cousin has been a resident for several years, and I think his needs are more than catered for by exemplary staff.

It is upsetting when your mother has to move into a home. It is reassuring, though, when you see so many staff speaking nicely to your mum and having a joke. It is not just the caring staff who are kind; the cleaners, etc., are too. Some of the caring staff are wonderful. They do more than their job
requires. They are caring people.

Having lived in a free and controlled lifestyle for many years, I found it a little difficult to be so restrained and "locked" in at the weekends and night time. Having my friends and former colleagues call to visit has been a big relief. I appreciate the excellent security. I would appreciate the meals
being served at a hotter temperature.

Mum is safe and cared for at Oak Springs and is fed and watered.
The food could be better but I appreciate that elderly people can be quite fussy and this is mass catering.
Activities could be more frequent and varied but mum often chooses not to join in. Staff are generally good/very good but there
is almost constant flow of care staff so more needs to be done to ration them.

All the staff on Walnut Suite made Mum welcome. They are kind, thoughtful and have a great sense of humour. Mum is the happiest I have seen her in years. There is an amazing range of activities and trips that keep her mind active. Her ensuite room is very spacious, and Mum was encouraged to make it
homely. I am so grateful for everyone's care and love. Moving Mum to Walnut Suite was the best thing ever.

From the minute my mother in law moved into Walnut Suite at Oak Springs, she started to 'live' again. All the staff treat her with care & affection. She told me she feels 'at home', which was important to me. 'Mum' has settled in well and made friends, and more importantl,y looks forward to every day
and the fun things that are on offer. We can't ask for more.

My mother in law was a resident here for about 8 months until she passed away on 1/4/25. The day she went from Oaksprings into hospital.
I always found the carers friendly, helpful and happy to explain things to you. The Activity staff always tried to get everyone involved in craft, knitting, bingo
etc I would especially like to thank one staff member in particular who really took charge when my mother-in-law was ill but I must also say how disappointed I was with the 2 managers who sadly couldn't pick up the phone to offer their condolences when my mother-in-law passed away neither made any contact with us.
Reply from Andrea Lyon, Home Manager at Oak Springs Care HomeThank you for your review. I was with your mother-in-law up until the ambulance crew arriving, I am sorry that you feel that managers was not in contact with you. But I did speak to your husband again when he came to the home to collect your mother-in-laws personal belongings. Maybe this was something he had not communicated with you.kind RegardsAndrea Lyon

Oak Springs has been a game-changer for my dad. He was in a different home before and had deteriorated quite quickly. The change I've seen in my Dad since coming here is unbelievable. He is always happy and so content now and the staff go above and beyond. The daily activities are amazing and everything
feels very much personable. My dad doesn't feel like just a number. They know him, his likes, his dislikes and it feels like a 'family' when visiting. Thank you so much for taking good care of him!

Mum was a resident of Oak Springs for over two years. At 91 she became ill and was taken to hospital and then released back to the care home on end-of-life care. I was privileged to stay with Mum in the care home for the last couple of days of her life. I cannot praise the staff enough. She was treated
with so much kindness and care. The staff were wonderful with Mum and myself. I am so grateful for everything they did for Mum and myself. Nothing was too much trouble.
They made a horrible event a lot easier. Mum was kept comfortable to the end and treated with dignity and respect.
Reply from Andrea Lyon, Home Manager at Oak Springs Care HomeThank you for your kind review, it is important for us to have our residents back home to the environment they are familiar with, staff they know and a place that's home, of course it's so sad for us to lose any of our residents, but it's the last greatest care we can deliver to ensure their passing is dignified with everyone around them who genuinely does care. I will be sure to pass your kind words on to our lovely staff. Many thanks Andrea.

My Father was a resident at Oak Springs from early in 2023. He had dementia and it was a difficult decision for him to be placed in care. He passed away early this month. I wish to thank all the staff at Oak Springs for the wonderful care given to my husband during his time as a resident with O.S. He was admitted as a full-time resident in March 2023. From the time of his admission he was treated with great care, respect, and understanding myself and my family are full
of gratitude for those who looked after my husband so well. We cannot thank the carers and all those in Oak Springs enough. My husband was content and calm throughout his time with O.S. and even though he was unable to communicate efficiently the staff met his needs with care and dignity. It gave me great peace of mind to know that we the right decision. Sincere thanks.

My friend was a resident of Oak Springs for over 6 years. The care provided has been exemplary. She was cared for during the very difficult period of Covid. Inevitably time was a number of challenges. The manager and her staff always met these challenges in a positive and caring way. They responded

Highly recommend, this care home has made an astounding difference to my dad in such a short time.
The team here are angels, so caring dedicated and attentive. Highly focused on what is best for my dad, his care and safety. Instead of being left to his own devices in his room, with little personal
care, which has happened in other homes, he is gently encouraged into communal areas and engaged and conversed with. His personal care has also increased and he has never looked better.
I cannot thank the team enough, four members of staff in particular.
My dad is happy, settled, cared for, and safe.
I visited and assessed a lot of homes in my search for the right one for Dad. I'm
so happy we chose Oak Springs.

Current Review Score: 9.6 (9.598)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 9.6 (9.598) out of 10 for Oak Springs Care Home is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  1. The Average Rating is 4.6 out of 5 from 61 Reviews in the last 24 months.
  2. The score for the number of positive Reviews is 5.0 out of 5 from 59 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  1. 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months. The Average Rating of 4.598 for Oak Springs Care Home is calculated as follows: ( (496 Excellents x 5) + (179 Goods x 4) + (48 Satisfactorys x 3) + (6 Poors x 2) ) ÷ 729 Ratings = 4.598
  2. 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5'). The 5 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Oak Springs Care Home is based on 59 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    1. 4 points are available for the first 20 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews, 0.05 Points for the next five Positive Reviews, and finally 0.025 Points for the next ten Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.050, 7th = 0.050, 8th = 0.050, 9th = 0.050, 10th = 0.050, 11th = 0.025, 12th = 0.025, 13th = 0.025, 14th = 0.025, 15th = 0.025, 16th = 0.025, 17th = 0.025, 18th = 0.025, 19th = 0.025, 20th = 0.025) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 = 4
    2. 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 74 registered maximum number of service users is 14.8, which has been reached with 59 Positive reviews. Points = 1
  3. When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.
  4. If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.

I am the Head Chef at Oak Springs and have been working with the team since 2017. I am the home's nutrition and hydration champion! I make sure our resident's menus offer a varied diet, following the correct portion sizes and food groups. I meet with every new resident to find out their likes and dislikes, so I can then incorporate them into the food menu.

In my spare time, I enjoy baking and going on long walks. I always enjoy coming to work, interacting with the residents, and hearing their stories. I like making everyone meals they enjoy eating, plus every resident gets a homemade Birthday cake made for them on their special day. I like to incorporate personal touches onto the cake to go the extra mile to make them smile!
