Having now moved Mum to another care home at half the price, we've realised that Birkdale Tower Lodge is not worth the extortionate fees that they charge.
The time Mum spent there, 9 months, she was well cared for and well looked after, but the management and finance department leaves a lot to be desired! I understand that they now have a new manager in place, so this will hopefully improve things and the staff might now "get along" better than when Mum was there. I know that these things are supposed to be kept behind closed doors, but Mum was quick to notice when the staff are unhappy at work.
The food was a little too fancy for Mum and being 94 years old, she would have liked more simple cooked meals, but I realise this is a personal choice - but it comes to something when the chef is off and one of the staff have to go to the local chippy to get everyone fish and chips!

Despite numerous emails, we have now waited 10 weeks for them to refund Mums spending money to her - not acceptable.

Luxury home. Mum is safe and secure. The staff are caring and great food. The management team are very professional. So happy that mum is settled. It's a relief that I don't have to worry about her. It's the best home in Birkdale and it's golf-themed, mum likes the little pitch and putt they've got outside.

A second respite stay for Mum. She thoroughly enjoys her stays and says she is always well cared for, entertained and looked after. The surroundings are lovely and she is looking forward to another stay in May.

Thank you for taking the time to put on a review of our wonderful Lodge and staff. There is always lots to do at our Lodges, and the care is second to none, obviously proved by Mum wanting to return for her "holiday" to our home from home.

Look forward to greeting her back here again, and will let the staff know how happy you are with everything.

My good friend moved into Birkdale Tower Lodge in May. I must say how happy she is. Since moving into the home she has made friends and has the much-needed help and support that she needed when she needs it. The home is beautiful and maintains very high standards. The food is delicious and my friend enjoys it very much. There are activities to keep people busy however my friend isn't one for always joining in. Staff are very friendly and I can hear them talk with her when we are on the phone.

Mum absolutely loves living at Birkdale Tower Lodge. Every time I speak with her she is happy and full of praise for all the wonderful staff. Even though it has been difficult this year with visiting restrictions and lockdown, staff have kept me informed of what's going on we had video calls and now visit in a dedicated visitors room which is fantastic.

Reply from Gill Thompson, Lodge Manager at Birkdale Tower

Thank you, David, for your kind words. We appreciate that this year has been very unpredictable and as we continue to live through this difficult time of COVID-19. To receive a lovely review is much appreciated. We understand how hard it has been for families not being able to be with their loved...

Liam KenwrightJob Title:Registered Manager

I am so proud to be the manager of Birkdale Tower. I’m extremely passionate about providing our 5-star luxury experience to some of the most vulnerable in our society, because they truly deserve the best and are just in need of help.

My favourite part of my role is getting to know each individual and understanding what approaches work best for their unique needs. I take real pride in creating positive, person-centred experiences that make a genuine difference in people’s daily lives. I love coming to work, not knowing what new challenges await and what new people I can meet.

I've worked in care all my working life since I was 18, but it was sort of a family business; my mother and her mother were care home managers, so it was an extremely natural decision. I worked hard, climbing the ladder and achieved my first managerial role when I was 29, achieving my first goal with CQC at the same age. I think what makes a good manager in our industry is someone who sets the tone for compassion and quality. It’s about supporting staff so they can provide the best quality of care, fostering teamwork, and always leading with empathy and understanding.

Outside of work, I’m a proud dad of 2 and a bit of an adventurer. I love nothing more than to don my walking boots and go to the Lakes or Wales. If I can drag along my daughters Bella and Gracie, then even better!
