I came to Elton House directly from the hospital at the end of July 2022. In the beginning, I had nursing care which was very good. Gradually, nursing care was not needed, and I was able to look after myself. I was a very active person, and I tried to join in most of the activities, even helping in
the shop. This was a temporary stay as I was waiting for a particular care home. My stay was for four months, and during this time, the friendships with the residents and the care of all the staff from the bottom to the top were polite, caring, helpful and always polite.
Reply from Karen Fleming, CLM at Elton House Care Home - Avery CollectionThank you so much for your kind words. We do miss you and hope you have settled well into your new environment. Please feel free to come back for a visit or stay at any time; we could always do with your help in our shop.

Elton House is a beautiful and bright home where nothing is too much trouble. My mother-in-law moved in at the beginning of December and has quickly settled in. This is mainly thanks to the attentiveness and friendliness of all the staff. The care she has received so far has been excellent, and I can
honestly say that she is happier now than she has been for years!

My mother tells me that she feels contented living in Signature at Elton House.
All the staff are delightful. She feels well looked after.
Her only disappointment is the food. It's really hit-and-miss. Sometimes it is pleasant, but often it is not.

My husband came here after a very harrowing five weeks in hospital, having been very ill. One lovely lady arranged everything so that the "move-in" went smoothly. He has a lovely room with a balcony which we have enjoyed during the last few sunny weeks.
Elton House itself is quite stunning; the amount
of detail that has gone into making this a really comfortable and restful place is amazing.
The staff are all so nice and have been really helpful to my husband. The improvement in his health and mobility since leaving the hospital has been very pleasing - which goes to show what good care can do.
The staff member who is in charge of care has done an excellent job and seems genuinely interested in how my husband is doing, for which we are very grateful.
If you have to find a care home, I don't think you can do better than Elton House.
Reply from Karen Fleming, CLM at Elton House Care Home - Avery CollectionThank you for your kind words.
I am so pleased that you found the whole process of moving your husband into Elton House stress-free.
Our nurse care manager and the entire team are finding your husband an absolute pleasure to care for; we also love seeing you spend such quality time together in our lovely home.

Elton House is a really lovely home with a beautiful ambience. My mother is so happy here; she has found new friends and a new lease of life. Long gone are the dark, lonely days with no one to interact with. She also loves the choice of food in the restaurant and the range of activities on offer. Thanks
so much to the team for looking after her so well.

My mum stayed at Elton House for respite following hip surgery. We were so happy with the care and attention she received. The staff were really lovely, so friendly and happy - nothing was too much trouble. She enjoys her meals in the restaurant, flower arranging and even managed the cinema a couple
of evenings.

Absolutely awful. Begged my family to take me home one day after arriving. I came straight from 3 weeks in hospital following complex back surgery.
Beds not made daily, some staff unbelievably rude and unhelpful. Room/bathroom only cleaned once a week. Bed made once a week. Dirty but no one cared when
I complained. Often Unreasonable response time to pressing the call button.
The brochure states "room deep cleaned weekly". When I asked what about the rest of the week, after humming and having and being deliberately obtuse, they, the management finally admitted that nothing was cleaned or beds made the other six days. No hoovering or tidying. "Deep clean" meant hoovering. Felt unsafe and uncared for. The whole experience was very unsatisfactory and I told the manager that my mental health was severely affected. It was a scary experience. Often an unreasonable response time to pressing the call button. I could go on, but don't think it is necessary. This was my experience at Elton House, Watford.
Reply from Care Team, Signature at Elton House at Elton House Care Home - Avery CollectionThank you for taking the time to share your experience. The standard of care and service described in your review falls far short of the empathetic, caring relationships we seek to build with each of our residents and their loved ones. We are truly sorry that this was your experience. When you first shared your concerns around your experience at the home, the Elton House team worked with you to address these with the aim of reaching an amicable conclusion.
In addition to the home-level support outlined above, and at the time of writing, a member of our Senior Team is working with you directly to address your feedback and to provide you a resolution.
Please be assured we operate an open and honest culture, and that we value all comments we receive to ensure the care team can support each resident with tailored care, which reflects their specific needs and desires. We continue to offer the option to contact senior team members, outside of the home.

Elton House is a very well-run care home. The purpose-built facility makes everything much easier and more pleasant for residents. My father's apartment was spacious and well-designed. The staff are chosen to be caring, and the management is well organised and responsive. My father didn't really want
to be there, but he had as good a time as possible in the circumstances. I think it is the best care home in the area.

My mum has been at Elton for 6-months now, and with all the Covid challenges the staff has endured, they always made Mum and us feel wanted. Mum had an episode where she was admitted to the hospital twice in a month, and every staff member did their utmost to make sure Mum's care was paramount, as well
as keeping my sister and I informed as best as possible. The staff (this includes the initial contact with the liaison manager and her team) always make an exception to try and accommodate all of Mum's needs, and I have no doubt this is the best care home you can choose probably in the country if you want competent 1-2-1 care.

We are so happy that Mum has made Elton House her forever home, and it is our pleasure to be able to assist with Mums daily needs as well as being able to support you and the rest of the family when needed.
Your mum is an inspirational and wise lady.

Current Review Score: 9.8 (9.842)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 9.8 (9.842) out of 10 for Elton House Care Home - Avery Collection is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  1. The Average Rating is 4.8 out of 5 from 34 Reviews in the last 24 months.
  2. The score for the number of positive Reviews is 5.0 out of 5 from 34 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  1. 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months. The Average Rating of 4.842 for Elton House Care Home - Avery Collection is calculated as follows: ( (341 Excellents x 5) + (53 Goods x 4) + (5 Satisfactorys x 3) ) ÷ 399 Ratings = 4.842
  2. 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5'). The 5 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Elton House Care Home - Avery Collection is based on 34 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    1. 4 points are available for the first 20 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews, 0.05 Points for the next five Positive Reviews, and finally 0.025 Points for the next ten Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.050, 7th = 0.050, 8th = 0.050, 9th = 0.050, 10th = 0.050, 11th = 0.025, 12th = 0.025, 13th = 0.025, 14th = 0.025, 15th = 0.025, 16th = 0.025, 17th = 0.025, 18th = 0.025, 19th = 0.025, 20th = 0.025) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 = 4
    2. 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 95 registered maximum number of service users is 19, which has been reached with 34 Positive reviews. Points = 1
  3. When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.
  4. If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.

I have been in the care industry for over 5 years and I am the main contact for families who are looking for a Care Home. I love supporting people, showing prospective residents our stunning home and helping them make the best decision for their loved ones.

Thinking about moving a family member into a Care Home can be a confusing and disconcerting time. Deciding on when it is the right time to move is a big step, it can be daunting and an unsettling time for those involved. I am always available to have a conversation about individual care needs and answer any questions you may have.

Having been through a similar situation with a family member who lived with dementia, I can really understand and empathise with every step of the journey families are having to take. I am passionate about caring and helping people to live well as they grow old and recognise the huge benefits of being in a community filled with love and kindness.
