After my dad's passing, we were naturally nervous about how our 91-year-old mum would settle into a care home environment. So we were delighted to find Ashlands Manor Care Centre, where the thoughtful care provided and excellent facilities helped Mum feel quickly at home. The staff are delightful, empathetic
and show real concern for the welfare of the residents. The pressure it has taken off our family, knowing Mum is being so well looked after, is such a relief to us all. Every effort is made to enrich the residents' lives and whenever we visit, it feels like a place Mum can call home.
Reply from Michaela O'Brien, Home Manager at Ashlands Manor Care HomeThank you for your lovely feedback, it is very much appreciated. I will pass this on to the team looking after Mum.

Mum has been in Ashlands Manor for four weeks now. Since the first viewing, we knew Ashlands Manor was for her. It is a beautiful well kept home. A lovely calm and welcoming environment. The staff are amazing, so caring, compassionate, treat everyone with respect, nothing is too much trouble for them.
I can honestly say they go above and beyond what we expected. Being able to personalise Mum's room has made the transition easier. From the meet and greet at the front door, Ashlands never stops giving.

My mother originally came to stay for two weeks of respite and settled very quickly and was happy to stay on as a resident. Mum always says that the staff are very kind and helpful, that nothing is a problem for them. Mum loves the activities with the activities coordinator. Overall the family is very
happy with Mum's care and feels that she is well looked after.

I cannot recommend Ashlands Manor enough. My mother was a resident for a year during which time the staff built wonderfully caring relationships with her. They went above and beyond to accommodate her interests and were endlessly patient and sweet. I observed this again and again with all the residents,
some with more complex needs than my mother's. When the end finally came the staff were so welcoming to our family, we could come and go as we pleased, and they worked with us to ensure mum's final wishes were met. We all have a medical background and none of us could fault the care provided by this home.

I am a live-in carer, my client got a place in your care home to be nearer to family. I went over to see how they were settling in. My first impression was a very friendly and calming place. Beautiful surroundings. Everyone was so friendly, no one was in a panic. The decor was second to none and a lot
of activity for all to do. Had a lovely two days and left my client (friend) very happy and so were they.

The staff on the ground floor are amazing. So kind and caring. The food is lovely and there are non-stop activities. Whenever we visited they offered us refreshments. We really enjoyed sitting in the beautiful garden with all the residents when visiting. The medical and nursing care are always spot
on, as well as the emotional care. Can't fault it!

The care and service at Ashlands are first class! Absolutely, all the staff were wonderful with Mum, so caring and kind. The manager, accountant, receptionists, carers and everyone involved in the running of the centre are very professional and communicative, providing regular email updates. The daily
activities and events are well thought out, and Mum raved about the fabulous meals provided. Mum's carers were wonderful, taking time to sit with her, talk to and comfort her when she needed it. I can't speak highly enough of Mum's time at Ashlands.

The care my mother has received at Ashlands Manor has been excellent. The staff are professional, attentive, and friendly. They welcomed my mother when she first arrived and helped her to settle in quickly. They have a wonderful rapport with her and tailor-make the support to fit her needs. She has
been noticeably less anxious and more content since she came to Ashlands which in turn has been immensely reassuring for her family.

I would recommend and commend without hesitation the caring, professional and thoughtful staff at Ashlands Manor Care Centre which includes carers, catering, cleaning, hospitality, activities, admin, reception and DIY staff, visiting hairdressers and the management, especially during the difficult last
few years of the pandemic. My parents lived initially on the residential floor and then on the nursing care floor. My dad passed away in hospital and my mum passed away at the home where she was given excellent end of life care by all levels of staff, in particular, the nursing staff who displayed the utmost professionalism, love and gentle humour and they also supported our family. Ashlands have strategies to care for their residents treating them as individuals and considering their exact and changing needs and they are very approachable if there are any concerns. The home has a happy, sociable and relaxed atmosphere. Thank you so much Ashlands Manor Care Centre.

Mum has been in Ashlands since March and has settled in very well. Her room is perfect for her and the staff have gone over and above to get to know her. The activities that mum has been doing have really brought her out of herself and helped her get to know other residents. Mum has found her new home.

My father receives excellent care and support. He enjoys participating in the activities programmes, and he seems very happy and content at Ashlands. The staff (carers, receptionists, and support staff) are always very helpful and communicative. Communication from management is less good, and there
have been times during the pandemic when communication was confusing or non-existent.
Reply from Dawn Collett, Commissioning Director at Ashlands Manor Care HomeThank you for taking the time to review our home. I apologise that you feel the communication has been less than good at times during the pandemic, I will certainly feed this back to the team. My husband appears happy and well cared for. Home is always clean and tidy, as is my husband and his room. My only quibble is about communications. I find it highly impossible to phone and receive a reply, so I have given up trying. I would suggest more phones available and a longer time slot available.

Current Review Score: 9.8 (9.761)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 9.8 (9.761) out of 10 for Ashlands Manor Care Home is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  1. The Average Rating is 4.8 out of 5 from 40 Reviews in the last 24 months.
  2. The score for the number of positive Reviews is 5.0 out of 5 from 39 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  1. 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months. The Average Rating of 4.761 for Ashlands Manor Care Home is calculated as follows: ( (393 Excellents x 5) + (71 Goods x 4) + (4 Satisfactorys x 3) + (1 Poors x 2) + (8 Very Poors x 1) ) ÷ 477 Ratings = 4.761
  2. 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5'). The 5 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Ashlands Manor Care Home is based on 39 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    1. 4 points are available for the first 20 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews, 0.05 Points for the next five Positive Reviews, and finally 0.025 Points for the next ten Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.050, 7th = 0.050, 8th = 0.050, 9th = 0.050, 10th = 0.050, 11th = 0.025, 12th = 0.025, 13th = 0.025, 14th = 0.025, 15th = 0.025, 16th = 0.025, 17th = 0.025, 18th = 0.025, 19th = 0.025, 20th = 0.025) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 = 4
    2. 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 57 registered maximum number of service users is 11.4, which has been reached with 39 Positive reviews. Points = 1
  3. When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.
  4. If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.

Job Title: Home Manager

Hello, my name is Octavia, and I’m delighted to introduce myself as the newly promoted Home Manager at Ashlands Manor Care Centre. I began my journey in healthcare back in 2000 as a student nurse, and since qualifying, I’ve had the opportunity to work in a variety of clinical settings, including Intensive Care, medical and surgical wards, primary care, and corporate health. Six years ago, I moved into health and social care—and I haven’t looked back since. Working in a care home environment has been incredibly rewarding, and it’s where I’ve truly found my passion. I have a strong interest in end-of-life care and dementia support, and I find deep fulfilment in helping residents live with dignity, comfort, and connection. Before joining New Care, I held roles as a Unit Manager and also acted as Deputy Manager, which gave me valuable experience in leading care teams and maintaining high-quality care standards. When I discovered New Care, I immediately felt aligned with their values and vision. Their commitment to person-centred care, delivered in beautifully designed and engaging environments, is something I’m proud to be part of. Ashlands Manor is a truly special place, and I feel honoured to lead such a dedicated and compassionate team. In my new role as Home Manager, I remain committed to supporting both residents and staff, fostering a culture of respect, kindness, and excellence. I look forward to continuing this journey and ensuring that Ashlands remains a place our residents are proud to call home.

I began working within the care industry when I was 18. I started off as a care assistant in a residential care home after looking after my mum. Over the years I have progressed up to team leader, in home trainer and now working as the head of residential care here at Ashlands. During this time, I have worked with a variety of people from all walks of life. Developing my skills along the way. I have a particular passion for dementia and person-centred care. I particularly enjoy my Job here at Ashland's as it allows me to bring together the skills I have learnt while continuing to develop and provide person centred care to our residents.

Job Title: Head of Dementia Joined: 2021

I joined Newcare in November 2021 as a Team Leader and have worked in the care sector over 15 years in various roles starting as a bank care assistant and moving up to Deputy Manager in my previous job. I am passionate about providing person centred care to the residents we support. My greatest reward in care is working with people living with Dementia. I love working in care as it is fulfilling in making a difference in the residents’ lives, we support and to ensure that they are happy and cared for. I hold a Level 3 in Health and Social Care and a NVQ Level 4 Diploma in Leadership and Management. Since joining Newcare it was evident that the company put the residents first as stated in its Philosophy and vision. I am happy to be a part of Ashlands team and will continue to ensure our residents are cared for to the high standard whilst upholding the company's values.

Job Title: Wellbeing Coordinator

I am relatively new to care, with this being my first job within the sector, having worked in the Hospitality and Leisure industry for the last ten years, and gaining my degree in Events Management and Marketing, then working in management at various pubs, restaurants, golf clubs and arenas along the way. I ultimately had a real desire to work within the healthcare sector and was very keen to bring my wide knowledge and experience from my previous roles into this job. I love my job and being able to create a lasting impact on people and being able to make some fantastic new memories with our precious residents and reminisce on the old ones too.
