My mother has been in nursing care for approximately six months since care at home became impractical and detrimental to her health. The first four weeks were difficult for her but once she got used to her surroundings, new routine and new carers she has felt safe, clean and content. She is always well-fed
and cared for in what is the latter part of her life.

My father-in-law came to stay over the Christmas period for three weeks. He was greeted by the staff and shown to his room. The lovely personal touch of a carrier bag containing a welcome card some packets of sweets and a nice box of biscuits was given to him.
The room was light and spacious with his
own TV and large en-suite. What a caring and friendly place Chandler Court is. Every member of staff have been attentive and friendly. The whole place is beautifully decorated and kept spotlessly clean. The daily activities are really well thought out and varied.
My father-in-law really enjoyed the meals. Plenty of choices were on offer each day. Such a relaxed and warm atmosphere about this place made his stay complete.
Thanks to all the staff and management at Chandler Court.

In my aunt's words (dementia sufferer) It is alright here. The food is alright. In my opinion, as her niece, she is well cared for. There are activities available if she wants them. She sits in the lounge in her wheelchair.

My father had respite here for 11 weeks which gave him time to recoup from looking after his partner. Although he did not need care as such, all the staff were supportive if he needed any help, even if it was just a chat.

Dad hesitantly came to Chandler court to recuperate following a long stay in hospital, and to give him the opportunity to increase his mobility. The staff were all very welcoming and gave Dad the initial encouragement he needed to walk slightly longer distances and within a few days he was walking the
full length of the building several times a day. Within a very short time, Dad was enjoying the company of both other service users and the staff and also enjoyed taking part in many of the activities. Dad has expressed that he would be more than happy to return to Chandler court in the future and frequently talks about his respite stay there.

My father has been a resident at Chandler Court for a number of years. There is always a warm, friendly welcome from the reception staff when visiting. The carers are compassionate, kind and treat my father as an individual. They understand his needs, his likes and dislikes and cannot do enough for
him. The kitchen staff are always vigilant to ensure each resident is served the food they like, eggs royale is a particular favourite! The housekeeping staff are also always friendly and the home is always fresh and clean. The activity team offer varied activities and the whole staff at Chandler all work together to make it a happy place, where my father is really cared for.

Mum has been at Chandler Court since the end of April 2022. Despite her occasional ups and downs she seems to be thriving at the home and gets involved with most activities. There is a real mix of residents in the home but I think Mum gets on with all the carers, especially as she is one of the easier
ones to talk with. I feel happy enough with her level of care. I am always informed about any changes in Mum's health or medication. The staff are friendly when I visit. I think the range of activities is generally quite good, with a good balance of mental and physical stimulation. I would like to see more activities outside the home. I was a bit disappointed when Mum said she might be going to West Midlands Safari Park but the trip never materialised. Chandler Court needs to improve its transport facilities, by either investing in a larger vehicle or hiring one when required, so more residents can get out on trips. I think the out-of-hours access needs to be improved too.
Reply from Martha Piper, Reviews Team at Chandler CourtDear Chris, we are pleased to hear that you feel your mother is thriving at Chandler Court. Our dedicated care team are committed to keeping families involved in their loved one’s care, and our lifestyle team work hard to ensure there’s always a range of meaningful activities on offer. Occasionally, where external trips are planned, these may need to be cancelled/postponed for reasons outside of our influence. We are aware that on this occasion, the resident who requested this trip was not well enough to endure the long journey. Instead, we offered residents a trip to the local farm to accommodate everybody who wanted to attend. We now have a system in place whereby team members cover front door access for visitors which we hope will resolve the difficulty in accessing the home out of hours. During evening mealtimes, when our team are assisting residents in eating, it is not always achievable to answer the door immediately, therefore there may be a short wait.

I have been at Chandler Court for two and a half years. In that time I have seen bad times and good but the staff have always been so helpful, kind and professional. I find I'm treated with love and respect at all times. Same with mealtimes, I might not like what's on offer but if I let them know in
time they will prepare a meal I do like with no trouble or fuss. I am dependent on carers for my personal care and at times we have a nice friendly chat. I am very happy with my lot here.

My wife, in the final weeks of her life, was professionally and compassionately cared for. On the one occasion Care was below the normal high standards- due to 3 of the 4 care assistants being agency staff- the management responded by bringing in an extra nurse and a permanent assistant coming in early
to help out.
This showed that the management were responsive to problems that arose and added to my high opinion of Chandler Court.
It’s how people respond when there are problems that shows how professional and responsible they are.
I have recommended Chandler Court to others.

My father had been a resident at Chandler Court Care Home since March 2021. This had become necessary due to suffering from dementia and poor mobility following a fall in his own home. From first contacting a member of staff at Chandler Court to my father's passing in December 2022, the staff were attentive
and sympathetic to his changing needs. When visiting my father staff were always very welcoming and there were always key staff that would take time to talk about how he had been. With constant changes in his capacity, no two visits would be the same. He was always shown dignity and respect, even though on occasion he could be difficult to manage. On occasion due to changes in my father's health, I had the need to talk with the care home manager. She was always supportive and took time to ensure my father's needs were met and I felt assured and had peace of mind he was in a safe and caring environment.

My dad was recently moved to Chandler Court for palliative care. My dad and our family were impressed by the compassionate care and attention given to my dad and family members during this difficult time by all members of the team. Chandler Court is a happy place. I observed lots of activities for the
residents, and the food was of a high standard. The care was individualised and professional. We were involved in his care, and any concerns were addressed quickly. I would recommend Chandler's Court to anyone and thank the lovely caring team for all they did for us.

My godmother decided (after much deliberation) to have two weeks respite at Chandler Court Care Home, liked it so much she decided to stay permanently after being there three days. The management team replied to my emails promptly when the admin side of her stay needed completing.
There are two negatives
according to my godmother: 1. The food isn't the best (but this may be more related to her preferences not being on the menu). 2. She requires her medication at very specific times and has often been told that she can't have it as too early. This has hopefully now been rectified.
All in all, I am delighted that my godmother is now in a safe environment and has company every day.
Reply from Samantha Debenham, Personal Assistant at Chandler CourtWe are pleased to hear your godmother enjoyed her respite stay at Chandler Court and wanted to stay with us. We’re all pleased to hear you are happy with the communication you’ve received from the team here. Our kitchen team work closely with residents to understand meal preferences and adapt the menu wherever possible to ensure it suits dietary needs, preferences and offers choice for all residents. We will continue to ensure your godmother’s needs and preferences are catered for. Our team follow instructions as directed by the GP or other prescriber. However, the nursing teams ensure they liaise with residents, so preferences are considered regarding when they take their medication.

After her partner became too unwell to continue looking after her my mother needed extra care. She did accept that she couldn't look after herself but, like many people, she was reluctant to enter a care home.
When we took my mother to see Chandler Court Care Home, the customer relations manager was
really kind and patient with her although she declined to engage.
On the day we took Mum to stay she agreed that her room was lovely and clean and all seemed well until I came to leave. Mum became really upset. The manager came to help me - she was so kind and reassuring and took the situation in hand. I'm sure she stayed beyond her hours of duty because she rang me later to tell me Mum had settled and was getting ready for bed. I was so grateful for that unexpected call!
Mum has now settled well and as each member of staff leaves her room she inevitably tells me "she's lovely". So thank you and well done to all at Chandler.

My aunt stayed at Chandler Court Care Home for two weeks during August 2022 on a respite care basis. My aunt did not want to stay but it was necessary to provide my parents with a break from carer duties. Consequently, delivering my aunt to the home was a very challenging process, helped greatly by
the excellent staff at Chandler Court. My aunt went on to settle well and within a few days was enjoying the attention she was receiving and benefiting from the activities provided. Two weeks later, I arrived to collect my aunt who by this time did not want to leave. However, the time for permanent residential care had not yet arrived for my aunt but, as a family, we knew it was not far off and to have found such a fantastic home where my aunt would return willingly when the time came was such a relief. During September 2022 the time did arrive and my aunt was moved back to Chandler Court. The move back from hospital could not have been managed better. Many thanks to all at Chandler Court for their patience and care.

We were looking for a first-time experience of two weeks respite care for my aunt who has dementia. (July 2022). Chandler Court Care Home staff were very helpful, informative and professional during the arrangements before my aunt arrived and during her stay kept in good contact with us about her experience
including providing photographs of her taking part in activities.
My aunt was very apprehensive about staying at Chandler Court but quickly settled and by the end of the two weeks she was upset about leaving and would have stayed longer. She talks extremely positively about her time there saying she 'loved it' and she would happily go again. She definitely did a lot more during her stay than in her normal life and the knock-on effect of this is that she has been more willing to try new activities at home - she is now attending a day centre one day a week which before Chandler Court we couldn't get her to agree to.
Thanks to the customer relations manager, in particular, who was our link person and was extremely helpful.

Chandler Court Care Home is beyond all my care home expectations and I couldn’t be happier that my grandad is there.
The home itself is decorated so well. Very homely and doesn’t feel commercial or hospital-like.
The staff are incredible - every single person we have come across has been friendly
and really knowledgable. It makes me feel like my grandad is in safe hands. When reading his care notes I can see he’s checked on every hour without fail and staff ensure he is washed, dressed smart, hydrated and happy!
The food looks fantastic! The dining room is again set up to be very homely. The menu is on display for residents to read daily and there’s always a wonderful variety. On the dementia ward example plates are made to give residents a choice without them having to read.
There are so many activities that my grandad is a part of and the staff are so good at encouraging him to get involved.
We couldn’t be more pleased as a family!

Current Review Score: 9.8 (9.793)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 9.8 (9.793) out of 10 for Chandler Court is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  1. The Average Rating is 4.8 out of 5 from 38 Reviews in the last 24 months.
  2. The score for the number of positive Reviews is 5.0 out of 5 from 36 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  1. 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months. The Average Rating of 4.793 for Chandler Court is calculated as follows: ( (378 Excellents x 5) + (56 Goods x 4) + (9 Satisfactorys x 3) + (5 Poors x 2) + (1 Very Poors x 1) ) ÷ 449 Ratings = 4.793
  2. 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5'). The 5 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Chandler Court is based on 36 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    1. 4 points are available for the first 20 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews, 0.05 Points for the next five Positive Reviews, and finally 0.025 Points for the next ten Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.050, 7th = 0.050, 8th = 0.050, 9th = 0.050, 10th = 0.050, 11th = 0.025, 12th = 0.025, 13th = 0.025, 14th = 0.025, 15th = 0.025, 16th = 0.025, 17th = 0.025, 18th = 0.025, 19th = 0.025, 20th = 0.025) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 = 4
    2. 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 81 registered maximum number of service users is 16.2, which has been reached with 36 Positive reviews.
