The Review Score of 9.3 (maximum of 10) for Albany Lodge Nursing Home is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.
a) The Average Rating is 4.3 out of 5 from 38 Reviews over all time. This Average Rating is also the rating value for Albany Lodge Nursing Home in Google's Search Results - more info
b) The score for the number of positive Reviews is 5 out of 5 from 29 positive Reviews in the last 12 months.
a) 5 Points are available for the Average Rating of all Reviews over all time. For each review the Care Home / service is rated Excellent, Good, Satisfactory, Poor or Very Poor on a number of areas eg Staff, Management etc. The Care Home receives points for each rating as follows: Excellent = 5. Good = 4. Satisfactory = 3. Poor = 2. Very Poor = 1. These points are added up and then divided by the total number of completed ratings to generate the average rating.
The Average Rating of 4.261 for Albany Lodge Nursing Home is calculated as follows: ( (196 Excellents x 5) + (164 Goods x 4) + (71 Satisfactorys x 3) + (4 Poors x 2) + (1 Very Poors x 1) ) ÷ 436 Ratings = 4.261
b) 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 12 months. If there are no Positive Reviews in the last 12 months, then 2.5 points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 2 years. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with 'Extremely Likely' or 'Likely' in answer to the question 'How likely are you to recommend this Care Home to friends and family if they needed similar care or treatment?'
The 5 points available are broken down as follows:
4 points are available for the first 5 Positive Reviews, 3 points for the first Positive Review and then 0.25 Points for each of the next 4 Positive Reviews.
1 point is available for reaching a target number of Positive Reviews based on 20% of the number of registered maximum number of service users. If the target is partially reached then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home with 50 registered maximum number of service users has a target of 10 Positive Reviews, if it has 10 or more Positive Reviews it will receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews will receive 0.7 points.
If there are no Positive Reviews in the last 12 months, then 2.5 points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 2 years. The calculation is the same as above, except the points are divided by 2.
The 5 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Albany Lodge Nursing Home is based on 29 positive Reviews in the last 12 months and is calculated as follows:
3 + 0.25 + 0.25 + 0.25 + 0.25 = 4
Target of 20 positive Reviews (100 registered maximum number of service users ÷ 5). 29 Reviews ÷ 20 Target Reached = 1
When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.

1, The food has improved, but sometimes is not good. The fact that an alternative can be requested is good.
2, It would be nice if the tables were properly laid in every meal and the American cloth changed sometimes.
3, The noise of loud talking etc. is sometimes overwhelming. Language can be a problem.

Aileen Nimmo, Sales & Marketing at Albany Lodge Nursing Home responded to this review on 18 Apr 2018:
“Thank you very much for your feedback on the issues you raised recently on this forum. As you know we met today to discuss them in depth and to understand jointly how we could improve, which mainly focused on the meal time experience. It was good to hear that “95%” of the time you are extremely satisfied with the meal provision and choice offered, however, you feel responsible to speak up for other residents who may not “always be able to express their needs”. You mentioned the tablecloths have had the same design since December, I have asked Chef to order new and rotate to give a feeling of change. I have also asked our Chef to spend time now away from the kitchen and supervise the serving of each meal which will hopefully improve its delivery to the table. I have also acquired a “mealtime audit” which allows the management to monitor any shortfalls and address them immediately. One other point you mentioned was that staff are sometimes a little bit “Loud” when they are trying to co-ordinate the servery, this I agree will need some input from the floor managers to address and resolve.
May I also take this opportunity to thank you for your feedback during our meeting on other aspects of the home, especially its cleanliness. You praised the housekeeping staff for their attention to detail. You also mentioned that you would not ever contemplate moving to another home due to the feeling of security which you get here at Albany Lodge. You also said kind words re the provision of activities which I will pass on.
Thank you very much for sharing your feedback which we need and embrace, it allows us to praise the team here at Albany Lodge who strive every day to meet the needs and expectations of our diverse residents. It also allows us to implement change where needed.”

Sadly mum passed away on the 10/12/17. I can't speak highly enough of the staff who cared for mum. The carers were outstanding with the care and kindness they gave mum.
Thank you very much from all of our family to all the staff and management.

My brother has been here for almost 10 months. During which time we have noticed a good improvement both physically and emotionally. The staff have been very helpful to me and my other brother when we visit and where my brother is concerned they are extremely kind and spend time chatting with him. He is now using a Zimmer Frame and walking which is fantastic.
Thank you so much, Albany Lodge, knowing he is looked after and cared for is so comforting.

All staff that I have come across are really dedicated to what area(s) they are working in.
I can talk to each one with comfort and love for the care they themselves have to go through in this type of care.
I have noticed a smile on their faces which make things easy for me, but for your staffs very good workers and care.

Members of staff very helpful. Good customer service from reception. The establishment is kept clean. My husband is well looked after and appreciates all the hard work of all the workers, and that put my mind at rest. There could be more activities e.g. Exercise classes or board games. To all members of staff, a personal Thank You for all your hard work.

Basic care is good and the home both clean and tidy. However, the interaction between staff and residents is poor. Those residents who spend all or most days of their time in their rooms are isolated. The manager is rarely seen.

Having no previous direct experience of care home living ~ I came here in November 2015 from 2 days in hospital following a collapse at home. Rather than my return to living alone my daughters contacted management of this nursing home who hastily arranged to meet us at the hospital and a 6-week 'respite' at the home followed. It was subsequently extended to ensure care and attention appropriate to my needs and family wishes.

My daughter and I were very impressed at our first visit with the friendly but professional member of staff who showed us the facility. Although the room was not prepared, this was due to the late and sudden discharge from hospital. However, the staff made every effort to ensure the room was to our satisfaction.
Every member of staff to date has shown considerable care and empathy to our relative and are very receptive to our suggestions.
They all have a friendly disposition and we always feel welcomed and relaxed during our frequent visits.
Our relative appears very comfortable and happy.

There is a pleasant atmosphere in the home and the staff have made our mother welcome.
A friendly greeting awaits people entering the building.
It is good to be able to sit and eat a meal with our mother and to represent her at a recent residents meeting where the young chef discussed improvements that residents would like to see with some of the food dishes.
The relationships between the residents is generally good - especially considering some of their health problems.

1, Shower facilities are poor. The bathroom needs a power clean, particularly around where water drains from the shower. It hasn't been cleaned for a long time.
2, Sometimes common sense is lacking in care i.e. not using shampoo to wash hair, using shower gel when shampoo is provided.

Now that we have had time to adjust to Granddad being in a home, we are able to make a fair assessment of his overall care.
Granddad has stayed alive longer than expected, given there were times when he seemed demotivated to live. I will credit that to the fact that staff have made the efforts to get to know him and provide support which is very frustrating for an elderly person with the inability to speak. Grandad seems settled.

Despite a very difficult and traumatic initial experience for my mother she has now settled and is cared for extremely well. Some care workers go out of their way to create a meaningful relationship with her.
The nursing care is very good with patients, treated with dignity and good humour.

I visit my husband as much as I can (every other day if possible) He is always clean and dressed. The only worry I have is he has no teeth and during his meal times feel it would be so nice if his food that is solid would be cut smaller for him. He does feed himself at the present time. When I am there I help him. The nursing staff are all very good and always acknowledge me when I arrive which is appreciated.

My Dad spent the last week of his life at Albany Lodge. From the initial visit to the home until my dad's passing. The staff were welcoming, caring, sympathetic and attentive to my dad's needs.
The home has a welcoming feel from when you walk through the doors until you leave. Staff check on the residents but also extend their warmth and invitation to visitors.
The home is clean well organised and anyone looking for a quality care home should consider this home. It is up to hotel standard and I viewed many facilities before this and they pale in comparison.
Don't take my word for it call them and view.
