Overall Experience
My father is now a permanent resident at Mortain Place having originally come for respite care. The decision to make residence permanent was made much easier by the standard of care that he received. The staff are, without exception, caring and kind but also fun. The ability to have a joke and laugh makes a great difference to the overall experience and makes what can be a difficult transition that much easier. A wide range of activities are offered ranging from days out to regular visits from therapy dogs.

Overall the care standard is excellent with a very good ratio of staff to residents and the facilities both in individual rooms and communal areas are also at a high standard.

My mother-in-law moved into Mortain Place, Eastbourne from hospital in March 2026, she is 98 years old. She has settled in well. We have found the staff helpful, friendly and kind, they treat the residents like they would their own parents. The building is very well maintained, the facilities are first class and the rooms are spacious and airy.

I would have no hesitation in recommending Mortain Place.

My parents enjoyed a short stay for a few weeks while convalescing from a hospital discharge. From start to finish, from our first enquiry to their returning home we had a brilliant experience. The team are thoughtful, kind and professional, while the facilities themselves are great. I joked I wouldn't have minded a stay myself. Highly recommended.

The care my mum was given was second to none. The friendly, home-from-home atmosphere is evident the minute you walk through the door. The staff went out of their way to make sure mum had everything she needed or wanted. The staff were also very caring to me and helped me with anything I needed. The accommodation is lovely. Very clean and well kept. The food is lovely with all diets and tastes catered for. The home also provides a full entertainment schedule with something for everyone, consisting of activities on site and external trips and specialist visitors. I cannot say enough good things about Mortain Place. There is nowhere else I would have wanted my mum to be.

My aunt required emergency respite care and Mortain Place were able to offer that within an hour of my call. From the initial assessment, throughout the 2 week stay to when she left, my aunt was cared for by an amazing group of people who couldn't have done more for her. They were incredibly professional, whilst maintaining a caring, personal and dignified approach to her needs. Unfortunately it became clear that she required more than residential care, but whilst myself and the family made alternative arrangements, they provided the best care we could have asked for. They even went the extra mile to wash her hair and do her nails, giving her a pamper session before she was transferred. Thank you all for looking after her.

My mum came into Mortain Place in August 2025 and it's been the best decision we made as a family.
The level of care my mum has received has given her back the health, safety and dignity that her dementia was stealing from her.

The staff are all incredible. The kindness, patience and understanding with both my mum and us the family has been incredible. We now can't imagine Mum being anywhere else.

My experience moving my mother to Mortain care home.
I had good support organising the finances arrangements with the Administrator Manager all in good time.
General Manager talked through all our options with myself and my mother, and all staff gave us excellent support in moving my mother into the care home.
My Mother received incredible welcome on her first day moving into the home, and she was made to feel so welcomed.
The maintenance team supported us in hanging up my mother painting on her walls, they were kind and supportive.
And this helped my mother feel so settled in her room.
All Mortain staff has made us feel as a family so welcomed and supportive.

Mortain care is a very warm loving care home.

Initial requirement was for 2-4 weeks respite care for my mother, and made inquiries of several local homes.
Chose Mortain Place as apart from excellent facilities, from the initial enquiry through to first visit and then agreement to place my mother there, I found the whole process to be efficient, informative, and most importantly, there was a genuine interest of what I was looking to achieve for the time that my mother was to spend there. My mother's stay has been extended and her condition has improved considerably.

I have found the staff and management to be fully engaged, and most of all, my mother has had nothing to complain about.......

My Mum had a nasty fall so we wanted her to have some respite so she could be properly looked after while she recovered. I chose Mortain Place as I absolutely loved it as soon as I walked in. The place is gorgeous, lovely soft comfortable furnishings, calming colours, very spacious room and beautifully clean. But more than that, are the staff. They are truly remarkable, nothing is too much and they go out of their way to ensure Mum is extremely well cared for, she is treated like the most important person. To us, it's invaluable she is happy, safe and comfortable and Mortain Place delivers that in spades!! Mum will be returning again next week for another respite stay and it will just be a matter of time before she is a permanent resident. It's a truly special place!
