My brother was fortunate enough to be placed in Lynx unit from Feb 2025. I have been meaning to submit this review since then. The minute I walked in, I was totally aware of all staff clearly being proud of belonging to this team. They worked so hard to make life better for my brother. They kept me informed. He was always kept smart, beard trimmed, room lovely and he really enjoyed his food. You would expect this to be the case of all care homes. In my experience, this isn't so. However, beyond this, Lynx unit staff gave him dignity, friendship, laughter & love. I have been blown away by this. They also had hope for him to be the best he could be and pushed for his very best care. They treated him like family, which I found both extraordinary and moving. They brought the best out of him during this time and gave me access to my brother again in a way which brought joy & peace to us both. Even since his death, they have been nothing but wonderful. We are forever grateful.

It was a pleasure and a privilege caring from your brother, we wanted to ensure his last few months were enjoyable, and he felt safe and cared for. We miss him and your family very much.

My mum moved into Wheldale Heights in January this year, and it has changed both of our lives for the better. My mum's care needs are complex as she suffers with Huntington's Disease and before Wheldale, my mum didn't have the appropriate level of care and her quality of life was suffering because of it. Now, the care my mum receives from the staff at Wheldale is out of this world. Her quality of life has improved ten fold and she is so happy and so settled. The facilities are spotless and always smell fresh, and the staff go above and beyond for the residents. Special shout out to the activity team who always keep my mum busy taking her different places and treating her like one of their friends. The staff really do care here, they put the residents first, they keep me updated with any concerns and I know she's in the safest place. It's been life changing for both of us! I am so grateful I can be a daughter to my mum again, all thanks to the incredible staff.

My mum has been at Wheldale Heights for about 8 months and I couldn't ask for better care. Staff know her well and treat her like family. My mum has dementia and is non verbal, but staff anticipate her needs as well as I do. The meals are excellent and the whole building is spotless. I phone often and they always have time to talk to me, I also get regular updates. They've even taken Mum out for the day, which is fantastic. No one wants to put their loved ones in care but I couldn't ask for a safer or more caring place. They are amazing people.

Cannot speak highly enough of the staff here. The care and attention my father receives is second to none. Nothing is too much trouble. The facilities and building in general cannot be faulted. The food here is a really good standard. All round very pleased with service.

Initially on moving, there were some concerns and worries, however, after meeting and sharing concerns we were supported and actions were taken. Over time we have built relationships with the staff and found them to be very welcoming and attentive, they will always make us aware of any incident keeping us up to date. The staff are friendly and the home is exceptionally clean and smells fresh. There are good staffing levels and over the time my dad has been within the home there have been changes to his medication for the better. The only issue is around laundry and clothes shrinking, but I know when I leave I do not need to worry about the care and support my dad is given.

We are always aware of activities and where my dad has been and we are very grateful to the lady in activities to spend the time with him.

Thank you for taking the time to leave a review. It's great to hear that the home listened to your concerns and has put actions in place to make improvements to the care and support for your dad. My dad has been at Wheldale for almost a year now and I am thankful that he was able to be offered a place there. As it had recently opened when he arrived, there were initially some teething problems whilst a regular team of staff was being established. However, any concerns I had were listened to and dealt with. The staff genuinely care about my dad and he has a fantastic relationship with some of them. When I visit the atmosphere is lovely and the residents are happy, I take my children to visit their grandad and I have no concerns with them visiting there whatsoever, I feel that the staff know us as well as they know my dad. Whilst it was heartbreaking to accept that Dad was unable to look after himself due to advanced dementia and needed to be in a care home, I am grateful to all the staff at Wheldale for making it his home.

The care home is tidy and newly refurbished. The staff were helpful. But after a few weeks, none were left and it was all agency staff. They couldn't deal with the equipment. They're not equipped to deal with residents with breathing-related illnesses. We've moved him to another home where he'll be safe.

I am so thankful that my dad has finally arrived at the perfect place for him! After such heartache and distress as a daughter, witnessing my dad suffer so much due to advanced dementia, I cannot thank the staff enough for their support and dedication. I have been totally overwhelmed by each and every member of staff that we have met. They have built very special bonds with my dad and engaged him in valuable activities. On top of that, each and every person has gone above and beyond to support us as a family. To all of the staff, you are super human in my opinion and I am forever grateful! Thank you.

I am very pleased with the care my grandad is receiving at Wheldale Heights. The staff are extremely friendly and caring and cannot do enough to support both the residents and their families. It is hard for any family to have their loved one in care. However, the fact that your loved one is being cared for by people as lovely as the staff at Wheldale, makes it much easier. All of the staff members from admin to management and nursing staff go above and beyond and show a genuine interest in the people in their care. I cannot thank them enough for ensuring my grandad is safe, well cared for and happy.

My husband who has Huntington's Disease has been one of the first residents at Wheldale Heights. From day one his presentation has greatly improved, he is more trusting of the staff than previously and allows them to aid him in all aspects of his daily routine and personal care. From the administrative staff to all the care team, they have been absolutely fantastic with him. If there have been any issues I have been kept fully informed and for the first time in a long time feel able to release the reins for someone else to take over and care for him.
Wheldale Heights itself is a brand new building and is absolutely amazing. It has all the amenities you would expect for this type of establishment. My husband's room can only be described as fantastic. It is a large ensuite room giving him the privacy he needs and the space to move about in comfort.
I would highly recommend Wheldale to anyone who needs a service of this type.

Thank you to all the staff and keep up the brilliant work.
