Fantastic party for the coronation. Absolutely nothing forgotten. The food selection was sensational and the home was decorated to the maximum. The team had obviously worked really hard to make the day special for the residents and their guests.
This home has always had a lovely warm atmosphere with warm friendly staff and no matter what they do, their main priority is the care of the residents.

Thank you.

I attended the coronation celebrations and thought it was a wonderful, well-planned event with lovely food, entertainment and props. The staff were as always pleasant and actively involved.

I visit my auntie regularly and I'm very impressed with the home, staff and facilities. It's very clear no expense is spared with it comes down to entertainment, activities and facilities and members of staff too. there always seems to be plenty of staff. I wish all care homes were like this, not just the ones that most people could not afford.

I’m so pleased with Westhill Park and all the staff. As my mother has deteriorated the care given has been excellent. Every effort is being made to make her life as normal as possible and include her in the activities that she is able to do. Most of the staff go that extra mile and it makes such a difference. I have spent many hours in Westhill visiting and the staff have been very accommodating to me too. Food has improved, and the activities and entertainment cannot be faulted. All in all this last few months I have been more than happy seeing my mother being taken care of so well. Well done to all staff!

This is a lovely home with fantastic caring staff who have been friends to both my parents. Over a couple of years, my mother received wonderful care as her needs grew. When she passed away, the staff could not have been better, including letting us have a family gathering with my father in a private room to celebrate my mother's life.

The home is very light and airy, and is very well maintained. Cleanliness and surroundings are taken very seriously.

When we were looking for a home for my mother one of her neighbours had been looking for a place for her mother in the same area. Her top choice was Westhill Park. We visited and understood why: modern, clean and well laid out. Large rooms with en-suite bathrooms. The ability to decorate to one's taste. Good food. And the staff really cares. This latter point was proven to me time after time over the last year. If you want the best for your loved one, don't hesitate. Communication is always top notch and questions about the care and all matters pertaining to your loved one is a phone call away.

Overall Experience

The experience we had at Westhill Park is not how we would have wished my grandmother's final few years to be. She initially settled well while her needs were that of basic dementia care, however unfortunately once her condition deteriorated it felt like a constant battle to ensure that her needs were met. There was a lack of inclusivity for someone of her physical and cognitive needs and as a family, we had to fight hard for her to have things that were imperative to her comfort and safety. Communication was poor throughout her time as a resident and this largely impacted on all other areas of her care and ultimately led to the end of her life not being an experience we would want anyone else to have to go through.

My Mums care at Westhill was like a roller coaster ride starting with some fairly good care in Sept 2019 but after many changes in management and staff, it spiralled downhill from then on. This home is fine for residents with moderate care needs but advanced dementia residents are not well catered for or included in indoor activities and outdoor outings. My Mum lost many of her personal belongings, glasses, jewellery etc. even aids such as pressure cushions that were provided solely for her use and were labelled all went missing. We had to continually ask for things recommended by outside agencies to be put into place and there was always an excuse as to why it could not happen. The final part of Mum's journey was horrible and I hope that no other resident has to end their life in the same way.

I’ve given these 5 stars because it’s a really nice place. The staff make you welcome every time. They look after my grandad really well every time I go to see him all he does is talk about how happy he is in this place. The staff should give themselves a round of applause because they work 24/7.

July 2022 was a demanding month, with its challenging climate conditions. One I am pleased to say the home rose to. Plenty of cold drinks and curtains, where necessary, closed. We found it necessary to purchase an individual room fan to keep the room temperature comfortable. We still find the laundry arrangements chaotic and at times, illogical. Some items still vanish for days, turning up unexpectedly, other items vanish, never to reappear. Most days it operates fairly smoothly and is acceptable. Food and drink are of a high standard and appear to be plenty of alternatives and enjoyed by the residents. The activities and entertainment programme seems varied and imaginative.

Thank you for your kind words, this summer has had its challenges and we appreciate your positive feedback regarding our handling of them. My friend is very happy at Westhill Park. She is far less anxious than when she went into care as was not coping at home. Now back to normal visiting is possible, I’ve found staff are always very welcoming and helpful. The care during the hot weather has been fantastic and emails from management have been very reassuring regarding what accommodations have been made to keep everyone safe and well during this hot weather. There is still a way to go with getting a regular monthly update from her key worker. Otherwise, communication is a strength.

My Grandmother has been at Westhill Park for just over a year now, the transition of moving during the lockdown was difficult due to limited access to the home but the staff were amazing to ensure she settled in well. It’s now great to see that since the pandemic things are getting back to some normality. My Grandmother now attends a variety of activities which she loves, she has her hair done every week and overall is happy to be in the home which is amazing. The staff are lovely, the home is incredibly clean and welcoming and would highly recommend Westhill Park.

My father came to the care home for two weeks of respite care. His food was often cold and had to be sent back to be reheated. He had four falls whilst in their care and two trips to the hospital. Staff were slow to respond to the alarm and disregarded his food preferences. Some of his clothes were lost as they failed to label them and communication over this issue was poor. The receptionist was always pleasant but didn't get back to me in regards to the clothes. The activities organiser helped with the food issue but again did not get back to me in regards to missing clothes.

Meet the Team (5)

Sharmaine Hall
Sharmaine HallJob Title:Home ManagerJoined: 2021

In December 2009, I started a job as a support worker in a care home with no idea whether I would suit the role, I then became a senior support worker, then a team leader, a deputy manager, a project manager and then home manager, I think it's fair to say that I suited the role.

Sadly, there is a perception of care that is quite dated and conjures up images of dingy lounges and rice pudding. From day one I wanted to prove that good care homes can be fabulous places to live, that they were not institutions but homes with beautiful facilities and opportunities to really live, not just exist.

When I am making decisions about hiring, menus, activities, decor, I always imagine my family and think about what I would want for them. The people we care for are individuals with rich histories and I want them to remain so, nobody has to fit in here. We provide a service to meet individual needs and that is as it should be.

My favourite part of the job is working with my team; knowing that we are making a difference, I like to lead by example. I work hard to ensure that we are providing a high standard of care and that the home is a happy place.

Every day I work with families and other professionals to ensure our residents get the best service. I am caring and passionate about what I do.

Westhill Park is a fantastic home with hardworking and caring staff. The residents that live with us are amazing and have such individual characters and amazing stories to share. The staff take pleasure in getting to know them and their families, listening to their life histories enables them to form a bond and gain their trust.

One day I'd like to be a director of care, I won't be satisfied until I know that I have provided 5 star care to as many people as possible.

Working in social care is not a job, it's a vocation and I feel truly blessed to have found mine.

Hi, my name is Stephen and I am the Housekeeping Manager here at Westhill Park.

Firstly, I'm going to tell you about myself. I was born and raised in Stoke on Trent, I have lived up North and down South and I am currently living in Kettering. As soon as I left school I went straight into employment I have had various job roles but I found that I am best suited in the hospitality industry. I worked to achieve my NVQ Level 2 in hospitality during my working career.

I was employed as a Housekeeper once I started at Westhill Park but soon progressed into my role as Housekeeping Manager soon after.

The best part of my job is managing my team, working alongside the management to care for the residents who live here at Westhill Park.

Katie Partridge
Katie PartridgeJob Title:Head ChefJoined: 2023

I came to Westhill Park two years ago as a Kitchen Assistant. During the first 6 months, I was promoted to Deputy Chef where I assisted the Head Chef in the daily running of the kitchen and trained the Kitchen Assistants in maintaining high standards of the kitchen and producing hearty, homely food for our loved ones.

Every now and then, I also cover care, which gives me a great opportunity to interact with our residents. I have familiarised myself with residents' likes and dislikes of food, which has led to a better understanding of how to support their nutritional needs.

In my two years at Westhill Park, I've maintained the 5-star rating with E.H.O. and have entered competitions, which have been an amazing experience for me. Earlier this year, I entered Anchor's internal Chef of the Year competition, where I was in the semi-finals. The judges' feedback was positive, and they were impressed with the food I had produced. I was invited to the final of the Chef of the Year and was proud to assist the other Chefs and experience the event, which was wonderful. I'll enter again this year for sure. I'm also very proud to be a finalist in the regional Great British Care Awards in the Care Home Cook/ Chef award.

I wouldn't be where I am today without the amazing support of my team and the managers at Westhill Park.

Hi, my name is Connor, and I am 26 years old

I was born in Haywards Heath. I decided to move up to Kettering spontaneously, and the first job I got was working as a housekeeper/ Kitchen assistant. Since then, I progressed into care, and I’ve taken a new role at Westhill Park as the Care Home’s Handy Person.

My role is to make sure the home remains a safe haven for our residents and staff, and for the home to feel as welcoming as possible. What I enjoy the most is being hands-on and actively present in the day-to-day running of the home. I enjoy helping the residents by repairing items, sorting furniture and painting to make it homely. I want to make sure that everyone is living in a person-centred environment that is as much of a home-from-home as possible.
