My father-in-law moved to Star and Garter High Wycombe in July. I cannot thank them enough for giving him such a safe and comfortable environment.

He is still mentally active and receives lots of one-to-one support as well as varied activities. Sometimes he chooses not to do the activities, but

that is ok as he never complains of boredom or anything else. He seems happier and much less anxious - better, I think, than with all the love and care we provided for him in his own home.

His move has been a godsend for his family. Its hard at first not having to think and worry for your loved ones, but no longer needing to organise carers, medical appointments, physios, chiropodists, eye and hearing clinics, dentists, assessments etc is a huge weight off our shoulders and makes a big improvement to family life. Cheaper too.

The nurses, dementia staff, carers and admins are lovely. All seem to enjoy the residents and working at Star and Garter, which confirms we made the right choice 100%.

The staff are so caring, friendly and attentive. My mum is treated with gentleness, respect and a happy smile. She is always clean, smart and comfortable. She has activities and social events to stimulate her and always a choice to take part or not. I feel confident and content that she is relaxed and
safe and that staff are well trained and genuinely eager to look after her and her needs. The home is very welcoming and has a definite family feel.

My mother has been a permanent resident since April, following two weeks respite stay. She is settled, happy and well-cared for. The staff are excellent, professional, caring and friendly. There are plenty of activities that residents can take part in, if they wish, as well as trips out every week. The
Royal Star and Garter High Wycombe is more like a hotel than a care home. I cannot praise it or the staff highly enough. I would be very happy to stay there myself.

Both my parents moved to the Royal Star & Garter early this year and during the last 6 months they have only ever experienced kindness and care from the whole team at High Wycombe.
The staff have gone above and beyond to ensure both my mum and dad have settled in to their respective families. With
one being in nursing and the other in dementia, we have experienced both areas of care and I can honestly say neither disappoint. The facilities at High Wycombe are fantastic and nothing ever seems too much trouble. I would highly recommend the Royal Star & Garter to anyone seeking a care home for their loved ones.

I stayed here for four weeks of respite care. The staff are friendly and cheerful. The home is very well run and clean. The food was imaginative with an A La Carte menu. I am very lucky.

My father has been a resident in one of the dementia families for about 6 months, and as I am local I manage to visit regularly. What is most striking is that he is always happy. Having had live-in support at home for several years he is thriving being part of a community and throws himself into the
activities, particularly anything musical. There have been rare occasions when his condition means he becomes frustrated and agitated, but the staff are fantastic at making him feel comfortable again; they are able to do this because they have taken the time to get to know him so well. Being a new, purpose built facility, the environment is first class and provides everything that Dad needs.

My dad was a resident at the Royal Star & Garter for eighteen months in the dementia section. Care goes way beyond looking after the physical needs and the staff took the time and effort to connect with dad and become friends as well as carers. They excelled in this area and made dad's time as happy
as possible, sharing jokes and spending time engaging with dad in activities. I am very grateful to the staff for the effort that they put in this area.
The facilities are also second to none. It is a new purpose build, the accommodation for residents is first class as are the facilities for visitors and resident entertainment purposes.
Our whole family can highly recommend this care home - it is just such a great combination of staff, facilities and care management. Simply Gold Standard and a benchmark for the care sector.

After years of being bed-bound and cared for at home, the hard decision was made for my husband to be moved into the Royal Star & Garter - High Wycombe for end-of-life care. With the outstanding nursing care and the amazing love and attention from all the staff, he was able to fulfil a very happy and
comfortable year there. They went above and beyond and were even able to arrange for him to visit the garden and attend activities with the other residents. As a family, we cannot recommend the Star and Garter highly enough and we will always be grateful for the wonderful year that he had there.

Moving my mother into the Royal Star & Garter was the best decision I made. The care given to her is exceptional, and she has a very close bond with all the members of staff. The facilities are outstanding, and the activities and entertainment provided are wonderful. I cannot rate the home highly enough
and would recommend to anyone looking for a care home.

When our mother’s dementia meant that she was in need of full-time care, we were delighted and relieved that she was able to move to the Royal Star and Garter, High Wycombe. The care and love she received was consistently outstanding and overwhelming. Her room felt like a great hotel, was well equipped
but nevertheless remained very personal with her own possessions very much in evidence. The corridors and communal spaces are very light and cheerful with aspects over the gardens. In the dementia unit, there were many visual stimulations to trigger memories and the staff are wonderful and patient in their conversations with the residents to bring back all those memories. Mum’s needs were always attended to with respect, dignity, cheerfulness and patience. Sadly we lost mum at the end of 2021 but again we were hugely relieved that the Rose Star and Garter were able to provide outstanding end of life care and we were left speechless at the level of love and care that she received at that time.

My father, a resident of over two years, is extremely happy and contented due to the excellent staff who are so kind and hardworking. He takes full advantage of the activities on offer which he enjoys, photos of which I can access on Family Connections. I have nothing but praise for the staff and the
way The Royal Star and Garter is run.

My mother moved to Royal Star and Garter from another local Care Home in the area mid December 2021. I have not regretted the move and find everything about the Royal Star and Garter to be first class. My mother is now back to how she was before she entered the previous care home and I am so thankful
to the staff at RS&G for everything they have done for her. The staff are so caring and always take the time to speak and update me on my mum. My only regret is not choosing the Royal Star & Garter in the first place and having to watch my mother suffer in a care home that was not suitable for her needs.

My dad moved to Royal Star and Garter in High Wycombe as he needed nursing care on discharge from hospital. His stay was only short-lived as he was in his final few weeks of life, and he sadly passed away five weeks later in November 2021.
Dad was not mobile, but the staff were able to move him around
the spacious room from bed or chair to bathroom with the ceiling hoists. He was able to have his electric reclining chair by the window, looking out over the garden, and we put pictures and photos up for him.

The staff were very friendly and caring, nothing was too much trouble, and Dad felt very happy and lucky to be there.

My family and I are very grateful that Dad was able to spend his final weeks being cared for by such lovely, warm, friendly, caring people who treated him with dignity and respect, and they are all truly amazing.

I would have no hesitation in recommending Royal Star and Garter, High Wycombe to anyone.

The Royal Star and Garter in High Wycombe have been great at looking after my Grandfather. He became a resident during the Pandemic which could have made the process more stressful but the team did a great job at making us feel at ease and keeping us up to date on changes. The carers and staff are
all very friendly and always have a smile on their face.

Mum was welcomed into the home in an instant. She was included as we all were and still are. The staff always have a smile on their faces and are happy to welcome us in when we visit. Mum is very well cared for, she’s clean, fed and has actually put a little weight back on.
I couldn’t be happier.

The Star & Garter Homes have a great reputation and, in my experience, it is very well-earned.
The High Wycombe Home is bright and modern, comfortable and relaxing.
My Father moved to the Wycombe Home after a stay in hospital, and the contrast could not have been more marked.
In hospital, he was
not eating and was simply wasting away. In the comfort of the Home, with plenty of staff to monitor him, he has made a good recovery, gradually recovering his strength and settling nicely into a comfortable routine.
Now he has his strength back, he is also able to enjoy a more active life and is happy in the thought that he can remain well-looked after for the foreseeable future.
All the staff are professional, warm and caring - after the isolation of living alone during Covid, I think he really appreciates that human contact, as much as anything else.
I thoroughly recommend the Star & Garter.

We were delighted to discover that my father's Naval service back in the 1950s meant that my mother could become a resident at this truly wonderful establishment. It feels like a good quality hotel in many ways, but with superbly attentive, polite and cheerful staff on hand at all times. Despite Covid,
the whole process of settling Mum in has been made as easy and painless as possible, and we are truly grateful. Cannot recommend highly enough!

My mother moved into the home 2 years ago. She was transferred there directly from hospital with a life expectancy measured by the NHS medical team as a few months. She improved very rapidly and is happily there 2 years later!
To demonstrate how satisfied we are with our overall experience and the
care given to my mother… we have since moved my father-in-law here and my aunt into a sister Star and Garter home.

Current Review Score: 10.0 (9.959)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 10 (9.959) out of 10 for Royal Star & Garter - High Wycombe is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  1. The Average Rating is 5.0 out of 5 from 29 Reviews in the last 24 months.
  2. The score for the number of positive Reviews is 5.0 out of 5 from 29 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  1. 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months. The Average Rating of 4.959 for Royal Star & Garter - High Wycombe is calculated as follows: ( (330 Excellents x 5) + (14 Goods x 4) ) ÷ 344 Ratings = 4.959
  2. 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5'). The 5 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Royal Star & Garter - High Wycombe is based on 29 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    1. 4 points are available for the first 20 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews, 0.05 Points for the next five Positive Reviews, and finally 0.025 Points for the next ten Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.050, 7th = 0.050, 8th = 0.050, 9th = 0.050, 10th = 0.050, 11th = 0.025, 12th = 0.025, 13th = 0.025, 14th = 0.025, 15th = 0.025, 16th = 0.025, 17th = 0.025, 18th = 0.025, 19th = 0.025, 20th = 0.025) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 = 4
    2. 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 74 registered maximum number of service users is 14.8, which has been reached with 29 Positive reviews. Points = 1
  3. When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.
  4. If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.

I have worked for the charity since 2009, becoming High Wycombe’s Home Manager in late 2020.

The things I love the most about my job are being able to create lovely moments and memories with the residents and being able to laugh and cry with them, comfort and reassure each other when we feel sad, and just being there as a friend and family. I also love that we are one family, there is no ‘them and us’.
