Royal Star & Garter offers compassionate, loving care to veterans and their partners living with disability or dementia.

The High Wycombe home opened in April 2019 and has been exclusively designed for the comfort and well-being of residents.

Specialist nursing and dementia care are offered in a relaxed, homely environment. Residents can enjoy the many activities in the spacious lounges, share the day with friends in the cafe-bar, or enjoy quiet time in the library or landscaped gardens.

With over 50 activities and outings every week, there is always something fun to do.

The in-house physiotherapy team offers regular physiotherapy sessions in a fully equipped studio.

Each resident has a large, en-suite bed-sitting room.

The care team works hard to ensure that life for residents in the High Wycombe home is comfortable, stimulating and fulfilling. Residents are supported to live a full and enjoyable life.

The staff at The Royal Star and Garter always go above and beyond when caring for residents. My father is living with Dementia and has been living at the home for almost two years now. The staff are kind, patient, attentive and supportive. To celebrate his birthday earlier this month, they organised
a balloon, prepared a cake and invited other residents from around the home to join the celebration with us. This made the day extremely special for my sister and I, as well as my father. What a wonderful team.

You always leave uplifted. From walking through the door into a smart contemporary reception hall, which is more posh hotel than care home, you are greeted by happy caring people whether they are staff, residents or family members visiting. Everyone cares, and you will end up caring about everyone too
after a very short time. It is truly a family atmosphere. The staff are highly professional. Everyone is respected and understood. The minds in that building are or were phenomenal, and everyone had a fascinating life. This ethos is carried through.

This is an extraordinary place, where the welcome is apparent from the moment I walked in the door. I was in for respite to give my wife a break and I was able to tell her that she could stop worrying instantly.
The home is magnificently equipped and from my limited medical experience, I couldn’t help
but notice how swift and accurate the nursing support was.
The food is excellent, both catering and care staff go out of their way to make everybody very welcome and show great patience with those who find it difficult to eat. The well-being coordinators really went out of their way to provide a varied programme, which is delivered with the best possible humour and encouragement. The open-door policy clearly pays off as the home always seems to have fresh visiting faces, from which I certainly felt unconfined.
A really nice place for an old person to live.

My father, who is now 91, has been a resident at The Royal Star And Garter High Wycombe since November 2020, when we moved him from another home in order to get specialist Dementia care. He is very content and settled here and as a family, we are delighted with the care, attention, expertise and friendliness
of all the staff. We often have lunch with him - after a game of Scrabble which he is still very able to play; beating me more often than I would like - and I have to say the food is very good and is a highlight for my father who is constantly checking his watch to make sure our game is not over-running! I like to have lunch with him on Fridays to get the benefit of the fantastic fish and chips. The home is modern, clean and spacious and the staff are like friends - we could ask for nothing more.

My husband has been a resident at the Royal Star and Garter for 3 years this coming July. I researched various care homes in Berkshire where I live. However, I did not feel confident in any of those that I looked at. That was until I heard from a friend about the Royal Star and Garter in Buckinghamshire.
The care given to my husband goes above and beyond my expectations. The staff are so very kind, especially when life becomes challenging, which from time to time has been the case. I can only say that because my husband was in the Army, this meant he qualified for a place in this care home. There are many activities at the home. However, sadly my husband no longer wants to take part. The staff not only look after my husband, they also look after me. Royal Star and Garter have also taught me about the 'Butterfly' method of caring for someone with Dementia. So I thank them profusely for all that they do.

My dad has been at the Royal Star and Garter for a week and I can't fault any of the staff, always so very helpful.
You are made to feel like part of the family.
The meals are always good and I like that I can stay and have a meal with my dad at a small cost. I would recommend the Royal Star and Garter

My mother-in-law receives the best of care at Royal Star & Garter - High Wycombe.
She is always relaxed and happy as well as clean, tidy and well turned out. I have no concerns about her physical and mental care. I know I would be informed immediately of any problems.
The residence is full of stimulating
decor and is always clean and tidy. The staff are always cheerful and caring.
I feel we are lucky to have access to such a facility for her.

Since my father moved into the Royal Star & Garter in High Wycombe, he has received outstanding care and, as a result, is happier, more chatty and far healthier than I have seen him in years. Everything, from the nursing and physiotherapy through to the social events and catering, are excellent. My

From the moment that my sister-in-law entered Royal Star & Garter in High Wycombe, my husband and I knew that we had picked absolutely the best possible care for her. She has been residing there for almost a year now and she settled very quickly without any problems. This was due to the fact that all
her needs were, and are, met with the utmost care. She really feels safe and loved. All the staff and carers are so helpful and nothing is too much trouble. Her room is so spacious and comfortable and she has a lovely view from her bedroom window. Whenever we visit, we can see the standard of care that she is receiving as she looks so clean and her clothes are spotless. We can see that the laundry is first-class as well. The communication from the home to us is excellent, as we are kept very much informed about everything that is happening, both now and in the future. It is such a relief, when we leave her, to know that she is receiving such dedicated care.

Dad was a resident for over three years. The care provided was quite exceptional. Whilst his mobility was greatly reduced and the worry of falls was always present, the loving and attentive staff always made it possible for Dad to live life as fully as possible. He often praised the efforts that staff
would go to in providing entertainment, organising trips and encouraging regular exercises. When we spoke he would relive his day with such joy and enthusiasm, whether it was the entertainment or trips outside, the staff would always try and come up with more to do. Whilst Covid presented many restrictions, in particular, home visits. I was so impressed with the efforts taken by staff and the management in keeping us fully updated on Dad's wellbeing.
As a family we were always given the warmest of greetings and felt very much included in Dad's life; it felt like we belonged to one big family, and I shall miss them all.

My mother has been a resident since January 2022 and as a family, we have been delighted with the level of care she has received. My father was allowed to visit on a daily basis, have meals with my mother and attend the various forms of activities and entertainment with her. The staff are extremely
caring and attentive, going out of their way to get to know my mother and encourage her to participate in activities and to settle into the home. The rooms are large, modern and homely and the food is excellent, with a varied choice always available. When my father became ill, Royal Star & Garter - High Wycombe was an obvious choice for his end-of-life care and the staff treated him with the utmost kindness and dignity throughout, as well as providing constant support for the family. The Royal Star & Garter is in the top 20% of best care homes in southern England. My wife is in the best place I considered and I couldn't do better. It is a military charity and as such, I was admitted. It gives excellent dementia nursing and attention from caring nurses/carers. The leisure and eating
facilities are very good. Excellent management. I make a visit three times a week, so feel competent to give an opinion. The costs seem very fair and not over-expensive from local studies made. I have personally had respite attention from their nursing side, and when needed I would apply for full-time residence.

My mother has now been at the Royal Star & Garter for four months and we are delighted with the care she receives. She has mid to late-stage Alzheimer's and severe mobility issues. We struggled to provide care for her at home for some time before making the decision with some trepidation that she must
enter a home. After visiting several homes we decided on the
Royal Star & Garter and it really has lived up to our hopes and expectations.
Staff are unfailingly kind and patient with my mother and, as well as providing all the essential elements of care to a first-class standard, they go above and beyond in so many small ways to ensure that her experience is a positive one. One example: With her dementia, my mother becomes easily distressed, especially upon awakening from a nap when she is especially disorientated. So we will often find a member of staff sitting by her side as she snoozes, ready to reassure her that all is well and that she is safe and secure when she awakes. Excellent home. Excellent staff. Excellent care.

My father moved in at the beginning of June. The staff were very friendly and were always looking for ways to make him more comfortable. He didn't really get any physio though and didn't gain his ability to walk. The food was good and tailored to his needs. The room was smart and had all the facilities
needed especially the hoist, which proved very useful. Unfortunately, he was only at the home until August, when he went into the hospital and didn't return to the care home. There are daily activities for the residents if they are fit and able to join in.

I have worked for the charity since 2009, becoming High Wycombe’s Home Manager in late 2020.


The things I love the most about my job are being able to create lovely moments and memories with the residents and being able to laugh and cry with them, comfort and reassure each other when we feel sad, and just being there as a friend and family. I also love that we are one family, there is no ‘them and us’.
