Overall Experience
The Star & Garter Homes have a great reputation and, in my experience, it is very well-earned.
The High Wycombe Home is bright and modern, comfortable and relaxing.
My Father moved to the Wycombe Home after a stay in hospital, and the contrast could not have been more marked.
In hospital, he was not eating and was simply wasting away. In the comfort of the Home, with plenty of staff to monitor him, he has made a good recovery, gradually recovering his strength and settling nicely into a comfortable routine.
Now he has his strength back, he is also able to enjoy a more active life and is happy in the thought that he can remain well-looked after for the foreseeable future.
All the staff are professional, warm and caring - after the isolation of living alone during Covid, I think he really appreciates that human contact, as much as anything else.

I thoroughly recommend the Star & Garter.

This is a wonderful home with a very caring and attentive staff. My mum was made to feel very welcome, like family, which helped her settle in quickly. I can’t recommend the Royal Star and Garter highly enough.

We were delighted to discover that my father's Naval service back in the 1950s meant that my mother could become a resident at this truly wonderful establishment. It feels like a good quality hotel in many ways, but with superbly attentive, polite and cheerful staff on hand at all times. Despite Covid, the whole process of settling Mum in has been made as easy and painless as possible, and we are truly grateful. Cannot recommend highly enough!

My mother moved into the home 2 years ago. She was transferred there directly from hospital with a life expectancy measured by the NHS medical team as a few months. She improved very rapidly and is happily there 2 years later!

To demonstrate how satisfied we are with our overall experience and the care given to my mother… we have since moved my father-in-law here and my aunt into a sister Star and Garter home.

From the very first day, my friends joined the Royal Star & Garter the attention, care and love they have received has been simply exemplary. All of the staff have a very clear understanding of both of their different health and emotional needs and constantly respond to their individual requirements to vastly improve their quality of life. They are both happier, healthier and much more fulfilled than prior to their residence with you.
The excellent response to and control of the Covid crisis is further clear evidence of the extremely high quality of staff and the standards of the whole organisation.
Our personal experience of the willing support and guidance we have received from management, nursing and care staff alike has been superb in a very difficult situation. Their ongoing communications and ready availability really makes a tremendous difference.

The quality of the environment and resources is terrific and we really can't think how it could be better.

My father moved to the Royal Star & Garter earlier this year after a period of living with me and at a difficult time due to the restrictions caused by the pandemic. He has vascular dementia and I was concerned that the move would be very confusing for him. I need not have worried! The staff have been exemplary in helping him settle in and he now speaks of it as being his new home. There is a weekly programme of activities that give him lots of variety and choice - he's especially keen on the scenic tours in the home's minibus and enjoys playing pool with other residents. He tells me the food is excellent and I can see from his appearance that he's well cared for. I've also found communication with the staff excellent, which is very reassuring. I'd be very happy to recommend this care home to anyone seeking similar care.

It was a difficult decision as a family to entrust the care of our mother to a care home. However, from the moment that we first visited the home and organised a trial stay for our mother, it became very evident that the Star & Garter team were committed to providing a friendly, professional and high level of care for all their residents. Our mother who suffers from Vascular Dementia has benefited from 24-hour care and has consequently become less anxious, gained weight and is sleeping better. She is less lonely and enjoys all the many varied activities available to residents. Through the pandemic, we have been so impressed by the team's hard work, dedication and good humour, and despite the challenges of visiting through this period, we have always been consulted with, kept in the loop and every effort has been made to cater for each resident/family's needs. When visiting we enjoy the fantastic environment, the community spirit where we are always welcomed and able to join in!

Was left in a difficult situation as I had to arrange care for an uncle I hadn't seen for a number of years, who lived 100 miles away.

Royal Star & Garter really helped me in a friendly and efficient manner. It was a difficult month or so, but they really enabled my uncle's move to care to be as seamless as possible. Thank you.

The staff at the Royal Star & Garter are absolutely wonderful and very caring towards my father. I would go so far as to say that they have saved his life after having transferred him here from another care home. They are always well staffed, offer lots of activities and the food is apparently delicious. The accommodation is second to none and the gardens are lovely. What more can I say about this wonderful place!

Truly an excellent home. The staff are wonderful and my dad is finally in a place he doesn’t want to escape from. He has been living there for nearly a year now and has been so much happier than his previous residence. 5 stars.

Every time that my wife and myself come to visit our uncle we have always been given first-class service, friendly and informative and very human. Our uncle can be a fussy person but since being here he has not complained once and when we telephone on the odd occasion to talk to him the staff are very polite and helpful.
When we visit the areas are spotlessly clean and the home is fantastic in keeping us up to date with all the activities both with pictures and with emails.

A first-class home thank you.

The first time we came to view this care home, we knew it was perfect for my father. The measure in how fabulous this place is, is how happy and settled my father was from the minute he moved in. We all felt welcomed into this special family. Everything is geared towards the individual's needs. I would have absolutely no problem highly recommending this home.

My mother lived here for four months; where there are unbelievably high standards of care with the utmost thought given to every detail.

A well designed, very comfortable building with dedicated staff who are excellently trained and chosen with a natural ability to look after residents in a most personal and attentive way.

Patience, involvement in activities, encouragement and a real interest in the residents makes life so much better for them and is a joy to witness.

End of life care was superb and meticulously arranged which made the death of my mother seamlessly easier.

My sincerest gratitude goes to the whole wonderful organisation.

Please could a system be set up whereby when a relative puts a request in for lunch for the next day, a message is put in the residents handover notes so that the carers get the resident up and dressed, breakfasted and ready in time to greet the guest and is able to eat lunch with them i.e not given a large breakfast late in the morning when lunch is at 1pm. Not left to sit around/in bed in pyjamas when not ill so keeps the guest waiting, also the resident misses out on the morning activities if in own room half the morning.

Thank you.

My husband went into the Royal Star & Garter on the 21st of May 2019. He fell on the 24th May fracturing his hip and shoulder. He had successful surgery on his hip in Stoke Manderville. He had two further falls one in June and one on the 29th August 2019 resulting in his death on the 29th August.

It has been a traumatic time for all the family. There was an inquest on the 4th of December. I was very impressed by the nurses and carers their kindness, patience and care the facilities and the home itself.
