My husband has had dementia for over 4 years and I was finding it increasingly difficult to look after him at home. Initially I was looking for a placement for 2 weeks respite, mainly for his welfare, as I realised I was unable to provide the level of care needed. My friend and I arrived at Cepen Lodge
one Friday evening without an appointment and we were greeted warmly by the manager. She talked through all our needs and expectations sympathetically. We were then shown the dementia floor - all rooms were light and airy, pleasantly decorated with en suit facilities and a major bonus - a resident cat! I subsequently returned with my husband for an assessment and we decided Cepen Lodge would be an ideal home for him. He settled in really quickly and has never asked to leave. All the staff are helpful, kind, encouraging, treat him with dignity and go the extra mile. The manager and her assistant are exemplary, they have helped me through several crises and concerns. They are always willing to discuss our point of view, to arrive at a satisfactory outcome for all parties, nothing is too much trouble. A recent trip to the zoo was a great success. I feel confident all my husbands needs will be met at Cepen Lodge - he is happy and settled.

Mum has been in Cepen Lodge for three years. With the patience and care from the staff she accepts it as her home and feels settled and secure. She suffers from dementia and remembers four of the carers who look after her but is continually amazed at how kind the "unknown" people are always friendly
and willing to help when she becomes confused. The staff keep me fully informed on health issues and are quick to call in a doctor if they are worried. I leave mum at the end of the day knowing that she is well looked after with plenty to occupy her until my next visit.

The home is always friendly as are the staff. It always appears clean with no smells. The care seems to be pretty good. A shame the staff turnover is so high and the manager has changed a number of times. Recently room cleanliness has not been so good and the residents nails have not been cut. There
has also been a lack of encouragement to join in activities due to lack of activity staff. Overall fairly good and I am always informed of any issues.

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 9.8 (9.777) out of 10 for Barchester Cepen Lodge Care Home is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  1. The Average Rating is 4.8 out of 5 from 25 Reviews in the last 24 months.
  2. The score for the number of positive Reviews is 5.0 out of 5 from 24 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  1. 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months. The Average Rating of 4.777 for Barchester Cepen Lodge Care Home is calculated as follows: ( (235 Excellents x 5) + (49 Goods x 4) + (8 Satisfactorys x 3) ) ÷ 292 Ratings = 4.777
  2. 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5'). The 5 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Barchester Cepen Lodge Care Home is based on 24 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    1. 4 points are available for the first 20 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews, 0.05 Points for the next five Positive Reviews, and finally 0.025 Points for the next ten Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.050, 7th = 0.050, 8th = 0.050, 9th = 0.050, 10th = 0.050, 11th = 0.025, 12th = 0.025, 13th = 0.025, 14th = 0.025, 15th = 0.025, 16th = 0.025, 17th = 0.025, 18th = 0.025, 19th = 0.025, 20th = 0.025) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 = 4
    2. 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 63 registered maximum number of service users is 12.6, which has been reached with 24 Positive reviews. Points = 1
  3. When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.
  4. If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.

Job Title: Senior General Manager Joined: 2022

Hi, my name is Jade, and I am the Senior General Manager here at Cepen Lodge. Welcome to our website!

I started working in care at 18 and knew I’d found my calling. I quickly progressed through various roles and completed all of my qualifications, becoming Home Manager 5 years later. I’m really passionate about high-quality person-centred dementia care, and this has always been really important to me, especially as a Manager, to support my team in providing. My favourite part of the job is meeting all of our residents, and finding out about their life histories and backgrounds – I’ve met some really interesting people throughout my career, and think life history plays such a vital part in someone’s care. Now I hope to use the skills I’ve learned throughout the years to provide excellent care to those at Cepen Lodge.

Please feel free to give me a call or pop in for a visit; we would be more than happy to show you our beautiful home.
