Osbourne Court is no longer the standard that it was. Changes in management, which are not updated in the information on this website, have had a huge impact on the running on this care home. I do not believe that this home should be looking after residents with dementia. To describe their care home
as a "specialist" in dementia care is not true. There are far too many new, untrained staff here now, and not enough staff, despite the claims of the management. The concerns of family members of the residents, don't seem to matter to the management, and the claims of personal centred care are stretched to impress. I have been constantly let down, dismissed and left distraught in the last 2 years. You cannot personalise your loved one's room, as possessions are frequently removed from the residents rooms, left in pockets of clothing by the staff that change them, and subsequently destroyed in the washing machine, with absolutely no repercussions to the staff responsible.
Reply from David Ashcroft, Managing Director at Osbourne Court

We are sorry to hear that you feel this way. Whilst we do not claim to get everything right all the time, we are committed to providing high standards of care for all our residents and their families.OC is a well-regarded specialist dementia care home, with a long-standing record of working with social services and specialist dementia teams to support positive outcomes. We proudly operate with a full complement of permanent, well-trained staff-without reliance on agency cover, which is rare in our sector. We also invest in developing new carers to ensure continuity and quality of care.We respect your right to express your opinion; we believe your review does not reflect the experience of most of our families who entrust us with their relative's care. We are saddened that your relative's care needs have progressed beyond what can be met in a residential setting and now requires a nursing home.Your family member will be missed by our team, and we wish you both well for the future.

My dad went to Osbourne Court in January 2023 because he couldn't live at home anymore but he was so happy at Osborne Court. All of the management and carers were so good, they always had a laugh with Dad every time they went into his room. They always came out smiling and laughing where he was making
them laugh. He was so happy there, we all had some good times and laughs with him. We all miss him very much and he was very much loved by his family and Osbourne Court but sadly passed away on the 25th of May 2024. We will miss you, dad but we know that you are at peace now, love you so much dad with lots of love, we will miss you.

My father has been a resident since April 2021. He has dementia/Alzheimer's. The manager is very experienced and always professional. The manager as are the care staff, is very thorough, accommodating, helpful, patient and kind. The food and Dad's room are excellent. I would have no hesitation in recommending
this care home.

What a lovely place, Mum has settled in well and looks so much better, she has been to the hairdresser and chiropodist.
The staff are kind and caring and treat everyone with dignity.
Management have been very supportive, I have been in tears several times about making this decision, they have been
available at any time to answer my many questions.
The food is lovely with lots of drinks and tea and coffee made whenever she asks.
Beautiful en-suite room with a view of the garden, we have taken her chair and put up pictures.

Mum was a resident for a year until her recent passing.

She enjoyed her time here and loved sitting by her window looking out on the traffic. It made her feel she was still part of the world. Her room was lovely and well looked after.

The staff treated her with dignity and always had time to

sit and talk to her.

She enjoyed the food and often wanted seconds, not because the meals are small but because they were tasty.

She loved getting her hair done and having someone looking after her feet. She particularly loved seeing the aromatherapist. She also enjoyed the church services.

As a family, the standard of care meant we had peace of mind because we knew Mum was so well cared for. We also knew that we would have been contacted should anything happen.

I cannot praise the staff enough.

Go and visit and see for yourself.

My husband has been in Osbourne Court since January 2017 prior to that he was becoming very difficult to deal with, having suffered from Alzheimer's disease for several years.
He was difficult for the staff to deal with at first as he was very anxious and sometimes aggressive. However, they persevered
and his medication adjusted he became calmer and now seems quite content. Osbourne Court is an attractive building and the resident's en-suite rooms are very pleasant. Also, there is an outstanding area which can be used when the weather is good. The staff all seem very caring and willing to spend time with people and they all seem to get on well with each other, which I take to be a sign of good management.

Thank you for acknowledging the commitment from all the team at OC and the visiting professionals who worked together trying different clinical and caring approaches. It took time and with your support, we have been able to ensure all his days are as relaxed and fulfilling as possible.

My mother moved to Osbourne Court in March 2010 and lived there until she passed away in Oct 16. Mum felt settled, content and very much 'at home' there. We knew that she was safe and well cared for in all respects which gave us great peace of mind. Mum was treated with dignity, respect, kindness and
patience by all staff. We were welcomed and knew that we could discuss any needs or concerns openly with staff and management.
They took the time to know mum as an individual and catered for her needs in a personalised way. Mum enjoyed the various activities which helped to keep her mind active. She enjoyed the food and the variety of meals.
When mum became ill in Sept 16, we took the decision that she should stay at Osbourne Court. We cannot praise the staff enough for the care and kindness shown throughout the last few weeks of her life. It was outstanding in every way; enhanced by the excellent relationships with the local GP and District nurses which ensured that mum was comfortable.

My mother-in-law has been at Osbourne Court for several months now. When she first arrived she was extremely disorientated and upset. This made her angry, uncooperative and difficult to work with. I have been so impressed with the patient, professional and very kindly attitude of the care staff who
have gradually won her trust and helped her to settle in her new home.
It is nice that on the upper floor has two lounges, allowing choice. Thought has been put into making it homely, with comfortable sofas, a mock solid fuel fire with mantelpiece above and also a piano nearby.
The bedroom is light and bright and kept clean. Meals are generally good, though perhaps a bit on the heavy side sometimes.
The management of the home is good with any issues quickly discussed and addressed. I do definitely feel that at this home staff really do care about the residents and want them to be happy in their home and for families to enjoy visiting their loved ones.

Friendly homely atmosphere, very caring and attentive staff - at all levels. Managers (very 'hands-on') & carers work together as a team. Carers always show my mother respect, and are very supportive of family members in distress. We should love my mother to be able to stay here for the rest of
her days.

My mother became a resident two months ago, and has been somewhat slow to settle (but perhaps not untypically for someone suffering from Alzheimer's). Carers have worked unstintingly to integrate her into the home. It has been a bit of a concern for us a family that her future at the home has remained in question: she is obviously a borderline case for residential/nursing care - but we have the sense that 'progress' is being made.

I have not ticked 'excellent' in every category, but for most of those I have ticked 'good', I would have preferred to put 'Very good' - especially for Management & Overall Standard.

We have recently had to move my Mother from another home to Osbourne Court as it was purpose built so that there are no stairs (unlike previous home). As a family we have been incredibly impressed by the care and attention Mum is getting. She has a lovely room that is kept clean and tidy, Mum herself
always looks well dressed and tidy and is definitely enjoying being in her new surroundings.

My Granddad needed to go into a home. I only looked at 3 care homes and this one was perfect from day one, the staff are fantastic, so friendly and made us and him feel so welcome. He ended his life in Osborne Court and I know he was very happy there. The staff came to the funeral and went the extra
mile and we can't thank them enough they made my Granddad's last year one of the best xxxxx

Current Review Score: 6.9 (6.919)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 6.9 (6.919) out of 10 for Osbourne Court is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  1. The Average Rating is 3.8 out of 5 from 2 Reviews in the last 24 months.
  2. The score for the number of positive Reviews is 3.1 out of 5 from 1 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  1. 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months. The Average Rating of 3.833 for Osbourne Court is calculated as follows: ( (12 Excellents x 5) + (8 Satisfactorys x 3) + (4 Poors x 2) ) ÷ 24 Ratings = 3.833
  2. 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5'). The 3.086 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Osbourne Court is based on 1 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    1. 4 points are available for the first 10 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, and then 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews and then 0.1 Points for the next five Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.100, 7th = 0.100, 8th = 0.100, 9th = 0.100, 10th = 0.100) 3 = 3
    2. 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 58 registered maximum number of service users is 11.6. 1 Positive Reviews ÷ 11.6 = 0.086
  3. When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.
  4. If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.
