Reviews

7.3 Berkeley House has a Review Score of 7.3 (7.289)

The Review Score of 7.3 (maximum of 10) for Berkeley House is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  • a) The Average Rating is 3.9 out of 5 from 5 Reviews over all time. This Average Rating is also the rating value for Berkeley House in Google's Search Results - more info

  • b) The score for the number of positive Reviews is 3.4 out of 5 from 2 positive Reviews in the last 12 months.

  • a) 5 Points are available for the Average Rating of all Reviews over all time. For each review the Care Home / service is rated Excellent, Good, Satisfactory, Poor or Very Poor on a number of areas eg Staff, Management etc. The Care Home receives points for each rating as follows: Excellent = 5. Good = 4. Satisfactory = 3. Poor = 2. Very Poor = 1. These points are added up and then divided by the total number of completed ratings to generate the average rating.

    The Average Rating of 3.933 for Berkeley House is calculated as follows: ( (18 Excellents x 5) + (25 Goods x 4) + (12 Satisfactorys x 3) + (5 Poors x 2) ) ÷ 60 Ratings = 3.933

  • b) 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 12 months. If there are no Positive Reviews in the last 12 months, then 2.5 points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 2 years. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with 'Extremely Likely' or 'Likely' in answer to the question 'How likely are you to recommend this Care Home to friends and family if they needed similar care or treatment?'

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    1. 4 points are available for the first 5 Positive Reviews, 3 points for the first Positive Review and then 0.25 Points for each of the next 4 Positive Reviews.

    2. 1 point is available for reaching a target number of Positive Reviews based on 20% of the number of registered maximum number of service users. If the target is partially reached then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home with 50 registered maximum number of service users has a target of 10 Positive Reviews, if it has 10 or more Positive Reviews it will receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews will receive 0.7 points.

    3. If there are no Positive Reviews in the last 12 months, then 2.5 points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 2 years. The calculation is the same as above, except the points are divided by 2.

The 3.356 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Berkeley House is based on 2 positive Reviews in the last 12 months and is calculated as follows:

    1. 3 + 0.25 = 3.25

    2. Target of 18.8 positive Reviews (94 registered maximum number of service users ÷ 5). 2 Reviews ÷ 18.8 Target = 0.106

  • When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.

Reviewer Connection to Berkeley House

  • Daughter of Resident/Service User

Mum has her own room with en-suite bathroom. The carers are very professional and caring. They provide daily activities which mum participates in. They also do weekly trips out which residents look forward to.
They also look after her health needs and react quickly if they notice the residents aren't well.
At first, my mum didn't like the idea of going into residential care but now says she is so glad she is there.

The overall standard of care is very good and my Mother really likes living here. She looks well and is thriving. I can now sleep at night knowing she is safe and well cared for.
I would definitely recommend Berkeley House to other people with or without Dementia

Brilliant staff, care and treatment of relatives. I was made to feel welcome at all times. Contact has been very good. My aunt and mum have been helped to settle in and feel at home. I am very happy with all aspects of the service.

At present, the home is under new management and hopefully, it will improve but at the moment it needs improvement.
Staffing levels are poor in some areas and some staff would benefit from dementia training.
Activities to include all residents needs improvement too.
This home is not of the standard I would expect from Bupa.

Thank you for your review. Your comments are extremely important to us and our residents’ health and well-being is our absolute priority. We will discuss your feedback with the home’s manager to help them continually improve their service. The Bupa Customer Care Team.

Berkeley is a clean and presentable home. I feel there are a few minor issues at present, but other problems have been dealt with by the new manager.
The majority of the staff are very friendly, but very busy. This stops a lot of interaction with the residents.
My mother has a good appetite, and has no complaints regarding the food served. Fluids are now more available in the rooms and in the lounge, but many of the residents need encouragement to drink but are unable to serve themselves.
All in all, Berkeley is a comfortable, clean and normally happy care home, and I wouldn't discourage anyone not to apply to live there.
