My father has been in Mortain for 19 months and from the start was made to feel very welcome and at home. The staff all went out of their way to ease him into his new way of life in a care home. He had recently been bereaved. I’ve never had any cause for concern over his health or well-being. His room is nice, comfortable and spotlessly clean. His sometimes fussy meal requirements, and constant need for 'a cuppa’ are cheerfully fulfilled. The staff, in particular the senior carers, are all very kind and personable. They treat my father as an individual, not just as one of the collective residents. His wishes are respected, and his dignity is maintained. My queries have always been dealt with effectively and efficiently, and the manager is generally always available. It is with sadness that we’ve got to move my father to a nursing home. My sister and I, as well as our dad, are sorry to say goodbye to the care team at Mortain and I thank you all for taking such kind care of him.
Thank you so much for your kind words. We were sorry to see your father leave us but hope he has settled well into his new home.

My mum was here for almost 4 years. The first two years were great. Fabulous staff and management. Then went downhill. All caring and loving staff left, and management changed. No trust at all in the care and well-being of my mum. Meetings and conversations had with management were ignored or turned around to make our complaints look like lies. My mum had 3 safeguards placed on her, then a 4th one put in place up to the day we finally got her out of there, to a caring properly managed dementia care home. My mum had injuries not reported, and care and hygiene were poor. Good carers left and would never return. They were disgusted by what had evolved, from a lovely place to a nightmare. Constant worries that my mum would be okay each day. No quality of care or trust. Sadly we did have it in the beginning but was totally blown apart these last 18 months. Don't be fooled by the nice deco. It's the care and empathy that counts.

Thank you so much for your lovely review. It is a pleasure looking after Dad. He is thriving and as you said enjoying life here at Mortain place. He is getting involved in all aspects of life in our home and it is lovely to see him so happy.

My mum went to Mortain Place in early January for some respite following an illness over Christmas. Soon after her arrival, it became clearer that she was very unwell and in fact, had terminal cancer that was only diagnosed while she was there. We are a large family of medics and Mum was a retired nurse, so we recognise good care when we see it. We had not expected Mum to need end-of-life care there but faced with this diagnosis, the team at Mortain Place said they would look after her until she died. I cannot thank the team there enough for the support they gave Mum. Everyone was incredibly kind and Mum was looked after with dignity, laughter and kindness throughout. We are a large family and Mum had lots of friends, all of whom wanted to see her. This was all made possible by the team and nothing was too much bother. Thank you all for looking after Mum and us. We will never forget your kindness. Barchester, please look after those staff, as the home is nothing without them.
Thank you so much for your kind words. It was our pleasure to look after Mum until she passed. We pride ourselves on treating those we care for with dignity and kindness. We have passed your comments on to our team.

My aunt has been a resident at Mortain Place over the last 2 months, as respite following a fall at home. From my first phone call, the staff and management team have been very responsive and my aunt has received great care and attention, giving me complete peace of mind. Any queries or concerns I had were dealt with quickly. The staff have been excellent helping my aunt with personal care, while she had a broken wrist. She was always in great spirits whenever I visited and was always up and dressed. She has enjoyed the food and has had chiropody care and a haircut whilst being a resident. I'm very grateful indeed for the care and attention my aunt has received and would certainly recommend Mortain Place.
Thank you so much. Peace of mind is so important when placing a loved one into care. We are pleased we were able to give you that. Yes please do feel to recommend us to others.
All the carers are hardworking, friendly and extremely helpful for my sister's needs. Problems are dealt with promptly and my sister has made friends and is extremely happy in her home.

Mum took her time to settle in and presented a challenge to the staff. This challenge was met with professionalism and a high level of support. As a family, we have absolutely no regrets in selecting this establishment. Indeed, we have nothing but the highest praise for all of the staff from management to housekeeping.

Mum is well cared for at Mortain Place Care Home. In January she lost a lot of weight, picked up by the carers in their regular checks. They now make sure Mum eats her meals and are giving her regular protein shakes. Mum put on half of the lost weight within a week.

Hi, I'm Rebecca (known by everyone as Bex), and I am the activities lead here at Mortain Place.
Delighted to have been declared a Divisional Winner, Activities Coordinator of the Year, South East Division, Barchester Healthcare Awards, July 2026. Now a finalist in the Nationals, a very proud moment for me.
I have worked in similar roles in the past, and thoroughly enjoy spreading joy and positivity throughout the home. My favourite activities with the residents are exercises with music, word games, and really getting to know them. I enjoy thinking outside the box and coming up with new ideas to enrich resident wellbeing, making this chapter of their lives fabulous.
I thrive on being friendly, approachable, bubbly and busy. In my spare time, I enjoy being active. A few facts about me: My favourite colours are Green and Purple; I love fruit and host a radio show on Radio DGH (District General Hospital) Eastbourne.
