Overall experience is very good. All staff are very pleasant and helpful; although it would be helpful if everyone wore a name badge.
I have had a few issues with laundry items going missing even though my name has been sewn in all items. Also could clothes by hung up or folded when back from laundry
as my daughter has to tidy my clothes.

My father is very happy with his home at Birkdale Tower Lodge. He is well looked after by the staff, all of whom take the time and trouble to ensure that all is well.
I find communication to be excellent whenever there is a need. It is very reassuring knowing that Dad is happy and well looked after.

My mother came here initially as respite care but it quickly became apparent that the care she was receiving was beyond our expectations. All the staff have shown a fantastic, caring nature and have made her feel she is at home. I cannot fault all the staff, they are just fantastic. Birkdale Tower Lodge
has taken a huge stress off our shoulders in my mother's transfer to a care home.

My mum was admitted to hospital with a nasty chest infection from home. It was clear that there were new needs in hospital and I needed urgent respite for my mother. I called Birkdale Tower Lodge - they assessed her the next day and agreed to her going to the Lodge immediately. This took a lot of stress
away from me. My mother really enjoyed her stay and decided she did not want to go back to living independently. We are so pleased that she is very settled and happy. Thanks.

My dad has been here a couple of times for respite and now is staying here permanently. I could not find a more caring, kind or better-run place for my dad to live. He is always complimentary about the care he receives and the fabulous food! I am more than happy that he lives here and couldn't want
for anywhere better.

My uncle has been a resident on Ambrose since August 2023.
I cannot fault the care and attention shown towards him and ourselves as his family. He is treated with respect and the care workers are kind and compassionate. I wish there were more of them. It's not an easy job and I feel they, and residents,
would benefit from a higher level of staffing ratio.
The reception staff management are welcoming and professional. Five star!

My mother was brought to Birkdale Tower Lodge after a stay in hospital and in need of extra care suffering from dementia. From the moment we arrived, it was as if Mum had another bigger family to look after her. All the staff are very friendly, knowledgeable and caring, and treat us with great respect.
I am confident Mum is getting the best care possible!

I am delighted with both the care and facilities at Birkdale Tower Lodge. The staff are all highly competent but perhaps most importantly very caring with my mum. It is almost a home from home, especially since seeing China (a dog) some days as my mother loves dogs. When I ring for updates on her wellbeing,
staff are always up to date and able to give feedback. Mum is encouraged to take part in activities but is a little reluctant at the moment. Hopefully she will in the future.
Reply from Marie Parkinson, Lodge Manager at Birkdale Tower Thank you for your lovely kind words, we have a lovely team, in all areas of the home that care about our residents, even China the dog! Current Review Score: 9.8 (9.804)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 9.8 (9.804) out of 10 for Birkdale Tower is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  1. The Average Rating is 4.8 out of 5 from 27 Reviews in the last 24 months.
  2. The score for the number of positive Reviews is 5.0 out of 5 from 26 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  1. 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months. The Average Rating of 4.804 for Birkdale Tower is calculated as follows: ( (272 Excellents x 5) + (38 Goods x 4) + (1 Satisfactorys x 3) + (2 Poors x 2) + (4 Very Poors x 1) ) ÷ 317 Ratings = 4.804
  2. 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5'). The 5 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Birkdale Tower is based on 26 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    1. 4 points are available for the first 20 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews, 0.05 Points for the next five Positive Reviews, and finally 0.025 Points for the next ten Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.050, 7th = 0.050, 8th = 0.050, 9th = 0.050, 10th = 0.050, 11th = 0.025, 12th = 0.025, 13th = 0.025, 14th = 0.025, 15th = 0.025, 16th = 0.025, 17th = 0.025, 18th = 0.025, 19th = 0.025, 20th = 0.025) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 = 4
    2. 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 55 registered maximum number of service users is 11, which has been reached with 26 Positive reviews. Points = 1
  3. When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.
  4. If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.

Job Title: Registered Manager

I am so proud to be the manager of Birkdale Tower. I’m extremely passionate about providing our 5-star luxury experience to some of the most vulnerable in our society, because they truly deserve the best and are just in need of help.

My favourite part of my role is getting to know each individual and understanding what approaches work best for their unique needs. I take real pride in creating positive, person-centred experiences that make a genuine difference in people’s daily lives. I love coming to work, not knowing what new challenges await and what new people I can meet.

I've worked in care all my working life since I was 18, but it was sort of a family business; my mother and her mother were care home managers, so it was an extremely natural decision. I worked hard, climbing the ladder and achieved my first managerial role when I was 29, achieving my first goal with CQC at the same age. I think what makes a good manager in our industry is someone who sets the tone for compassion and quality. It’s about supporting staff so they can provide the best quality of care, fostering teamwork, and always leading with empathy and understanding.

Outside of work, I’m a proud dad of 2 and a bit of an adventurer. I love nothing more than to don my walking boots and go to the Lakes or Wales. If I can drag along my daughters Bella and Gracie, then even better!
