My mother moved into Sutton Park Grange following the death of my father. She was very depressed and didn't want to eat or speak to anybody. I cannot believe the change in her! With the help of the wonderful staff and amazing chefs, she is now eating and socialising with other residents and carers.
She hasn't taken part in any activities yet. There is a good range of activities, and I'm sure with the help of the wonderful staff, she'll soon be joining in.

It is lovely to see your Mum settling in here at Sutton Park Grange, chatting to other residents in the Bistro, and gradually making new friends, and she enjoyed the Coronation celebrations we had.

Going into Sutton Park Grange for two weeks was my 94-year-old mother's first experience of respite, and she was very apprehensive beforehand. However, when we arrived, the staff were very welcoming to both Mom and ourselves. Mom's first impressions were very positive. While we were settling Mom into
her room, which was beautifully appointed, complete with en-suite, several staff from various departments came and introduced themselves and welcomed Mom.
We rang after a couple of days and were reassured Mom had settled well and chatted with other residents.
When Mom came home, she could not wait to tell everyone how lovely the place was, how kind the staff were, and most importantly to her, how lovely the food was, with lots of choices.
We were really pleased with all aspects of care given to Mom, and Mom said she would be very happy to go back again in the future. We could not have asked for a better outcome.
Reply from Karen Handley, Home Admissions Advisor at Sutton Park GrangeThank you for both choosing Sutton Park Grange for your Mum's respite stay and for taking the time to write such a wonderful review.
It was a pleasure to have your Mum to stay with us, and we look forward to welcoming her back again in a couple of months.

Overall, good experience. Stay was for six weeks of respite care, then Dad returned home. The staff were attentive and caring, Dad was reasonably happy but became somewhat bored. This is mainly associated with his person, but more relevant activities would have been a benefit. The exception is Dad will
return again on a respite basis.
Reply from Karen Handley, Home Admissions Advisor at Sutton Park GrangeIt was a pleasure to have Dad stay with us, especially as it was at a sad time for him.
We look forward to welcoming him back for a further respite stay soon, especially as we now we have more gents living here and will aim to provide more relevant activities.

I am extremely happy with the care and attention that my friend and ex-neighbour has received whilst spending a week here at Sutton Park Grange. Every attention to detail has been achieved in this wonderful care facility, the food is amazing, and all the staff are pleasant and very professional. Thanks

Mum found moving into a care home challenging, but from the start, staff have done their best to make the transition as easy as possible. She tells me the staff are all very kind and the food is good with wine with her meals if she wants it. I have observed both to be true. Mum has been at Sutton Park
since it opened. Although Mum would prefer her laundry to be done by me, I have always found it is done much more quickly than I would have done it and is beautifully ironed. The environment is clean and pleasant. A very wide range of activities are provided all day every day, and I can see from the Facebook photos Mum participates and enjoys them. As family members, we are always made to feel welcome, as is our dog, who Mum loves to see. Of special note is the intergenerational activity with preschool children, which I attend with my granddaughter. She loves the songs and games, and my mum enjoys proudly pointing out her daughter and great-granddaughter to other residents.
Reply from Karen Handley, Home Admissions Advisor at Sutton Park GrangeThank you so much for your lovely review, in particular, about the laundry, which the housekeepers work hard to achieve, and we agree that the music classes are a weekly highlight for both the residents and children alike.

I enjoyed my stay very much at Sutton Park Grange. The food was excellent, and the staff were very friendly and kind. My bedroom was very comfortable and overlooked the garden. I loved the visit from the ponies, which came into my bedroom and the fact that my little dog could come and visit me while
I was there. Only one criticism, my leg covering, which needs to be changed weekly, was overlooked (even though there were several reminders).

My only reservations are times of personal bathing and some of the laundry care. Particularly when residents have beautiful knitwear. I know you have other residents, some very poorly, but if people like a set routine, I feel it could be arranged. I am happy to explain to someone personally.
The other
issue is the TV.
Reply from Karen Handley, Home Admissions Advisor at Sutton Park GrangeThank you for your review, and our aim is to offer relationship-centred care to all our residents, and we would be very happy to meet you at a convenient time to ensure we can meet these requests so please do give us a call at the home so we can arrange a care review.

My mum stayed at Sutton Park Grange for two weeks; we needed to go away and looked at homes around the Sutton area. Sutton Park Grange was way out ahead in terms of comfort, care and facilities. Karen Handley came to our house to see and assess my mum, taking time to discuss what my mum's likes and
dislikes were and to get a feeling of how my mum lived. Unfortunately, she has advanced dementia so is unable to speak herself. I thought it was great how much time was taken to see my mum at home. We also went to the home, and I was very impressed with the tour around the home. The room my mum was in was fantastic! It was more like a five-star hotel room than a care home. The food is lovely, different menus daily, coffee and cake bar to boot! The home has a cinema room, gardens to relax in, daily activities etc. The staff are all fantastic; they do a brilliant job. Thank you for taking the time to look after my mum - she came home in better shape than when she went in!

Sutton Park Grange is a lovely care home. My partner was very happy there. He loved the food, and the ambience and thought the staff were extremely kind and caring. His bedroom was relaxing and clean. He would be happy to stay at the residential home again, and we are hoping he will be able to early
next year.
Only one disappointment, he fell the day before he was due to leave the home and hurt his head. I was unable to drive, after an operation, so couldn’t take him to the hospital. Apparently, there was no one available at the home to take him, so a friend of ours drove him there and stayed with him until he was discharged. Otherwise, care and support would have been rated excellent.
Reply from Karen Handley, Home Admissions Advisor at Sutton Park GrangeIt was a pleasure to have your partner stay here for a respite stay, and thank you for taking the time to write a review.
With regards to his fall, we were advised by the ambulance service that due to the long delay at A&E on that day, he would more likely be seen sooner if a family member took him to A&E than a carer in an ambulance.
We look forward to welcoming him back to Sutton Park Grange again early next year.

I really was made to feel welcome right from the start to the end.
Staff very friendly, helpful and professional.
The standards are beyond better than expected; they are outstanding.
I felt that my service user was in a safe place on respite and would get the quality of care they need.
They treated
me with respect and made me feel welcome.
If I wasn't already in a job that I adore and enjoy, I would like to have worked there.
Fresh smell, tidy and kept to very high standards; it's like a luxury holiday retreat, somewhere I would highly recommend for anyone to either work there or be a resident, it is a safe place and professional, it's outstanding, 10-stars or more if I had the option, my other visits were just as good - top rating.

I have to say, from the moment I went to view this care home for my mother, I knew it was the ideal place for her to be. Yes, it is expensive, but when you want the best for an elderly relative, this is the perfect place. The facilities are second to none, the building interior is so welcoming, colourful
and bright. I remember smiling when I first walked in and being greeted by very friendly staff. The caring staff themselves are a wonderful bunch of people; they have looked after our mother in a friendly, professional, dignified and caring manner, and my mother has become very friendly with quite a few of them.
Being a new care home, and a new building in its own right, there are a few issues, plumbing in the bathroom and the second set of main entrance doors, which can be too accessible for my liking, especially when you have a resident with questionable logic.
On the whole, it is a lovely home to visit a relative, and for a relative to stay long term - 5-stars from me.
Reply from Karen Handley, Home Admissions Advisor at Sutton Park GrangeThank you for taking the time to write such a glowing review, particularly about our care team, who we agree with you are a wonderful bunch.
The plumbing issues are now resolved, and please be assured that the entrance doors are turned to keypad entry and exit only when reception is not manned to ensure we keep residents safe.

Feedback from residents here has been that the larger portions we served to them felt overwhelming and they would prefer to ask for more if they wished. Current Review Score: 9.9 (9.885)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 9.9 (9.885) out of 10 for Sutton Park Grange is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  1. The Average Rating is 4.9 out of 5 from 40 Reviews in the last 24 months.
  2. The score for the number of positive Reviews is 5.0 out of 5 from 39 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  1. 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months. The Average Rating of 4.885 for Sutton Park Grange is calculated as follows: ( (432 Excellents x 5) + (36 Goods x 4) + (8 Satisfactorys x 3) + (1 Poors x 2) ) ÷ 477 Ratings = 4.885
  2. 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5'). The 5 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Sutton Park Grange is based on 39 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    1. 4 points are available for the first 20 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews, 0.05 Points for the next five Positive Reviews, and finally 0.025 Points for the next ten Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.050, 7th = 0.050, 8th = 0.050, 9th = 0.050, 10th = 0.050, 11th = 0.025, 12th = 0.025, 13th = 0.025, 14th = 0.025, 15th = 0.025, 16th = 0.025, 17th = 0.025, 18th = 0.025, 19th = 0.025, 20th = 0.025) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 = 4
    2. 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 64 registered maximum number of service users is 12.8, which has been reached with 39 Positive reviews. Points = 1
  3. When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.
  4. If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.

I help families who are looking for care for their loved ones, but often, most people have no idea where to start. This can be an emotionally difficult time for the families, and I take my time to understand what their needs are, find out about their relative, the life they have lived and provide them with the relevant details on all aspects of the care we offer. I will then organise the assessment, paperwork & move in, before handing over to our amazing care team who help the residents settle into their new lives here at Sutton Park Grange.

My role as Well-being & Lifestyle Coordinator is to organise meaningful activities for the residents, which are tailored to dementia where appropriate.

I used to run a surf and yoga retreat in Sri Lanka before moving back to the UK, where I worked in a nursing home as a care assistant and activities coordinator for three years before coming to join the team at Sutton Park Grange.

Out of work, I enjoy walking in Sutton Park and practicing Yoga.

I also play the Handpan and like playing this for the residents, too!

What I Do
I’m responsible for cooking delicious meals for our residents, and I love welcoming their families to join us for special occasions in our Celebration Room. I plan our menus to meet residents’ nutritional needs while reflecting their individual likes and dislikes. All ingredients are ordered daily, and my team and I freshly prepare every dish.

My Experience
I have been working in the Care Sector for 20 years as a chef. I have entered and won many competitions over the years.

About Me
I love being with my family and friends in my spare time. I live with my partner, grown-up children and my little dog Henry. I love to travel and visit different countries. My hobbies are walking my dog, going to the gym, doing yoga, and meeting friends for brunch.
