We found the staff to be truly wonderful, very helpful and caring. Edwardstow is a very clean, nicely furnished care home. It has a calming effect when entering the building. I cannot sing the praises of all staff highly enough. Greatly enjoyed my stay with them all.

We moved my mum, who has dementia, into Edwardstow in April this year. Despite this being a difficult process for the family, the Edwardstow team were so kind, caring, informative and overall basically just brilliant from the start. It felt like I was leaving my mum in experienced and considerate
hands. Since my mum has been at the home, we have actually seen an improvement in her overall demeanour, whereas she was beginning to fade away at home. She is making friends and doing things that she would point blank refuse to do previously.
Whenever I visit her, I always feel that the atmosphere of the home is full of positive energy. The staff are generous in their kindness and I feel huge gratitude towards Edwardstow, the manager and his team.

Edwardstow isn't just a place of safety, but somewhere she is truly cared for as she deserves. The care team treat all the residents as they would their own family, they work very hard to ensure she has everything she needs; good food, a warm and cosy environment and plenty of activities to keep her
just busy enough. On top of that they take time to get to their residents and talk about their interests . They keep us up to date on everything and it's never a problem to just drop in and have lunch, or to take her out at a moments notice. The little on site cafe is a lovely space to be able to have privacy, whilst enjoying a coffee and a treat, and it is always clean and welcoming. I Highly recommend.

The layout, decor and equipment are perfect. Especially impressive is that the building is light and airy with soft colours encouraging a sense of peace and harmony. As a visiting friend said, 'it's like a first class hotel'. Not only is the cooking of the highest standard, the variety, presentation
and ease-of-eating of the food is an eye-opener for anyone caring for loved-ones with dementia - several soft portions on small plates in as many different colours as you can muster. Most obviously a care home needs carers who see their role as much more than just a job that earns them money. As well as being well-trained, they need to have empathy and understanding - neither of which is easy to keep up day after day on 12 hour shift. Edwardstow Court has them in abundance. PS My views are based on two weeks' respite care for both myself and my partner of some 57 years plus daily visits to be with her now that she is a permanent resident.

We came to visit the day after she was released from hospital after her fall. Her face was badly bruised and cut she had lost a lot of weight. Didn't know my husband and me at all, had lost so much weight and wouldn't talk, that was in December. Since then she has improved so much in every way. January
she was more herself and by February she looked and talked as she always had, it is now a pleasure to visit. The staff are a delight.

I went to Edwardstow Court after hospitalisation for a severe bout of influenza. The facilities of the Court were entirely suitable for my needs, whilst basically, were to rebuild my strength and health in an attempt to return to my ability to live alone without help. Everything about the Court is of
a very high standard. There is an impressive and tasteful feel about everything, in the construction and fitting out. You get the immediate feeling that the people will be happy here, as I was in for a short time settling in, despite the illness. The atmosphere was aided by friendliness and companionship which residents and staff exceeded. A great home.

Excellent support and understanding plus amazing patience. My husband is a tall and quite fit 78 year old but his dementia is severe. He is constantly looking for food and is cunning about finding it even with his type 2 diabetes. The latter he does not understand now, although he has been on medication
for 17 years! The activities are great and with a willful escape artist, they understand he needs to get outside! My only concern is the presence of biscuits, breakfast marmalade etc always in the kitchen area which he can easily access when he says "I need to go to the loo!"

The atmosphere at Edwardstow is fantastic due to the caring, dedicated and cheerful staff. Residents are treated with care, respect and genuinely positive energy. There is a real emphasis on engaging families and friends of residents, alongside the wider community, which helps the home to feel open
and inclusive - not in any way cut off. The range of activities and outings on offer is a real asset. I've been impressed with the interface between local medical and nursing care, which means any issues or ailments are picked up quickly and managed well. Facilities are always spotless and mum's room is clean, modern and very comfortable. We particularly enjoy the gardens and the woodland walk, and the lovely cafe is a welcome space to host visitors. I highly recommend Edwardstow.

Right from my first visit to Edwardstow, I have felt confident and relaxed with the care the establishment provides. Dementia with one's spouse is a difficult and very stressful journey. The last thing I require would be stress related to the quality of care my wife is receiving. I really cannot fault
the physical premises and the professionalism of the staff who, without exception, go out of their way to ensure their guests and family and friends' needs are well catered for. Edwardstow is a lovely place which I strongly recommend.

My husband has been staying at Edwardstow for 4 weeks on the dementia floor. I feel that he is receiving excellent compassionate and consistent care. The staff are cheerful pleasant and polite. They know the patients and often greet visitors by name. Visitors are always made welcome, I am always kept
informed of any issues or changes in his condition and I am aware of the knowledge and professionalism of the staff. There are organised activities for those who are able to join in and the catering is of a very good standard, being adapted to individual needs. Matthew

Matthew Peach

Job Title: General Manager

Joined: 2017

Matt is the General Manager at Edwardstow Court. His journey at home has been one of development and progression since he first started as a Cook in March 2018.


Reflecting on his time at the home, Matt said: “I am passionate about development. The team at Edwardstow Court and the wider OSJCT team have supported me to progress from Cook to Head Chef, to Bursar, to Bank Care Leader, to Deputy Home Manager and most recently, in July 2024, into the General Manager position.”


Having worked in a variety of roles throughout the home, Matt fully understands the support Edwardstow Court provides, and it is something he takes a lot of pride in.


“I've always been interested in work that involves helping others and making a positive impact. I enjoy being an active member of my community and helping people. Each day is different and the joy I get from a simple thank you when I have helped a resident, or their families makes me feel I have made a difference.”


Matt also takes pride in the recognition that OSJCT gives to himself and his colleagues at their annual Trust Recognition Awards. “The Trust Recognition Awards in 2022 was a particularly proud moment for me. We had four team members who received nominations with 3 eventual winners and 1 runner-up.”


Outside of work, Matt enjoys spending time with his family. He is a proud father to 5 children and loves to spend time away with his family, away from the hustle and bustle of everyday life, at his favourite place, Weymouth.

Kerry

Kerry Brooks

Job Title: Deputy Manager

Joined: 2007

Kerry is the Deputy Manager at Edwardstow Court.


Having started working for OSJCT in 2007, Kerry has had lots of experience working across several homes and roles to progress into her current position as Deputy Manager at Edwardstow Court.


Reflecting on the favourite parts of her role, Kerry said: “I take enjoyment and pride out of making sure our residents feel happy and safe at Edwardstow Court. I love to listen to their stories and share mine with them.”


Outside of work, Kerry enjoys walking with her dog Oscar and looks forward to the warmer days when she can relax by the pool with a book of her choice.

Gemma

Gemma Joynes

Job Title: Carer

Joined: 2013

Gemma joined the Trust in 2013 as a housekeeper before progressing to a carer and has also worked with us as an Activities Co-ordinator. Gemma has been our Dementia Lead since 2014, working alongside our Head of dementia care to provide excellent dementia care. She has completed her BTEC Level 2 Award in Supporting Activity Provision in Social Care. In Gemma’s spare time, she loves to spend time with her two children and husband and having family days out.

Susan

Susan Loton

Job Title: Head of Dementia Care

Joined: 2008

Sue started working for OSJCT in 2008 and is the Head of Dementia Care at Edwardstow Court.


Initially, Sue started as a Carer at Jubilee Lodge before being promoted to Care Leader in 2010. When Edwardstow Court opened in 2018, Sue made the move across and has been part of the Edwardstow family ever since.


“I enjoy being part of the team at Edwardstow Court and being a part of our resident’s everyday lives. We always encourage them to live their best life at Edwardstow Court” Sue said.


When she isn’t working at Edwardstow, Sue enjoys spending quality time with her husband and daughter.

Kim

Kim Maunoury

Job Title: Care Leader

Joined: 2018

Kim has been a Care Leader at Edwardstow Court since the home first opened 2018.


Speaking of her passion for her job, Kim said: “I love knowing that we make a difference for our residents and their families. I enjoy the fact that I am giving our residents respect and dignity through the role that I do. I enjoy hearing all of their amazing stories, and I love that every day is different.”


When asked about her favourite memory during her time at Edwardstow Court, Kim reflected on the very first day they opened. “The one memory that sticks in my mind is the day we first opened and our first resident arrived. She was a lovely lady and was treated like a queen!”


Outside of work, Kim loves spending time with her family. She is also a keen reader and enjoys taking some time out to go abroad on holiday.

Ellen

Ellen Stephens

Job Title: Chef

Joined: 2020

Ellen is one of our talented Chefs at Edwardstow Court.


Ellen has worked at Edwardstow Court for 5 years. She initially joined as part of the housekeeping team before finding an opportunity to fulfil her passion for cooking in her role as Chef.


Speaking about her passion for role at Edwardstow Court, Ellen said: “My favourite place to be is the kitchen, and I enjoy the role I play in supporting our residents at Edwardstow Court. I never had the opportunity to care for my mother in the later stages of her life, so this role feels like a second chance. I consider every resident to be a part of my family.”


In her spare time, Ellen loves to travel and spend time with her husband and their dog.

Erin

Erin Lockyer

Job Title: Carer

Joined: 2024

Erin has worked as a Carer at Edwardstow Court since November 2024.


“I love working at Edwardstow Court because I get the opportunity to meet people from all walks of life and help them do things they might struggle to do for themselves” Erin said.


During her time working at the home, Erin has identified two areas of the home that are her favourite spaces to be in with residents. “The household lounges have a cosy community feel in the winter months, and I love spending time outside in the beautiful garden with residents throughout the summer.”


Outside of work, Erin enjoys visiting different places with her family.

Iskra Valkova

Job Title: Night Care Leader

Iskra is one of our brilliant Night Care Leaders and has worked at Edwardstow Court for over 5 years.


During this time, Iskra has achieved her degree of Bachelor Science in Health and Social Care with First Class Honours. She also received the highest dissertation mark of her cohort.

Caroline

Caroline Mkai

Job Title: Activities and Wellbeing Co-ordinator

Joined: 2024

Caroline is one of our Activities and Wellbeing Co-ordinators, and a part-time Administrator at Edwardstow Court.


Regular engagement in activities and meaningful occupation can improve cognitive function, increase mood, and even enhance physical health for residents, especially those living with Dementia.
Activity Co-ordinators are vital in facilitating these opportunities for social interactions as well enabling residents to pursue or even learn new interests and skills.


Reflecting on her time at Edwardstow Court so far, Caroline said: ‘My journey at the home started as a Housekeeper in August 2024. The desire to have more interaction with the residents has led me to pursue my current role’


The caring and creative characteristics needed in her current roles come naturally to Caroline.
