Falkland Grange Care Home opened in 2019 and provides residential, dementia, nursing and respite care for individuals living in Newbury and the wider Berkshire area. As with all Porthaven care homes, the team at Falkland Grange provide 24 hour support for their residents in an environment purpose-built for care. A place to live well, residents at Falkland Grange have their own generously sized bedrooms with private en suite wetrooms as well as various communal living and dining areas to enjoy. All residents at Falkland Grange also benefit from access to the home's cinema, hair and nail salon, activities and wellbeing room, café for catching up with loved ones and private dining room for celebrating special family occasions. With activities on offer seven days a week, there is no shortage of entertainment for residents at Falkland Grange, who can also choose to spend their time in the home's secure and spacious gardens.

Falkland Grange is a beautiful care home with lots of places to sit quietly or in small groups in addition to Mum's room. The staff whether they be nursing care, janitorial, food service, administrative or entertainment, all exhibit genuine care toward her. I cannot praise them enough for making this
very difficult transition easier for her.

Mum moved into Falkland Grange Care Home a month ago as her dementia deteriorated past the point where she could remain at home. We knew the transition would be problematic and as a result, we were dreading the move.
After dropping Mum off, we were advised to leave it four days before coming in, to
allow Mum time to acclimatise. On day four, I visited and was amazed that Mum appeared very settled.
Over the last four weeks, this has continued. There are days when she is a bit unsettled but no more so than she was at home with carers visiting every day.
Positives are that Mum is now comfortable, safe and secure with 24/7 care. She is settled and calm, is sleeping and eating well and is benefitting from spending time with people which she hasn't been able to do in recent years.
Negatives are that Mum wants to walk but this is obviously restricted for dementia patients.
The building is amazing, the staff caring and wonderful and the coffee bar fantastic. It's definitely the best place that Mum could be.

My wife and I became residents at Falkland Grange Care Home just over a month ago and we are pleased we made this move. The care home and nursing staff are very friendly and professional and we feel well looked after and safe. The catering is excellent with well-balanced and varied choices available.
The weekly diary of activities provides a social opportunity to meet other residents. We enjoy the well-maintained and designed care home that has many useful and thoughtful additions that give it a more homely feel. The garden lounges, library, cinema, gym and bistro are food areas to both relax and meet family.

My mother moved into Falkland Grange Care Home six weeks ago. She has found the move very difficult and has struggled to settle in but the care and support given by all the staff have been and remain exceptional. The home is comfortable and well-maintained, there are lovely gardens for the residents
and their guests to enjoy and there are plenty of activities on offer.

My husband had Alzheimers and died 10 years ago I therefore have great understanding what is required for their care. It is essential they are monitored properly. My husband had to go to hospital with acute dehydration after six months in a Care Home.
I work now as an unofficial councillor for families
with a family member who has Alzheimer's and spend a great deal of time looking at Care Homes.
I am very impressed with Falklands Grange.
The building is well designed; attractive gardens; the staff very helpful; the daily timetable excellent; it is so important they are occupied.
It has a very friendly atmosphere and visitors are made very welcome.

I have been visiting my friend for over eighteen months now and I am very impressed with her care. She is always clean and well-dressed and the staff are very aware of her needs, especially as she is diabetic.
We enjoy exploring the grounds which are well-maintained and all staff, regardless of department,
are friendly and approachable.
I particularly like the fact we can visit at any time so there is obviously nothing to hide! Keep up the lovely work you do.

Visiting my friend over a period of days, I found the staff welcoming, cheerful and caring with residents and attentive to their needs. The decor and furnishings are stylish and of good quality. Many activities are on offer. I feel my friend is in a comfortable and safe place.

My experience with Falkland Grange Care Home was always very positive. They correctly assessed my partner's changing needs over time and gave her what I can only describe as loving care 24/7. When I visited my partner, all levels of management and staff were always friendly and willing to help, provide
information, deal with any issues and discuss any matters. They also guided me as to what I should do to provide for my partner.
The home provides an extensive programme of internal and external interesting events and activities for patients and their relatives to take part in and enjoy, e.g. music. Bereaved relatives are also invited to discussion sessions where they can meet a variety of speakers on different topics.
The home is basically clean and well-maintained. There is a garden for residents and relatives to use for getting out into the open air.
There is a doctor's surgery and pharmacy next door to the home's site.

I visited my friend today. She seemed very happy and really liked all the staff. The staff were really helpful to me and my son who came too and they loved my son's dog and encouraged her to meet the other residents. I feel the home had a very nice atmosphere.

It was a lovely visit, we had coffee and shortbread in the bistro, lovely to see so many people - felt that my friend "belonged there"!
Very reassuring, when it was lunchtime (went too fast) he was approached politely and we said our goodbyes (for now).

The initial help in making the decision to try respite care for my husband was done with great professionalism and kindness. I am still exploring ways of making things easier, but all along the way, the staff have been more than helpful. They manage the residents on the dementia floor with huge patience
and invent, so many ways of entertaining and helping them. We still have to make the decision whether to graduate to full residency, but I am sure that I can rely on the same degree of help in working this out.

My mother is a reluctant resident, having lived and cared for herself for the last 30 years, so transition has been hard for her. The residence itself is clean and tidy as one would expect from a relatively new establishment. She finds the staff kind, considerate and helpful but sometimes distracted
by other matters. The facilities are good the room tidy and warm. However the one major disappointment seems to be that the food is simply not of an acceptable standard and has got worse since she first went there. Unfortunately this is an important item and really needs to be looked at as it is the one thing the residents have to look forward to. Being able to visit at anytime is very helpful and the activities mean that my mother has a more social life than she did at home.

My father was happy and feeling better following a hospital stay. The nurse came in and explained the situation to us and informed us of their forthcoming plan to get him mobile again. The housekeeper also came in to check on him.

My mother has been a resident at Falkland Grange Care Home since its opening. It's a lovely environment with high quality furnishings, nice social areas and a wonderful garden. Mum settled well, quickly building a positive rapport with the care staff, nurses and management. Her treatment throughout
has been excellent and the team are quick to manage and report to us any issues or changes. During Covid and throughout the pandemic, she was protected and well looked after. They run numerous activities including 'knit and natter', flower arranging, quizzes and films in the cinema. Plus, they had a fantastic visit by a falconry team and a Shetland pony recently.
Mum has many friends there who she can meet in the bistro, lounges, or for a nice meal in the dining room. We were concerned how she would integrate into a care home environment, viewing many prior to choosing Falkland Grange. Looking back on the past three years, we made an excellent choice and are pleased Mum now refers to the Grange as home.

Hello, my name is Caroline Palmer, and I am a Housekeeping Assistant here at Falkland Grange.


I have been working in housekeeping since 2018, and I have been part of the Falkland Grange team since our home first opened. I am passionate about our residents living in an environment that is clean, tidy and maintained to the high standard they deserve. As part of my role, I am responsible for overseeing our home's laundry and managing individuals in the housekeeping team, who are all just as passionate as I am about the cleanliness of our home.
