Opened in December 2009, Tallis House is a modern purpose built care home offering en-suite rooms and flat screen TVs as standard. Residents enjoy comfortable surroundings, freshly prepared meals cooked by the head chef, a relaxing café, a hairdressing salon and lovely gardens to take a walk through.

The home is closely linked with the local School and Church and was named after Thomas Tallis, the 16th Century composer who lived at the Abbey, following a competition at the School Fete.

First class service. Always ring and inform me of visits, doctors and trips. Cleanliness superb of resident and the home itself. Atmosphere friendly, staff always present and deal with you should you need this.

I find that the care home is very friendly and very relaxed and welcoming. They do activities during the day and also have cinema nights. My Mother is very comfortable and enjoys being there. Making friends and relaxing with them sometimes during the day.

For the 5 months, my husband was at Tallis House, he received good care from carers, enjoyed all the activities and was liked and on good terms with everyone. We were satisfied with everything at that time. However, after a five-day hospital stay, the Management decided against his return, saying his
needs were now too complex, though were, in fact, no different. Hospital staff and doctors were shocked by this, especially as it was they who had to give us this bad news. Tallis Management did not call me. Whilst both care and domestic staff did ask, at no time did any of the management ask how he was, even when our daughter went to clear his room - though she was let into the House by the manager herself! As I had visited every day of those 5 months, and my daughter regularly, we were on first-name terms with everyone, so expected better of Tallis Management, and I am bitterly disappointed in their lack of courtesy and concern. So sad to end the relationship on such a sour note.

I couldn't have asked for better care for my mother. The staff are so kind to her and to me. The outings and one-to-one provisions for residents are amazing and they get so many activities within the home.

My Mum went in for 2 weeks of respite 10-24 Dec on the top floor which I think is for advanced dementia. She was very well taken care of by all the team on her floor. I would like to give a special mention to a member of the care team who was very attentive with mum while I visited each time. Thank

Mum is 92 and has memory issues and a few health concerns, which means she’s not able to live safely at home. So in June, we had to make the difficult choice to accept she needs residential care. That’s never an easy decision. But, since she has been in Tallis House, her quality of life and her general
health have improved. She gets well cared for; her meds are correctly administered, and the food is excellent. She loves the activities and days out, and she has new friends. As a family, we can now relax knowing that Mum is never alone, never at risk, never more than moments of help if she needs it. And that is a big help.

The home is presented lovely - it’s kept clean and tidy. My grandmother's room is large with an en-suite and overlooks the courtyard, which she has access to via a door in her room.
My grandmother has been in the home for 5-6 months - the admission went well, and she settled quickly.
The staff are
amazing - the team leaders will always listen to any concerns I have and action on anything that needs doing. The deputy is also very responsive and will address any medical concerns we have. The manager is also very approachable. My grandmother has some lovely relationships with the carers, and they have really got to know her and her quirky ways.
As a relative to the home, I can honestly say Tallis House is amazing - so grateful that my grandmother is there and has every faith in the staff to look after her.
I would highly recommend this home to others - the staff genuinely care, and it’s a lovely environment.

My mother was in another care home previously and I wasn’t happy with her care there. Since moving her to Tallis House she is so much happier, content and well looked after. Also so much more active and stimulated. The other home left her sitting in a chair all day in nappies, now she is up walking
about enjoying her days actually using the toilet and having lovely conversations with staff and residents. I can see a massive change for the better in my mum I only wish I had chosen Tallis House earlier and she could have had this wonderful care and happy days earlier

I last wrote a review in September 2022, so we are now another year on that my Mum has been a resident at Tallis House. I would repeat all the good things I said about the team at Tallis House previously with regards to levels of care, quality of the food, love and attention they give to our Mum, etc
etc, but I think the more important fact is that I would repeat all these things 12 months on. It’s that constant high level of care they give that makes me relaxed in the knowledge that Mum is safe and loved every day. Thank you to all the team at Tallis House.

We needed a care home for our mother who was sadly unable to stay safely in her own home. The move to Tallis House was managed well. We are pleased that our mother is being cared for in a clean and caring environment. Staff have been very helpful in settling our mother into Tallis House.

My dad moved in at the end of June following my mum's passing and some memory loss. He has settled in really well and is enjoying his time here. The staff are all very friendly and I especially appreciate the support the deputy manager has offered to us over this settling-in period.

My mum went into Tallis House during Covid. It was very hard not to see Mum for such a long time. All the staff at Tallis are good people, considerate and caring, nothing is too much trouble for them. They all work so hard to look after the residents. A big thank you to everyone.

My mother has had excellent care from really professional staff. She has had some complex medical issues which have been dealt with promptly. The staff have a very caring and positive manner with her, which has meant she has felt secure and in her own words ‘contented’.

Both my parents have spent time in Tallis House. Overall the staff are lovely. The manager on the other hand is stand-offish and always appears to be outside smoking.
The standard of the food provided is dreadful, I have witnessed first hand the food provided and it is lawful.
Finally, there is a
distinct lack of entertainment for all residents. My father was on the second floor and spent all day sitting in front of the telly watching the news. Dementia patients need stimulation and interaction. I believe there is a cinema room not once in 2 years has this ever been used.
For some residents the staff and other residents are the only people that interact with, surely it wouldn’t take a lot to run bingo sessions or arrange a sing-a-long once in a while.

It was a difficult decision to put our mum in a home. When we visited Tallis Houe many of our worries were immediately dispelled. The rooms are clean, airy, a good size and well-equipped. All of the staff are, without exception, polite, caring and friendly with residents and relatives alike. There are
plenty of activities for residents and visits from local schools etc. The residents can sit back and enjoy life as everything is provided.

The care and love shown to my friend in the last 18 months of her life was exceptional. With the onset of dementia, the care given added to her life and enabled her to be able to enjoy life in the best possible way. Cannot thank the staff enough, in all aspects.

My Dad had dementia, the care that the staff give is marvellous and so kind. Weekends less staff I would suspect ti have more staff but the level of care that everyone gives is really good.

I began my career with Runwood Homes in 2009. I started as a carer in Tallis House, care team leader, deputy manager and now I’m a home manager. My ethos in my role is that with great teamwork, we can achieve anything for our residents and their families, and all our staff members contribute to the success of our home. Our residents are at the centre of everything we do at Tallis House.

My name is Joanne. I am one of the Deputy Managers at Tallis House, where I have been proudly working since 2016. I thoroughly enjoy being part of a great team, supporting my colleagues in their day-to-day duties, and providing high-quality care to our wonderful residents.


I hold an NVQ Level 3 in Health and Social Care, as well as Level 3 qualifications in End of Life Care and Dementia Care. I bring a positive energy to my work, complemented by a great sense of humour and a love for laughter.

My name is Grace, and I am one of the Deputy Managers at Tallis House. I began my journey with Runwood in 2017, returned in 2023, and have been proud to work here ever since. I hold an NVQ Level 3 in Health and Social Care, as well as an Access to Nursing and Midwifery Diploma. A fun fact about me is my obsession with sausage dogs—they’re my absolute favourite!
