Staff are very caring and genuinely seem to care for residents. They take time to talk and give hugs and use Christian names, very welcoming. The staff are the home's biggest asset, they all speak English and can be understood by my mum. Mum likes the activities and care treatments. The bed times are
too early at 8 pm - around 10 pm would be preferred. Room repairs, e.g., water in bathroom, need to be remedied quickly. Top up fees expensive.

Staff on Willow are very good. Mum I think finds it difficult to integrate with others or find anything to occupy her during the day, though this is difficult as she does not really try to do so. Otherwise, mostly she appears happy, which is the main thing.

A comfortable, well maintained environment. Regular activities throughout the week. Staff on the Maple Suite are committed to keeping residents safe and well cared for with dignity and compassion. They all work hard, sometimes under very challenging circumstances.

Mum has only been at Oak Springs for the last month, but she and we have all been welcomed with open arms and made to feel like part of the Oak Springs family. We are still getting used to mum no longer being at home and her new routines, but have been delighted with the progress she has made since
moving in, and she seems happy and settled. Thank you all for everything you do for her. Her keyworker is wonderful, as are all of you.

My wife has now been a resident for 3 1/4 years and shows no signs of physical distress or discomfort, even though she is non-verbal and spends most of her time asleep! Her reclining chair has been a blessing for everyone, despite its size! Daughter Clare usually gives Mum the evening meal, and apart
from the occasional problem with constipation, her food is sufficient and wholesome. Staff are caring and supportive, and there are no issues.

Overall experience of Oak Springs is excellent! Our mum is very well cared for with care being the operative word. We cannot commend the "home" enough. My wife has been in Oak Springs for just over 6 years. She is well looked after and the staff on the whole are excellent, especially the long serving ones. I feel some of the new ones could benefit from more training.
Entertainment team are excellent and we are kept up to date via social media.

My wife has been in the home for 3 1/2 years. The care she has received has been very good. The main negative point has been the large turnover in staff, only one has remained in the 3 1/2 years. The present staff are very good, but I wish they would wear name tags, as my memory for names is not good
at my age. The laundry and the loss of clothing is another sore point!

The reception staff, including the lady who works at the weekend, have been extremely helpful lately. They are always pleasant and willing to assist, no matter how busy they are. This weekend they have been especially helpful while the lift hasn't been working. They also make a fuss when I take mum
in and out of the home, this makes a massive difference to my mum. More activities would be good at the weekend and evenings.

My husband arrived at Oak Springs last October 2024 on Maple Suite. He has been so well looked after; the carers are sincere, helpful, caring and go over and beyond with the care they give. Entertainment, Oak Springs got talent, the activities they do. I can not fault Maple Suite. If I phone, they reassure
me all is well. I go 4 times a week and I am so happy my husband is in a wonderful home.

Dad settled in quickly once he arrived and he said he was made to feel quite at home. Staff have been very attentive and nothing has been too much trouble. In addition, staff have been very supportive to myself and my sisters during dad's transition to Oak Springs.

Staff are all very helpful and friendly, but are always very busy. Rooms are nice but my Mum's bathroom is in need of an update, as is the bedroom carpet. Towels are often threadbare. Overall, Walnut is a great floor with lots of activities which are enjoyed by all. The staff make it.

My husband entered Oak Springs at the end of May. The first few weeks were difficult, then he was moved from floor 1 Maple to the top floor, Willow. Life for him improved, therefore for me as well.
He is not happy but mostly content. He would like to be at home. The staff are all caring and treat him
with respect and dignity. If a problem arises, I am always helped by the management to discuss and sort them out.
The floor manager is always in full control, and if my husband is upset or has a problem, it will be sorted by them. Overall good.

Andrea

Andrea Lyon

Job Title: Home Manager Joined: 2010

With over 30 years experience of in nursing and care, Oak Springs’ registered manager Andrea Lyon has a well-practised approach to providing care with kindness, compassion and dignity.


Over her career she has worked in the NHS in a number of roles including acute medical wards, hospital night teams, discharge teams and as an A&E manager supporting junior doctors. She transitioned to residential care, where she has worked in various homes as a care manager, deputy manager, and now manager.


Her qualifications range from a Level 5 Certificate in management for health and social care to various Diplomas in dementia and care for older people, as well as awards in medication management, end of life care and residential care. In her spare time, Andrea enjoys spending time with family, including her three grandchildren and her dog Teddy, who will soon be trained to deliver pet therapy to those living in Oak Springs.

Amanda

Amanda Pettitt

Job Title: Deputy Manager Joined: 2010

Amanda’s role as deputy manager at Oak Springs perfectly complements her 11 years experience of in nursing and care. Starting as a health care assistant, she has demonstrated considerable passion and hard work, which has seen her progress to senior and managerial roles in a short space of time.


As well as deputising for our manager, Andrea, Amanda ensures that our philosophy of care is instilled across Oak Springs and works with members of the care team to deliver this. She has a number of qualifications and Diplomas in health and social care, dementia care, infection prevention and much, much more.


In her spare time, Amanda enjoys socialising with friends, taking long walks in country parks, visiting the theatre and travelling when she can.

I have been an Activity and Community Coordinator with Oak Springs since October 2022.


I engage with residents and their families to help organise, plan and carry out activities and trips. I provide entertainment within the home to stimulate the resident’s needs for fun, socialisation, interaction and mobility, all whilst boosting their confidence.


I ensure our residents feel involved and valued. I enjoy learning from our residents. They teach me new things every day. I just love chatting with them and listening to their life experiences and interests. My role enables me to be creative and to think outside the box, as no two days are ever the same!

I work on the Dementia unit here at Oak Springs and have done since I joined in January 2021. I am a dementia and wellbeing champion and love to help our residents with their needs daily. I love my job; I love caring for my residents and in my spare time I enjoy spending quality time with my family.
I am continually improving my knowledge and skills by learning more and more about dementia. I understand how dementia affects our residents individually and their families also. I am most proud of my role and its ability to help numerous residents every day and make a difference in their quality of life.

I make sure our resident's menus offer a varied diet, following the correct portion sizes and food groups. I meet with every new resident to find out their likes and dislikes, so I can then incorporate them into the food menu.


In my spare time, I enjoy baking and going on long walks. I always enjoy coming to work, interacting with the residents, and hearing their stories. I like making everyone meals they enjoy eating, plus every resident gets a homemade Birthday cake made for them on their special day. I like to incorporate personal touches onto the cake to go the extra mile to make them smile!
