My dementia suffering dad has been attending Edwardstow for day care and respite. We recently met with Matt and Gemma to discuss possible long term residential care. I cannot speak highly enough about these two individuals. The support they have given my mum throughout the whole process has been outstanding. They approach everything with the utmost sensitivity, empathy and care. Making an incredibly emotional and testing time as easy as possible. You are both a real credit to the organisation you work for and I cannot thank you enough for everything you do for dad and mum. There is not a single doubt that dad will get the best care possible at Edwardstow.

I stayed at Edwardstow for two weeks Respite care after a knee operation. I had looked around before my stay and knowing what to expect helped me to settle in comfortably. The carers were friendly, helpful and cheerful, despite being very hard working. They offered help if needed but were never intrusive and this enabled me to find my level of independence safely. As a result I felt free to do things for myself as much as possible which aided my recovery and encouraged confidence in my ability to cope on leaving. Friends and family were able to visit and I enjoyed sharing meals with them, with a glass of wine. A small, private dining area being available for such occasions was a huge plus! I would also mention weekly hairdressing and a bright, cheery cafe which was open every day for all to use. I will need more surgery soon and would definitely choose Edwardstow again.
Thank you for taking the time to share such a thoughtful review of your respite stay at Edwardstow following your knee operation. Thank you for taking the time to share such a thoughtful review of your respite stay at Edwardstow following your knee operation. We are delighted to hear that visiting beforehand helped you feel comfortable and settled from the start. Your kind comments about our carers mean a great deal. We are proud of the friendly, supportive care they provide, and it is wonderful to know they helped you maintain your independence and confidence during your recovery. Supporting residents to do as much as they safely can for themselves is something we strongly believe in, so we are especially pleased this had such a positive impact on your rehabilitation. It is also lovely to hear that you enjoyed spending time with your friends and family, particularly sharing meals together in the private dining area and making use of our caf and hairdressing services. Thank you once again for your recommendation and trust in Edwardstow. We wish you all the very best with your upcoming surgery.

Once of the main things I love about Edwardstow Court is how so much of what happens is resident led eg I now teach BSL as the residents enjoyed a trial session and we now do it every fortnight. They want to be able to communicate with dignity.
I always leave feeling uplifted.

Thank you so much for your incredibly kind words and for the time, care and enthusiasm you bring to Edwardstow Court. We are truly grateful for the wonderful contribution you make, both as a general volunteer and alongside your Therapy Dog. The joy and comfort you help bring to our residents means more than we can say, and it's always a pleasure to welcome you through our doors.
It's especially lovely to hear your thoughts about our resident-led approach. Supporting our residents to shape their own experiences, like choosing to continue with BSL sessions so they can communicate with dignity, is something we're very proud of. The fortnightly classes you now teach are such a brilliant example of how meaningful activities can grow from listening to what our residents want.
See you again soon.

Edwardstow isn't just a place of safety, but somewhere she is truly cared for as she deserves. The care team treat all the residents as they would their own family, they work very hard to ensure she has everything she needs; good food, a warm and cosy environment and plenty of activities to keep her just busy enough. On top of that they take time to get to their residents and talk about their interests . They keep us up to date on everything and it's never a problem to just drop in and have lunch, or to take her out at a moments notice. The little on site cafe is a lovely space to be able to have privacy, whilst enjoying a coffee and a treat, and it is always clean and welcoming. I Highly recommend.

The layout, decor and equipment are perfect. Especially impressive is that the building is light and airy with soft colours encouraging a sense of peace and harmony. As a visiting friend said, 'it's like a first class hotel'. Not only is the cooking of the highest standard, the variety, presentation and ease-of-eating of the food is an eye-opener for anyone caring for loved-ones with dementia - several soft portions on small plates in as many different colours as you can muster. Most obviously a care home needs carers who see their role as much more than just a job that earns them money. As well as being well-trained, they need to have empathy and understanding - neither of which is easy to keep up day after day on 12 hour shift. Edwardstow Court has them in abundance. PS My views are based on two weeks' respite care for both myself and my partner of some 57 years plus daily visits to be with her now that she is a permanent resident.

Didn't know my husband and me at all, had lost so much weight and wouldn't talk, that was in December. Since then she has improved so much in every way. January she was more herself and by February she looked and talked as she always had, it is now a pleasure to visit. The staff are a delight.

I went to Edwardstow Court after hospitalisation for a severe bout of influenza. The facilities of the Court were entirely suitable for my needs, whilst basically, were to rebuild my strength and health in an attempt to return to my ability to live alone without help. Everything about the Court is of a very high standard. There is an impressive and tasteful feel about everything, in the construction and fitting out. You get the immediate feeling that the people will be happy here, as I was in for a short time settling in, despite the illness. The atmosphere was aided by friendliness and companionship which residents and staff exceeded. A great home.
After a difficult time at home with my husband's worsening symptoms of Vascular Dementia, my family and I decided to enter him into the care of Edwardstow Court and have been delighted with his subsequent care and well-being. He has been treated with patience, dignity, and at all times kindness.

Excellent support and understanding plus amazing patience. My husband is a tall and quite fit 78 year old but his dementia is severe. He is constantly looking for food and is cunning about finding it even with his type 2 diabetes. The latter he does not understand now, although he has been on medication for 17 years! The activities are great and with a willful escape artist, they understand he needs to get outside! My only concern is the presence of biscuits, breakfast marmalade etc always in the kitchen area which he can easily access when he says "I need to go to the loo!"
My 91-year-old husband goes every Thursday to the daycare from 10:00 am to 4:00 pm. It is well organised and he has made a few friends there.

I have worked in the catering industry for the past 12 years, starting as a pot washer and working my way up to head chef in a local pub, then moving into catering for members at a local golf club before moving here to Edwardstow in September last year.
I started here as a cook and have recently been promoted to head chef. I would say my favourite part of working here is being able to provide quality home-cooked meals for our residents, especially those living with dementia, as mealtimes are often a special time in their day and I am committed to making them memorable with meals that they enjoy, and the feelings that it can evoke are something words can’t describe.
Outside of work, I enjoy spending time with family, especially my younger sister, niece and nephew, as well as watching all sorts of sports like football, horse racing, darts and American football.

I have worked at Edwardstow Court since the day we opened in March 2018. I first worked as a care leader, and now I work in the housekeeping team, which I enjoy as I am still able to interact with the residents and families.
This is my favourite part of my job; I like to make a difference to someone's day. I have previously worked at Specsavers making glasses for customers. I have been married to my husband for 46 years, and we enjoy holidays in the sun. I also enjoy spending time with my beautiful grandson and granddaughter.

Regular engagement in activities and meaningful occupation can improve cognitive function, increase mood, and even enhance physical health for residents, especially those living with Dementia.Activity Co-ordinators are vital in facilitating these opportunities for social interactions as well enabling residents to pursue or even learn new interests and skills.
Reflecting on her time at Edwardstow Court so far, Caroline said: ‘My journey at the home started as a Housekeeper in August 2024. The desire to have more interaction with the residents has led me to pursue my current role’
The caring and creative characteristics needed in her current roles come naturally to Caroline.‘I have always had a caring nature and try to be helpful where possible, now I can put both qualities into my work to make a real difference.
