Belong Newcastle-under-Lyme provides 24-hour nursing and dementia care facilities for 72 residents in six households and 28 apartments for independent living, along with a range of community facilities.

It boasts an extensive village centre including bistro, exercise studio and therapy room and also a unique Heritage Gallery housed in the historic Grade II listed building that has been distinguished throughout the years as Samuel Bell's Pottery, The Old Pomona Inn and most recently the iconic Maxims nightclub, which closed in 2006.

The gallery is integrated within the village centre and links the past and present through shared memories, experiences and reminiscence and forms the base for Belong's Experience Days service, specialist day care for older people.

Featuring Samuel Bell's tea room, a recreated Old Pomona Inn with licensed bar, a reminiscence room, craft and activities room and hair salon with nail bar, the gallery offers a range of activities and opportunities for people to engage with local heritage.

Having experienced life and experience in two care homes, compromise and balance are key features. At Belong, the philosophy and aims are first class and aim to achieve the best possible balance for residents. As a "not for profit" company, they try to provide the best possible environment for elderly
and dementia residents and provide the best facilities and care. The caring staff are outstanding given their difficult and varied charges.

Absolutely fantastic place, modern, well organised with professional staff in all departments. Residents live as a family with kind and considerate carers tending to their needs. After visiting a few other care homes in the area (older properties) Belong demonstrated what a care home should be like
and how elderly residents should be treated ie in a family-style environment.
Sadly my mother in law passed away in November and even in that sad time the staff were impeccable, respectful and frankly brilliant, we cannot stress how happy we were when she was in there in a safe and secure environment.

My review relates to Guildhall Household, during lockdown 2. The staff have dealt with this difficult time exceptionally well, both with the physical needs (PPE etc) and mental well-being of the residents. It is a shame that I cannot mention names as I do think the lead carer and one of the nursing
staff, in particular, go "above and beyond" every day. It is always noticeable when they are in the household.

During the time my Mum has been a resident on the Ironmarket household, her care has been wonderful. The staff, without exception, have gone above and beyond to ensure that she was comfortable and well cared for. The household setting is very well designed and my Mum’s room was clean and bright.
When
my Mum passed away recently, her end of life care was exemplary. I am so thankful that she was able to pass away in familiar surroundings, being looked after by compassionate staff who knew her well. We as a family were also very well looked after during my Mum’s final hours. On behalf of all of my Mum's family, I would like to say a huge thank you to everyone involved in her care during her time on the Ironmarket.

I am very satisfied with the way in which my husband is looked after. During Covid, I did not see him for six months. Visits have recommenced recently and the circumstances of these are challenging to my husband as he gets restless and cannot understand why I can't go into his household. I have been
able to telephone him daily, something facilitated by the excellent staff. I did see him in the household when he had a life-threatening event.

My mother came to Friarswood after a stroke, her recovery has been fantastic due to the care of the staff who spend time encouraging her to help herself. During this difficult time, they are all still working very hard to ensure the residents are being kept in a happy state of mind with various activities.

I can not speak highly enough about the care and compassion provided to my father.
Throughout his stay in Brampton, he was always well looked after and his needs met. The COVID virus has made the situation difficult for everyone, but all the staff did their utmost to look after him. At the end you
would have thought they were part of his close family, providing comfort to us all. I thank you for making my father's last few months as good as they possibly could have been.

My dad has been a resident at Belong since February last year and he has been very well looked after. The carers are indeed very caring and my dad has grown very fond of some of them. This has really helped him settle into his new home. Belong as an organisation has a real charitable ethos, as befits
its status, and, when dealing with the staff at any level, the focus on people rather than profit is very evident.

My dad is currently a resident in Belong at Friarswood and is receiving excellent care from all of the staff. Due to his illness, his behaviour is challenging at times but he has formed a bond with one of his care workers, and she has gone above and beyond to help him to adjust to being in a care facility.
We understand the rules on visiting due to Covid-19 but again the staff at Belong have done everything they can to accommodate our visits. We wanted somewhere that my dad could treat as his home for the last few weeks of his life and Belong are giving him this. He often washes the dishes and is outside in the garden when the weather permits. We have even been able to take my dad's dog in for a visit.

Dad was welcomed into Belong this year and from day one he has been treated with kindness and respect. The care staff are amazing, they really do care about every person living there, it's not just a job to them, they care about us and the family as well. Each service user has their own private space,
which can be furnished however they want it to be so that settling in is made as easy as possible. The communal areas are home from home, the space is calm and comfortable, with much laughter. The peace of mind we have as a family knowing that Dad is well looked after, safe and cared for is priceless. I can't say praise to Belong enough, all I can say is it enables me to sleep at night knowing Dad is there.

I could not fault the current care staff and nurses for the care they provide at Belong. Their knowledge and understanding of Dad's physical emotional and social changing needs ensure he is kept comfortable, smiling, and as independent as possible. During the many months of the COVID 19 lockdown period,
the carers recognised how difficult it was not being able to visit and they went out of their way to provide support, communication with Dad, reassurance and updates. It’s the little things they all have done which means so much.

My father came into one of the households at the height of the Covid-19 pandemic. He celebrated his birthday not long after his admission, and the staff made it a magical day for him. All the staff seem very friendly and caring, and he tells me he often has a laugh with them. He’s even been encouraged
to use the gym and is enjoying completing the exercises. The areas designated for family/friends visits are set up in a safe environment. I am happy that he has got such a good team of people looking after him.

To all the staff at Belong Newcastle under Lyme, especially on the iron market floor.
Although our father was only at belong for a short while the care he received was second to none. We only wished he could have been placed under their care sooner.
The dignity, compassion and understanding that you
showed my father and ourselves was incredible. You not only looked after our father but made sure we were cared for also, from food and drink, to discussing Dad's treatment, we never felt out of the loop.
When Dad finally passed away you were there to support us and in my opinion, the staff went above and beyond. We will be forever grateful for the kindness that you showed us.

My father received exceptional care on Hempstalls Household from day one, when he moved there in April 2019. The staff, with their outstanding Lead, were simply wonderful and they made my mum, myself and all of our family, feel as though we were a real part of life on the household. The compassion,
love and care shown to Dad was unwavering; we felt so confident in every decision that was made on his behalf; we trusted them completely. Dad joined in with a host of activities, arranged by a great team who understood his limitations and yet still managed to find ways of helping him to achieve some wonderful results, not least in our highlight activity - baking! We genuinely felt as though we were good friends with staff, other residents and their families which was so important, as supporting the staff in Dad's care was a huge part of our life for such a long time. We were concerned for the team when they had to rely on a number of agency staff and we hope that can be resolved for them.

My husband resided at Belong from August 2019 until his death in May 2020. He received amazing attention and care. I cannot praise the staff of Friarswood too highly. He was also involved and enjoyed, the various activities and games. Nothing seemed to be too much trouble and after, at the end, he felt
the staff part of his family.

Josephine

Josephine Mollison

Job Title: General Manager

Josephine started her career at working at our Belong Crewe village. Her expertise in leadership and mentoring meant she quickly developed to the role of Senior Support Worker and then Lead Senior Support worker.


Her passion for caring and support for people living with Dementia, resulted in her contribution to the village's success in achieving the rating of ‘Outstanding’ by the Care Quality Commission.


Josephine has supported at various Belong villages, in Lead Support roles, over the past couple of years before being appointed to the role of Support Manager at Belong Newcastle-under-Lyme, before transferring to Belong Warrington in 2022.


She holds a Level 5 qualification in Leadership and Management in Health and Social Care and was also awarded the Dementia Champion Award at Belong's 2020 Champion Awards ceremony.


Josephine strives to continue to champion person-centred care, high standards of quality care, and positive wellbeing.

Lisa Wild

Job Title: Support Manager

Lisa was previously the Lead Senior Support Worker, joining the organisation with a wealth of skills and knowledge acquired during her career in domiciliary care.


Demonstrating Belong’s values in her work, as well as a full understanding of the regulatory elements of the role, Lisa was promoted to the Assistant Support Manager position and has successfully completed her level 5 diploma to support her in the next stage of her Belong journey.

Emma leads the village’s programme of activities, both for residents and members of the wider community, including customers visiting the village on Experience Days.
