My Aunt moved into Westhill Park on Monday, February 24th. She settled in very well, she loved her room and the food. She said the staff were very kind and helpful. On April 15th she developed a chest infection and was to be tested for COVID-19. She was admitted to hospital on April 25th and sadly died
on the 27th of COVID-19. I'm sure the staff did all they could and we are only sorry that she didn't have more time to enjoy herself at Westhill Park.
Reply from Susanne Stevens, Home Manager at Westhill ParkThank you very much for your comments and taking the time to review our home. We loved having your aunt live with us at Westhill Park and she is very much missed by us all. Thank you again and best wishes.

It has been a trying time for everyone over the last few months but the staff have been wonderful, supportive to both my mother and myself. The regular phone calls to update me are very reassuring. The Lifestyle Team have worked hard to keep everyone entertained, coming up with some novel ideas. So
pleased that Mum has been safe and well looked after. Thank you all.

My 97-year-old father and my 93-year-old mother have both been residents of Westhill Park since October 2019. Sadly they both tested positive for Covid-19 during April 2020 and were both very poorly. We fully understood that we were unable to visit to comfort and reassure them, which was difficult for
the whole family as we have always been very close. Thanks to the outstanding levels of care from all the staff at Westhill Park, we were confident that Mum and Dad were in the best possible place throughout this difficult time. We were helped by the regular and thorough updates from the team and from the daily updates on the relative's app, which all served to give us peace of mind. Thanks to the dedication and commitment from all the care workers at Westhill Park, my parents have both now recovered from the virus, and are looking forward to family visits when the situation allows. We give our heartfelt thanks to everyone at Westhill Park for all they have done.
Reply from Susanne Stevens, Home Manager at Westhill ParkThank you so much for taking the time to provide your feedback. This care home's management of the Covid-19 situation has been impressive. Management have shown an ability to take control of the situation without apportioning blame/passing the buck, despite losing a staff member to the disease. Similarly, they have taken responsibility for their own procurement.
Relatives can fully engage with family members via the phone and social media. Daily social media updates show events/activities at the home, demonstrating staffs adaptability, resilience and determination.
My resident required hospitalisation during this period, Westhill did not hesitate in getting her the care she needed, and we were kept well informed of the situation at all times. Emails have been received from senior management and a video message from the CEO. We have found our very regular updates in the form of an informal chat with the lady who normally handles sales/marketing very reassuring and comforting.
You're doing a great job and communication has been excellent!

The staff at Westhill Park continue to go above and beyond what would be expected in a good care home. It is more like a high-quality hotel. My father has been looked after and entertained, even while confined to his room for two weeks. He is very happy there, and his family are very grateful that he
is in such a wonderful home.

Since the outbreak of Covid-19 we have been unable to visit Mum at Westhill Park, but we have seen her every week by video call which was instigated by the home, and it’s so nice and reassuring to see Mum so happy and well cared for. They have also called us twice a week to update us on the health and
well-being of Mum and if any changes have had to be made to ensure the resident's and staff safety. This has been excellent and at all times the team at Westhill Park have shown their dedication and how much they care. It is truly appreciated, especially at this worrying time. Thank you to everyone who works at the home, you have been very special.

I have been very pleased with the outstanding care my mother has had during this difficult time. The Coronavirus has had devastating effects, and the Westhill staff have carried out their various jobs brilliantly. They have been so kind and caring, and totally committed to looking after the residents
in a professional way. My mum has been very happy with her care, and although she didn't like isolating in her room, she understood why it was necessary. The staff have provided some great entertainment for the residents knowing how hard they must be finding the situation, not seeing their families and friends. Being able to see my mum on a video call or speak on the phone has been very reassuring. I can only say a huge thank you to the Westhill staff, every one of them, for looking after my Mother so well.
Best wishes to you all and keep safe.

When Mum arrived she could not have been made more welcome. Her bed was covered with towel swans and decorative covers. A welcome basket and card from the staff was on the table. Everyone is very friendly and do their best to make her feel at home. Her pain relief has been sorted and a district nurse
involved in her care on day 3! As a retired school cook, she knows what she means when she says the food is lovely! Thank you Westhill Park.

My 93-year-old father-in-law moved into Westhill Park in November 2019 and our family are very happy about the care he receives. The staff and facilities are wonderful and there are always plenty of activities. Dad particularly enjoys the 'gym' where he likes to do some cycling on a specially adapted
machine. The home are also able to take him to his hospital appointments which is especially helpful. When Dad was unable to video call with us on his tablet, a brief email to the home ensured a quick response and he was up and running once more. This was a relief as we live overseas and video call is the easiest way for him and us to communicate.

My mother spent 5 weeks at Westhill Park and was very satisfied with the care and treatment she received. The staff were extremely helpful and friendly, nothing was too much trouble. The food was excellent with a varied menu and was prepared daily in their own kitchens. The rooms are well-appointed
with plenty of space and storage. A varied entertainment schedule was produced each week, which included visits from various entertainers, as well as regular trips out in their own transport. All of this and more is included in the monthly fee. I would certainly recommend Westhill Park.

Mum stayed at Westhill for 5 weeks in Jan/Feb 2020. The staff at the home went out of their way to make mum feel welcome and at home. They accommodated any requests we made, such as adding hooks to the back of doors and altering the hanging rail in her wardrobe.
The care staff were fantastic, all very
friendly and communicative. The quality of the food was very high, which I sampled myself.
From an activities perspective, there was already plenty going on, including trips out. A weekly planner was sent to me every week, as well as given to mum, so we knew in advance what was happening, which was very helpful.
We did experience some confusion over laundry but that was resolved.
Mum was very happy here and well looked after.
Thank you.

As a daughter, I was extremely anxious having to entrust the care of my elderly, frail mother to others. I need not have worried as we were made to feel very welcome and nothing was too much trouble; it's so lovely and inviting. Westhill Park is an amazing care home, staff are so kind and caring, treating
residents with respect and dignity. They provide a fantastic range of cooked meals and beverages, my mother has even put on weight! The home has wonderful facilities and the daily activities encourage residents to mix and gain confidence and make new friends. A first-class home - highly recommend.

I used this care home for respite after a nasty fall. I found it a very helpful and pleasant 2-week stay. Kind, cheerful and helpful staff, nothing too much trouble. Pleasant, bright rooms, nicely decorated and furnished. Friends and relatives always made welcome, cleanliness good. Activities got me
joining in, I loved the whole experience with just a small number of irritations both with residents and staff. (No one is perfect.) Good to feel safe, cared for and treated with respect.

What an amazing place for my 98-year-old mother to spend the last years of her life. As I and all Mum's family live in Australia, it is extremely important for me to know that my mother is being cared for and loved and she certainly is. My mother moved into Westhill on her 98th birthday in June and
she has been one happy lady since that first day. Westhill put on a birthday tea for her and a few friends (she only arrived at 2 pm and at 3 pm she was enjoying a birthday party with a lovely birthday cake and sandwiches provided by Westhill). My husband and I visited in September and were warmly welcomed by everyone we met - staff and residents too. We shared many good times at the home joining in the entertainment, games and being able to share some mealtimes with Mum was so perfect.
We are now back in Australia knowing that my mother is being cared for just like we would care for her if we lived closer.

My mother has come to the home for short term respite to give her time to get over an injury to her leg which requires 24hour care. I can't fault anything about the home, everyone is so helpful and caring as they go about their work.
There are always plenty of activities going on to keep the residents
occupied. You are always made to feel welcome when you visit. My mother had her 90th birthday at the home for about 40 visitors and the home provided the buffet, it was lovely and much appreciated.

(1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.050, 7th = 0.050, 8th = 0.050, 9th = 0.050, 10th = 0.050, 11th = 0.025, 12th = 0.025, 13th = 0.025, 14th = 0.025, 15th = 0.025, 16th = 0.025, 17th = 0.025, 18th = 0.025, 19th = 0.025, 20th = 0.025) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 = 4
    2. 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 66 registered maximum number of service users is 13.2, which has been reached with 29 Positive reviews. Points = 1
  3. When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.
  4. If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.

Job Title: Home Manager Joined: 2021

In December 2009, I started a job as a support worker in a care home with no idea whether I would suit the role, I then became a senior support worker, then a team leader, a deputy manager, a project manager and then home manager, I think it's fair to say that I suited the role.

Sadly, there is a perception of care that is quite dated and conjures up images of dingy lounges and rice pudding. From day one I wanted to prove that good care homes can be fabulous places to live, that they were not institutions but homes with beautiful facilities and opportunities to really live, not just exist.

When I am making decisions about hiring, menus, activities, decor, I always imagine my family and think about what I would want for them. The people we care for are individuals with rich histories and I want them to remain so, nobody has to fit in here. We provide a service to meet individual needs and that is as it should be.

My favourite part of the job is working with my team; knowing that we are making a difference, I like to lead by example. I work hard to ensure that we are providing a high standard of care and that the home is a happy place.

Every day I work with families and other professionals to ensure our residents get the best service. I am caring and passionate about what I do.

Westhill Park is a fantastic home with hardworking and caring staff. The residents that live with us are amazing and have such individual characters and amazing stories to share. The staff take pleasure in getting to know them and their families, listening to their life histories enables them to form a bond and gain their trust.
One day I'd like to be a director of care, I won't be satisfied until I know that I have provided 5 star care to as many people as possible.

Working in social care is not a job, it's a vocation and I feel truly blessed to have found mine.

Job Title: Housekeeping Manager Joined: 2021

Hi, my name is Stephen and I am the Housekeeping Manager here at Westhill Park.

Firstly, I'm going to tell you about myself. I was born and raised in Stoke on Trent, I have lived up North and down South and I am currently living in Kettering. As soon as I left school I went straight into employment I have had various job roles but I found that I am best suited in the hospitality industry. I worked to achieve my NVQ Level 2 in hospitality during my working career.

I was employed as a Housekeeper once I started at Westhill Park but soon progressed into my role as Housekeeping Manager soon after.

The best part of my job is managing my team, working alongside the management to care for the residents who live here at Westhill Park.

Job Title: Head Chef Joined: 2023

I came to Westhill Park two years ago as a Kitchen Assistant. During the first 6 months, I was promoted to Deputy Chef where I assisted the Head Chef in the daily running of the kitchen and trained the Kitchen Assistants in maintaining high standards of the kitchen and producing hearty, homely food for our loved ones.

Every now and then, I also cover care, which gives me a great opportunity to interact with our residents. I have familiarised myself with residents' likes and dislikes of food, which has led to a better understanding of how to support their nutritional needs.

In my two years at Westhill Park, I've maintained the 5-star rating with E.H.O. and have entered competitions, which have been an amazing experience for me. Earlier this year, I entered Anchor's internal Chef of the Year competition, where I was in the semi-finals. The judges' feedback was positive, and they were impressed with the food I had produced. I was invited to the final of the Chef of the Year and was proud to assist the other Chefs and experience the event, which was wonderful. I'll enter again this year for sure. I'm also very proud to be a finalist in the regional Great British Care Awards in the Care Home Cook/ Chef award.

I wouldn't be where I am today without the amazing support of my team and the managers at Westhill Park.
