I've been here three years, badly disabled after falling down stairs. I have no close relations. As you see I have selected excellent ratings for every category because that really is how I have found Barchester Mortain Place Care Home. I put on weight with all the good food - I outgrew the top part of my dresses. A laundry lady offered to adapt my dresses in her own time, free of charge. Over three years, I have had ten such dresses. She's a lovely lady and excellent seamstress. All dresses look so neat and professional and now comfortable. She won't take any money and always shares chocolates I buy instead. I have other examples from carers, activity staff and others too, numerous to describe here. I'm never bored or lonely, I only have to ask for help and it's promptly given. The staff are warm and friendly and very professional as well. I will say though that I think your own (residents) mindset is important. I'm very glad and happy to be here.

After falling and given the deterioration of her physical (and slight mental) health meant living in a warden-controlled property with no on-site care was proving impractical.

After an initial 30 days respite here following 2 weeks in the local hospital, she asked to remain and her physical health has improved tremendously. After 18 months of restricted mobility due to wheelchair use, now 3 months later, she is using a walker and is much more active. She has a greatly improved social life, new interests and there has been no decline in her mental faculties.

My mum came for a respite break and is now staying on as a permanent resident. All the way through the process of choosing a home to settling in all the staff were very helpful, kind and professional.

She likes her room with a view of birds and squirrels in the gardens and seems to have taken to 'armchair tennis'.

My mother moved into Barchester Mortain Place in October of 2023. When we first walked into the home to view it, I was amazed at how the atmosphere felt. It had a great feeling of warmth and love. All the carers and staff are first class, they always have a smile and a friendly greeting. I feel that my mum is in a safe place where she is looked after but more than that she is genuinely cared for. There is always something going on and the entertainment team is second to none.
I cannot speak highly enough of the team, the food, the quality of the care and the cleanliness of all public and private rooms
Whenever I bring anyone to visit Mum, they are all of the same opinion.
Over Christmas, there was so much fun and laughter. The presents that all the residents received were picked with care and suitability.

I believe that we are very fortunate in our decision with Mortain Place and I love to see the smile on my mum's face when I come to visit.

Helping a client get settled into Mortain Place. Staff were friendly, accommodating, patient and understanding. I spoke to a resident's daughter who visited regularly, she had nothing but praise for everyone who worked there. The enrichment staff actually brought in a bouncy castle, which I couldn't believe! They loved it, then invited some of the staff's small relatives to make the most of it, which I thought was a lovely touch.

My sister had a reunion party for twelve friends and the home could not have been more accommodating. From the manager down to the kitchen staff and all attending staff were extremely welcoming to her guests. We had coffee served in a separate room so we did not upset the other residents. The lunch was beautifully served, the table linen immaculate, with fresh flowers on the table. Absolute full marks to everyone for making all concerned, visitors and family feel they were special.

I have just attended a lunch party given by my aunt, a resident, for 10 friends, and 3 associated carers. The event was excellent and very much appreciated by everyone there, and especially by my aunt. All of the staff involved participated in the organisation and running of the event with a high degree of enthusiasm and went out of their way to make the event very special, including the organisation of a visit from people they knew from outside who were relevant to the event. That was an incredibly thoughtful touch. Throughout the whole event, staff dropped in to say hello to the visitors and they managed very well and with very good humour last-minute changes in numbers and arrangements. The 'outside world' was brought into Barchester Mortain Place Care Homeand my aunt was able to host an event just as she would have previously in her own house. Thank you very much.

CQC reports are true read them! There is a lack of care and safety in this home. The manager holds a video call for staff, leaving vulnerable residents not cared for, ask yourself is this OK? I have written reviews that have not been posted, many good staff have left, agency staff used more, to cover understaffing. Neglected vulnerable residents, basic care needs not met, don’t be fooled by many reviews, staff and residents writing them as asked to by management.

The care home is friendly and welcoming and the decor and rooms are excellent, more like a hotel than a home. The photographs in the corridor make it seem welcoming, more like a home from home, this is helpful for residents who have had to leave their own homes and make the change to live somewhere different for whatever reason.

From being unable to get in or out of bed when I arrived, thanks to the care and attention of the nurses, I can now get in and out of bed, walk around the room, sometimes without a Zimmer, clean my teeth, shave and change my clothes. I can now walk to the dining room to join my wife for lunch. Breakfast and dinner are always delivered to me and I am never rushed to finish my meals.

It is with a sad heart that my sister and I have to move our father to nursing care, from Mortain Place. He has been there for the last 19 months and calls it 'home'. He has been extremely well looked after by all of the wonderful staff there. Myself as a constant visitor to the care home, I have always been made to feel welcome, and there is always someone there to talk to about Dad. A big warm thank you to everyone, especially the senior staff.

Mortain Place has been a godsend to myself and my brother for my mother's care. It is an extremely special place, with wonderful staff, gorgeous layout/rooms, lovely food and multiple activities. Never once in her entire time staying with Mortain have either my brother or myself been in any way worried or concerned with her care.
I have visited the home at all times of the day and evening, from Monday through to Sunday and never seen anything other than happy and relaxed residents.
The staff are always on hand and whenever there have been difficulties with my mother's mood, the higher level of close monitoring has been great. The staff go over and beyond, preempting any potential issues. There is also very close cooperation with the nearby doctor's surgery for medical issues.

Thank you so so much to all the wonderful staff.

My father has been in Mortain for 19 months and from the start was made to feel very welcome and at home. The staff all went out of their way to ease him into his new way of life in a care home. He had recently been bereaved. I’ve never had any cause for concern over his health or well-being. His room is nice, comfortable and spotlessly clean. His sometimes fussy meal requirements, and constant need for 'a cuppa’ are cheerfully fulfilled. The staff, in particular the senior carers, are all very kind and personable. They treat my father as an individual, not just as one of the collective residents. His wishes are respected, and his dignity is maintained. My queries have always been dealt with effectively and efficiently, and the manager is generally always available. It is with sadness that we’ve got to move my father to a nursing home. My sister and I, as well as our dad, are sorry to say goodbye to the care team at Mortain and I thank you all for taking such kind care of him.

My mum was here for almost 4 years. The first two years were great. Fabulous staff and management. Then went downhill. All caring and loving staff left, and management changed. No trust at all in the care and well-being of my mum. Meetings and conversations had with management were ignored or turned around to make our complaints look like lies. My mum had 3 safeguards placed on her, then a 4th one put in place up to the day we finally got her out of there, to a caring properly managed dementia care home. My mum had injuries not reported, and care and hygiene were poor. Good carers left and would never return. They were disgusted by what had evolved, from a lovely place to a nightmare. Constant worries that my mum would be okay each day. No quality of care or trust. Sadly we did have it in the beginning but was totally blown apart these last 18 months. Don't be fooled by the nice deco. It's the care and empathy that counts.
