My mum came to Chandler Court for 3 weeks respite care. She was not keen to go initially, but settled quickly, and was super impressed by how kind and helpful the staff were. The communication with us was good and I would recommend it to anyone looking for respite care for a relative.

In Chandler Court they have a wish list, my mum made a wish to Ski and on the 7th January 2025, Chandler Court made that wish happen. My mum looked so happy. It was her life long wish and Care UK made it happen. I can't thank everyone involved enough. Both my parents are in Chandler Court and I can't
thank all the staff enough for their care and compassion to both mum and dad. You made lovely memories not just for mum but for all our family to remember.

My husband was failed by this home during respite in September. When he returned home after 10 days his hygiene had been so poor he had a dreadful skin rash requiring medical intervention and treatment for 5 days to resolve. Despite the Homes own records stating his compliance and minimal input needed
he was only showered twice during 10 days. He only took part in activities twice and did not see fresh air for the whole time. After an investigation and input from the Safeguarding team the Home agreed that the care had fallen short of what was promised. The dementia wing is fairly new and needs a lot more knowledge and understanding of dementia in order to support those relying on them. There seemed to be an over reliance on agency staff resulting in poor communication - my husband was repeatedly referred to by the wrong name which I was told was due to agency staff. This is on the surface a beautiful home but in my opinion falls short of providing good quality dementia care.
Reply from Samantha Debenham, Reviews Team at Chandler CourtThank you for taking the time to leave feedback for Chandler Court. I am sorry to read you feel your husband was failed during his respite stay in September. At Care UK, we hold ourselves to high standards and I am sorry we did not meet these expectations. I understand your concerns and complaint has been through our formal complaint process. I would like to assure we will always reflect upon any complaint and lessons have been learnt and training has been implemented. We understand the importance of the activities and the lifestyle of our residents, and I am sorry this did not happen. Actions have been put in place to ensure this improves. I would like to thank you once again for taking the time to leave feedback. Best wishes.

My wife's move into care was processed with dignity and consideration. It has been a very difficult transition for my wife, her condition not helping her emotional state. All staff involved have been extremely kind, understanding and proactive in sourcing workable and effective solutions to provide
comfort and reassurance. Although it has taken some time for her to settle the patience of the caregivers has been outstanding.
Communication and feedback have been first-rate. The team involved with my wife's care have always made time to talk to me, answer questions and happy to discuss future steps and involve me in care planning. They have also offered me support acknowledging the issues associated with coming to terms with placing a partner in care.
No one wants to be in this position. But I am secure in the knowledge that my wife is safe, cared for, and treated with dignity.

We had to move my mother from her previous care home as her needs changed. At such a difficult time, I came across Chandler Court when looking for somewhere to move mum to. From my initial telephone enquiry and visit, to today, I have been immensely impressed by the professional, compassionate way I
(and more importantly my mum) have been treated. The staff are amazing. Mum loves all of the activities, especially any with dancing, and popping to the coffee shop when family and friends visit her. The move to Chandler Court has been positive for mum and for me. Thank you.

The whole process of pre-admission was very well arranged and my wife's admission assessment was very sensitively handled.
Once my wife was accepted for a place, the exchanges of information were very clear and sensitively dealt with.
We had the chance to see my wives proposed room and asked what
we would like to see in the way of pictures etc. We brought clothes etc prior to admission to make the day of admission easier for us all. Everything that was promised was done perfectly. The day of admission could not have gone any better and thanks to the efforts of your team, my wive seems to be settling very well. We are extremely pleased with everything so far at Chandler Court. Thank you all so much.

When my uncle needed to move into a care home, I wanted that care home to be Chandler Court and - what can I say - they have not disappointed. The staff have been consistently kind, supportive and helpful and have ensured that my uncle settles into his new home; communication from the team has been
great, including our first Resident of the Day call. The food at the home is of a consistently high standard and alternatives are always available at request. Thanks to all the team for making a difficult time for the family that much easier to navigate.

My three week respite was catered for very well. The staff were very helpful and nothing was too much trouble to them. The activities were excellent, but you were not pushed into anything you did not want to participate in. Overall, a good standard was achieved, even my visitors were very impressed
with the care home.

My husband went to Chandler Court for 2 weeks of respite he could not have been treated, cared for, and welcomed more had he been the King. All staff were absolutely fantastic in making his stay so welcoming, attending to his wants, talking and listening to him We would both recommend anyone wanting
permanent or respite care go there, we could not fault the service, professional yet still caring, helpful and friendly (staff always smiling and willing to do anything for you and your family). Gold star Chandler Court's superb on every count.

I enjoyed my respite stay. The coffee shop was a great asset in meeting friends and family. Entertainment is good - particularly quizzes. The staff took every care nothing was too much trouble. Messages were passed on. The dining room is very attractive, and meals are always available. Perhaps more
salads could be on the menu! All around an excellent place to stay. I cannot find anything negative to say!

From the moment I visited Chandler Court, the staff made me feel welcome. They were kind, friendly, understanding, open, and honest about what they were able to offer in the way of care for my Nan. The rooms are beautiful, everything is always spotless. The home never smells like a hospital or care
home, it looks and smells like a high-quality hotel. The food options are always good, healthy, and well-cooked. The staff always accommodates my Nan's fussy nature. All the staff take time to chat, provide updates, and take the time to get to know the residents. Nan has been very happy here, which I never imagined as she has always been fiercely independent and wanted to stay at home. Thank you Chandler Court.

What went well:
- On the whole, Chandler Court provides a reasonably good service. Facilities are excellent, food is great and staff make a real effort to be friendly with mum.
- Chandler Court has a welcoming atmosphere to visitors and I feel that any feedback I give is received positively.
-
There are plenty of varied activities laid on for residents.
Even better if:
- As my mother has extremely limited movement, it is imperative that things are left within reach, such as magazines, books, cuddly toys, etc. There have been some occasions when I've arrived to find Mum unable to reach anything.
- There have been some staff who have left recently. In particular, nursing staff. One member of staff was very obviously frustrated. Whilst I don't know the details, I find myself wondering what was at the heart of their apparent low morale.
- Mum has false teeth and she is unable to clean them herself. Could they be cleaned more regularly, please?
Thank you.

For our family, this period of respite was greatly appreciated and much needed.
On arrival, our mum's distress and anger at being left in a home soon settled following the kind words of the permanent residents. In Mum's world of dementia, she is distorted while the family battles with the reality
of day-to-day challenges.
Chandler Court gave us the peace of mind and knowledge she would be safe during her respite. Thank you.

My father has resided at Chandler Court since July 2022. He is very well cared for. He is given respect and dignity in all aspects of his life by all staff as he is living with Alzheimers disease. He has an excellent quality of life with opportunity to join in with a huge variety of activities. I am
so happy with how staff care for him and how much care they give to us as a family. My mind is at ease now that he lives at Chandler Court as we have experienced poor care from a previous care home! My dad's life is wonderful at Chandler Court. It's perfect for him!

Current Review Score: 9.8 (9.793)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 9.8 (9.793) out of 10 for Chandler Court is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  1. The Average Rating is 4.8 out of 5 from 38 Reviews in the last 24 months.
  2. The score for the number of positive Reviews is 5.0 out of 5 from 36 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  1. 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months. The Average Rating of 4.793 for Chandler Court is calculated as follows: ( (378 Excellents x 5) + (56 Goods x 4) + (9 Satisfactorys x 3) + (5 Poors x 2) + (1 Very Poors x 1) ) ÷ 449 Ratings = 4.793
  2. 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5'). The 5 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Chandler Court is based on 36 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    1. 4 points are available for the first 20 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews, 0.05 Points for the next five Positive Reviews, and finally 0.025 Points for the next ten Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.050, 7th = 0.050, 8th = 0.050, 9th = 0.050, 10th = 0.050, 11th = 0.025, 12th = 0.025, 13th = 0.025, 14th = 0.025, 15th = 0.025, 16th = 0.025, 17th = 0.025, 18th = 0.025, 19th = 0.025, 20th = 0.025) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 = 4
    2. 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 81 registered maximum number of service users is 16.2, which has been reached with 36 Positive reviews. Points = 1
  3. When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.
  4. If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.
