Lauder Lodge

Sadly they don't accept authority funding: have a lawyer read over the contract! Care UK was taken to task in England about this but haven't had their knuckles wrapped by the Scottish Authorities yet. They don't offer any more than basic care for dementia despite promises on the website and published info. Lots of lovely promises on admission to the home that never come to pass once money is handed over. Some staff are wonderful, others need consistent supervision by the floor managers: the same as any nursing home out there, but it looks pretty. It's a business and the management runs it like one. they will try to move your relative out of the home when their health declines, keep this in mind if you are wanting a lifelong place for them to live. After chatting to other relatives we are all having similar issues.

Our mum has resided in Lauder Lodge for some time now and is exceptionally well looked after. She loves her meals and lovely cakes too and there are activities she can take part in if she feels up to it. The staff are always very observant if mum is not feeling the best and the appropriate treatment is sought straight away.

From the moment I reached out to enquire about the possibility of a place communication was excellent. Lauder Lodge is a happy place to be, rooms are comfortable and clean and it feels like home not a hospital. From the assessment process to admission Mum was treated with respect, and focus was on her care and making her feel at home. All staff are lovely and really care about her. It's a lovely place to visit, feels just like popping around to her home. The facilities are excellent, the cafe, meals, hairdressing and activities, allow residents to have a full experience within the home. Nothing is a problem and regular check-ins make sure the resident continues to have appropriate care, both physically and mentally. Having to move a loved one somewhere when they need more care is emotionally and mentally difficult, Lauder has it down to a fine art, navigating the whole process with empathy and care, can't rate the team highly enough.

From the initial first contact enquiring about Lauder Lodge, to the first show round to the assessment then finally getting my gran moved in has been beyond my expectations. It was a super difficult time and all the staff have gone above and beyond to help reassure me and keep me involved on all things relevant to my gran. My one stand-out moment was when I was very upset the first full day as my gran had been unsettled understandably on the first night and a member of staff called me later on during her second night to reassure me she had settled in her room and was happy, to me that meant the world that she thought of me and took the time to update me. Can't thank the team enough for the last 4 weeks. We look forward to this new chapter of our family and to making happy memories at Lauder Lodge.

The minute I entered Lauder Lodge I knew it was the right place for my relative. The staff were welcoming, friendly and very helpful. All the carers, activities staff, cleaners and catering staff have been so friendly. My relative has been very well cared for during her stay and I have no hesitation in recommending Lauder Lodge for those seeking a safe home for their relative.

Having had to choose a care home for Mum, I couldn’t have found a better place for her to be. The staff are amazing, seeing to her every need and treat her and other residents like family. She has a lovely bedroom and ensuite which are kept very clean, the dining rooms and lounges are cosy just like home. The activities staff keep her busy with lots of interesting things to make her day pass and there are lovely outings by minibus for her to enjoy. The meals are cooked to a very high standard with lots of choice. The staff keep me informed of any health issues, and chat to us every time we visit about how Mum is doing. There is a lovely lounge where visitors can enjoy freshly baked cakes and coffee when visiting relatives. Also a well-kept garden for residents and families.

Lauder Lodge provides a warm and caring environment which made the transition from home to residential care easy for my relative in spite of the then Covid restrictions. The staff are kind, thoughtful and friendly and the atmosphere in the home is relaxed and unhurried. Everyone seems to know all the residents and their regular visitors. The facilities are excellent and well maintained and the coffee shop provides a degree of independence for residents and visitors which is enjoyed by us all.

Friendly, attentive staff made the move to Edinburgh very easy for my gran. Nice facilities and great views over Edinburgh and the Forth, this makes it very nice for my gran so she can see what’s going on in the world.

Lauder Lodge is a huge improvement over the other care home. The staff are great, there are more of them and the facilities are a big step up.

After being very unwilling to go to live in a care home I am pleased to say that thanks to the care and compassion of the staff at Lauder Lodge my father is now happily settled and enjoying his new home.He enjoys taking part in the activities and is putting on some much needed weight due to the excellent meals. Dads room is spacious and well furnished and is spotlessly clean as is all the home. Staff keep me well informed on how dad is via emails and phone calls between visits. His care is under constant revue as his dementia progresses and I can relax now knowing that he is getting the 24 hour care that he needs.

Mum does not have a big appetite but enjoys the variety of food which is provided. It’s great that mum is able to take her visitors to the cafe for a chat and some delicious home-baking.

It’s lovely taking a walk around the garden which has plenty of seating to relax and enjoy the fresh air.

We would not hesitate to recommend Lauder Lodge for your loved one.

The actual move and settling-in period has gone really well. There have been one or two minor teething problems but quickly resolved by the nursing team. Kindness does seem to be the watchword, and although home is never quite the same as your own home, it has nevertheless been a very positive experience.

Our Mum recently moved into Lauder Lodge and my sisters and I are confident that she is receiving the care and support she needs. Staff are very friendly and always on hand to answer questions or help Mum with something. The home is always fresh and clean, it actually has more of a hotel feel to it than a care home. There are various sitting rooms and a lovely café which we can sit in with Mum as well as the garden which is currently full of lovely bright flowers. There is always something for Mum to join in with if she wants to; from watching a film in the cinema room to a wheelchair walk along the sea front and she enjoyed her recent trip to the salon (at the end of the corridor!) for a fresh cut. My sisters and I feel well informed, receiving emails of upcoming activities Mum can attend and dates for review meetings.

Lauder Lodge is highly thought of in the local community and my mum is looking the best and happiest for many years.

Everyone is very friendly and caring.

Further to our uncle suffering from dementia, we were able to secure a lovely room for him at Lauder Lodge. From the very start, the team made things a lot easier for us as a family to move forward with our uncle's needs and care. He is making good progress and is settling in well. He raves about the great quality of the meals and joins in some of the activities on offer. We feel that he is now safe and in an excellent care home for his future wellbeing. Thank you.

From our first contact with Lauder Lodge, it was apparent that the staff really cared about the residents well being. Everyone made mum feel very welcome. Her moving into the home and her settling in period has been challenging for her, but the staff have helped enormously with this transition period and we no longer have to worry about her care needs. She is encouraged to take part in all the activities that are available and I am sure this helps keep her occupied and active. Covid restrictions have made life very difficult for everyone, but Lauder Lodge staff have kept us up to date with everything that is happening and we have managed to keep in touch with mum through Zoom calls. I know mum is safe and that means so much to us as a family.

My wife's uncle moved into Lauder Lodge from another care home in mid October and we are extremely pleased with the standard of care he is receiving, as is the rest of the family and friends.

From the outset we found all the staff to be open and communicative as well as friendly. The home itself is in excellent condition and rooms are decorated to a high standard. The facilities available to residents are excellent and a real step up in quality from the previous home.

It is perhaps worth mentioning in these days of COVID is that as long as you have a negative LFT and your temperature is normal, (it's automatically checked when you enter the front door) you do not need to book a visit and you are not limited to an hour.

Mum moved to live at Lauder Lodge in December 2019, after a series of events (related to Alzheimer's) led us to conclude that she needed the extra support of 24-hour care. At Lauder Lodge Mum was always cared for with dignity, respect and compassion. She was encouraged to participate in appropriate activities for her enjoyment. Although the Covid-19 lockdown brought the most difficult of circumstances, I was always reassured, from phone updates, that Mum was receiving the best possible care. Then when the home was able to open up I could once again see the skill with which Mum's needs were assessed, and re-assessed as time went on. The staff and managers are friendly and approachable and showed real care for my Mum and also to our family.
