Lauder Lodge provides a warm and caring environment which made the transition from home to residential care easy for my relative in spite of the then Covid restrictions. The staff are kind, thoughtful and friendly and the atmosphere in the home is relaxed and unhurried. Everyone seems to know all the
residents and their regular visitors. The facilities are excellent and well maintained and the coffee shop provides a degree of independence for residents and visitors which is enjoyed by us all.

Friendly, attentive staff made the move to Edinburgh very easy for my gran. Nice facilities and great views over Edinburgh and the Forth, this makes it very nice for my gran so she can see what’s going on in the world.

Lauder Lodge was our preferred choice after looking at a number of care homes. The facilities and warm welcome really stood out. Unfortunately, there were no spaces when Dad came out of hospital and we went with our second choice. Lauder Lodge’s team did a great job of keeping in touch with us and,
when a space came up after a few months, we made the move from our second choice care home.
Lauder Lodge is a huge improvement over the other care home. The staff are great, there are more of them and the facilities are a big step up.

After being very unwilling to go to live in a care home I am pleased to say that thanks to the care and compassion of the staff at Lauder Lodge my father is now happily settled and enjoying his new home.He enjoys taking part in the activities and is putting on some much needed weight due to the excellent
meals. Dads room is spacious and well furnished and is spotlessly clean as is all the home. Staff keep me well informed on how dad is via emails and phone calls between visits. His care is under constant revue as his dementia progresses and I can relax now knowing that he is getting the 24 hour care that he needs.

My sisters and I absolutely delighted with the care our mum has received since moving into Lauder Lodge. The staff on the Holyrood floor are very friendly and happy to answer any questions that we may have concerning mum’s wellbeing.
Mum does not have a big appetite but enjoys the variety of food which
is provided. It’s great that mum is able to take her visitors to the cafe for a chat and some delicious home-baking.

It’s lovely taking a walk around the garden which has plenty of seating to relax and enjoy the fresh air.

We would not hesitate to recommend Lauder Lodge for your loved one.

My partner has recently moved into Lauder Lodge. Following an initial enquiry, I was shown the Home's facilities. This was very positive and the staff were all very friendly. The premises are well maintained, modern, bright and spacious. Some lovely touches like "front doors" for each room provide a
personal touch. The Customer Relations Manager was so helpful and was very quick to reply to the many questions I had.
The Home has really lovely grounds/garden with raised beds for the residents to be involved. This is important to my partner who has had a lifelong interest in the natural world and it's a place of calm. The two ducks in the garden are also a bonus for him.
The actual move and settling-in period has gone really well. There have been one or two minor teething problems but quickly resolved by the nursing team. Kindness does seem to be the watchword, and although home is never quite the same as your own home, it has nevertheless been a very positive experience.

Our Mum recently moved into Lauder Lodge and my sisters and I are confident that she is receiving the care and support she needs. Staff are very friendly and always on hand to answer questions or help Mum with something. The home is always fresh and clean, it actually has more of a hotel feel to it
than a care home. There are various sitting rooms and a lovely café which we can sit in with Mum as well as the garden which is currently full of lovely bright flowers. There is always something for Mum to join in with if she wants to; from watching a film in the cinema room to a wheelchair walk along the sea front and she enjoyed her recent trip to the salon (at the end of the corridor!) for a fresh cut. My sisters and I feel well informed, receiving emails of upcoming activities Mum can attend and dates for review meetings.

As a family, we are delighted with the care my mum has received since moving into Lauder Lodge. All the staff are so informative, friendly and helpful and my mum looks forward to seeing them - they pop in and out all the time if passing her room or the sitting rooms etc. They are also keen to know all
the family.
Everyone is very encouraging to make sure that my mum attends activities and she has returned to many hobbies that she lost during Covid i.e knitting, indoor bowls and reading.
The customer relations manager was so informative and helpful with this big move from the very beginning when I wanted to get prepared in case my mum eventually needed to move from her own house. I had no knowledge of what to do next but he gave me many hints and tips and it felt like a much easier task. Nothing was too much trouble.
Lauder Lodge is highly thought of in the local community and my mum is looking the best and happiest for many years.

Further to our uncle suffering from dementia, we were able to secure a lovely room for him at Lauder Lodge. From the very start, the team made things a lot easier for us as a family to move forward with our uncle's needs and care. He is making good progress and is settling in well. He raves about the
great quality of the meals and joins in some of the activities on offer. We feel that he is now safe and in an excellent care home for his future wellbeing. Thank you.

From our first contact with Lauder Lodge, it was apparent that the staff really cared about the residents well being. Everyone made mum feel very welcome. Her moving into the home and her settling in period has been challenging for her, but the staff have helped enormously with this transition period
and we no longer have to worry about her care needs. She is encouraged to take part in all the activities that are available and I am sure this helps keep her occupied and active. Covid restrictions have made life very difficult for everyone, but Lauder Lodge staff have kept us up to date with everything that is happening and we have managed to keep in touch with mum through Zoom calls. I know mum is safe and that means so much to us as a family.

My wife's uncle moved into Lauder Lodge from another care home in mid October and we are extremely pleased with the standard of care he is receiving, as is the rest of the family and friends.

From the outset we found all the staff to be open and communicative as well as friendly. The home itself

is in excellent condition and rooms are decorated to a high standard. The facilities available to residents are excellent and a real step up in quality from the previous home.

It is perhaps worth mentioning in these days of COVID is that as long as you have a negative LFT and your temperature is normal, (it's automatically checked when you enter the front door) you do not need to book a visit and you are not limited to an hour.

Mum moved to live at Lauder Lodge in December 2019, after a series of events (related to Alzheimer's) led us to conclude that she needed the extra support of 24-hour care. At Lauder Lodge Mum was always cared for with dignity, respect and compassion. She was encouraged to participate in appropriate
activities for her enjoyment. Although the Covid-19 lockdown brought the most difficult of circumstances, I was always reassured, from phone updates, that Mum was receiving the best possible care. Then when the home was able to open up I could once again see the skill with which Mum's needs were assessed, and re-assessed as time went on. The staff and managers are friendly and approachable and showed real care for my Mum and also to our family.

I recently had to make the decision to move my great aunt into a residential care home. This is never an easy decision however Lauder Lodge was highly recommended and known to me, it was my preferred choice, so I was lucky in so much as I did not need to go to numerous homes and carry out visit's during
these difficult Covid 19 times. I found that after I made initial contact the procedure was straight forward and Lauder Lodge were happy to help throughout this journey. I was even more delighted, following the assessment, that a room was available.

The move and settling in period, which is still ongoing, is not easy but the staff are so kind and caring and its such a reassurance knowing that your loved one is in safe hands.

Lauder Lodge focus so much on the care and well being of their residents which is what the family want as they approach this stage in their lives.

I have said goodbye to the Lauder Lodge family. I thanked those who welcomed my precious friend before lockdown, who checked his needs and preferences and answered my questions. I thanked those who picked him up when he fell and responded with compassion when his language and actions were far from respectful.
There were those who kept me informed during lockdown and welcomed me back warmly as I walked through the door again. There were those who took time to read the books he had written, so they could understand the person he had been before MS took hold of body and mind. There were others who baked a wonderful birthday cake and scrubbed his room when he was “resident of the day”. There were nurses, who knew just how to make him comfortable and how to ease his final days and hours, who spoke softly and respectfully to him as he slipped away. He would have wanted to salute you. To those who looked after me in his final hours, I thank you all for being part of this wonderful family.

It was a difficult decision to take my mother into care Lauder Lodge, staff were wonderful explaining everything to us reassuring us at every step. Without their help with legislation explanations, we would have floundered. I’m glad Mum was offered a place here, as she is thriving, the dementia care
is excellent, and we couldn’t have asked for any more.

I wish to thank all staff in Lauder Lodge for the care and kindness my friend received during her short term stay there. As a result of 'Lockdown,' my friend was feeling very miserable and lonely. The management of Lauder Lodge very kindly accepted her as a short term resident giving her the care and
friendship she required in these dark times. She was very well looked after during her stay. Her meals, she said, were the highlight of her day - the lovely freshly baked treats throughout the day were the icing on the cake. Thank you so much.

My wife, who suffers from dementia, was admitted to Lauder Lodge in April, just three months before our Golden Wedding - and the resulting separation could have been unbearable were it not for the care and kindness shown by the management and the entire staff. Covid restrictions have made visiting difficult,
but Lauder Lodge react as quickly as possible to National guidelines and facilitate visits whenever possible. They even surprised me with an additional indoor visit on my own birthday - and my wife, with the assistance of the talented staff, had made a beautiful birthday card. When a visit needed to be cancelled due to illness, management quickly scheduled another one! Roll on the time when things return to "normal" for us all, and I can get that long-awaited Golden Wedding cuddle. In the meantime, keep up the good work all you star-carers at Lauder Lodge. Your efforts are very very much appreciated.

I can highly recommend Lauder Lodge and the staff for the excellent and compassion shown towards my mother. From the start, the staff member provided us with the detailed knowledge required to make a very easy and informed decision and enabled us to make what was a very difficult decision easy. Although
it was difficult to visit due to COVID, I was reassured with the video, images and description of the settings and facilities available so my mum could enjoy her life with the best care available in a stimulating environment. The staff have been outstanding, always keeping us up to date and assisting with visits.
If you are ever unsure and have to make the difficult decision, then contact Lauder Lodge - they gave us peace of mind.

Current Review Score: 9.7 (9.720)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 9.7 (9.720) out of 10 for Lauder Lodge is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  1. The Average Rating is 4.7 out of 5 from 35 Reviews in the last 24 months.
  2. The score for the number of positive Reviews is 5.0 out of 5 from 34 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  1. 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months. The Average Rating of 4.720 for Lauder Lodge is calculated as follows: ( (318 Excellents x 5) + (70 Goods x 4) + (14 Satisfactorys x 3) + (4 Poors x 2) + (1 Very Poors x 1) ) ÷ 407 Ratings = 4.72
  2. 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5'). The 5 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Lauder Lodge is based on 34 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    1. 4 points are available for the first 20 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews, 0.05 Points for the next five Positive Reviews, and finally 0.025 Points for the next ten Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.050, 7th = 0.050, 8th = 0.050, 9th = 0.050, 10th = 0.050, 11th = 0.025, 12th = 0.025, 13th = 0.025, 14th = 0.025, 15th = 0.025, 16th = 0.025, 17th = 0.025, 18th = 0.025, 19th = 0.025, 20th = 0.025) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 = 4
    2. 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 60 registered maximum number of service users is 12, which has been reached with 34 Positive reviews. Points = 1
  3. When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.
  4. If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.

Job Title: Home Manager

I’m a qualified nurse and have worked in a children’s clinic as well as in older people’s care. Joining Lauder Lodge has been very exciting for me: commissioning a new home is a challenge, and the whole team has worked closely together to create a wonderful home from home.

I’ve enjoyed getting to know the team in the process, identifying their strengths and using them to everyone’s advantage. I’m enjoying watching the team grow while providing exceptional service and tailored care for every resident.

I’m infamous for my sweet tooth, so I particularly enjoy afternoon tea time, when I can spend time with the residents, sharing stories and memories over a cup of tea and, of course, freshly baked goodies!

Outside of work, shopping is a guilty pleasure of mine, followed by coffee dates with friends – usually just an excuse to get the biggest cake on display!
