Had a terrible experience with Richmond Care Home.
Pre-admission the staff were very helpful, understanding, and reassuring.
However, on the day my mum went into Richmond it was a totally different story. My mum was greeted and shown to her room with the door shut behind her. After a little while,
I went to ask if there was anyone available to show my mum around but unfortunately was told everyone was busy.
The television my mum had brought wouldn’t work but there was no maintenance staff at all and sadly nobody else could help. After about an hour someone did come to show my mum around after struggling to remember her name.
As by now, my mum was very agitated we decided to leave.
I was very disappointed that no one from the care home tried to call or speak to me in the next 2 days.
A very upsetting experience all round.
Reply from Jane Beck, Carer Home Deputy Manager at Richmond Care HomeThe Richmond care home would like to express their remorse at not being given the time to begin developing a relationship before you left the building with your Mother, we feel 90 minutes was an inadequate amount of time to experience all that The Richmond can offer.
The home prides itself in delivering the best care possible from staff who `care with all their hearts` and it is regretful you and your Mother never felt this from staff.
We would also like to express our disappointment with the care home review team for publishing a review that did not follow the guidance in their policy as in our opinion what is important is for families is to read a review that is based on the care provided by the home and as no care was delivered on this particular occasion it appears unjust.

The Richmond care home has been nothing short of brilliant in helping to settle and comfort my dad. Management, support staff and nursing staff have all been considerate and highly responsive in ensuring my dad receives all the support and facilitates he requires. They have successfully balanced meeting
these needs while also ensuring dad's dignity and maintaining his independence as much as possible. The facilities are always very clean and Dad is really enjoying the food. It has been a comfort for myself and the family to know dad is being cared for with compassion and care and I cannot rate Richmond high enough in helping my dad transition with the minimum of disruption and challenge.
Reply from Jane Beck, Carer Home Deputy Manager at Richmond Care HomeWhat a wonderful review, this will make the team very happy to know that the hard work and dedication is valued so appreciatively.
I am proud to be part of a team that genuinely cares for our residents with such warmth and compassion, we take great pleasure in knowing that families put their faith in the team to care and support their loved ones.
Thankyou so very much for an outstanding review.

My father-in-law said, "please don't put me in a home", so making the decision to put him in a home was heartbreaking. We were recommended Richmond Care Home by our neighbour. Beat decision ever! The staff are brilliant; they really look after him and us as a family. They take the time to learn all
about him and chat with him about his hobbies and family, they encouraged us to bring lots of his favourite things from home and pictures to make it more homely for him. The home is beautiful, but the care he receives is fantastic; they genuinely care and are very helpful. We are grateful to them for making his final days full of care and respect for both him and us.
Reply from Jane Beck, Carer Home Deputy Manager at Richmond Care HomeThankyou for a beautiful review, the past couple of years have been very challenging but we continue striving to provide the best care we possibly can, your review means the world to the team and your review will be shared with all.
The team here at The Richmond take pride in developing relationships not only with those we care for but also families too, we are so glad you feel this.

It has been a difficult year not being able to visit mum, but Mother's Day was a special day - made even more special by our first visit inside. Facebook has been a godsend as well to keep in contact on messenger to keep spirits up. Thank you to all the staff.

Mum has been living at The Richmond for 2 years and sadly passed away there recently. We are so proud and thankful to everyone at The Richmond for their genuine love and care shown to Mum right up to the end. She was very much part of the Richmond family and we were comforted to know she was in their
safe hands. We will never be able to thank the manager and the team enough for everything they did for her. We witnessed how much love the girls showed Mum in her final days, I’m certain this contributed to her very peaceful passing.
Reply from Bob Allan, Care Home Manager at Richmond Care HomeThank you for such a warm and heartfelt review Lesley. It was our privilege to be able to care for your mum and she was a very big part of the Richmond family and will be very much missed. Our thoughts are with you at this very sad time. I will of course pass your lovely comments on to our care team. as it recognises their hard work, love and dedication.

Mum has settled into Richmond so well. I had the normal anxieties when she first went in but to see her laughing and looking so comfortable in her surroundings is wonderful and very reassuring. The staff I have met are all so kind to Mum and helpful with any questions that I may have. I can't thank
them all enough.

The Richmond is the best place my mum could have been through this last year, and before that, I have had no worries about her being cared for through this pandemic. They have taken every precaution to the wellbeing of the residents, still providing so much care and stability, which has helped me and
my family immensely through this difficult time. Thank you to all, Richmond, you are all so much appreciated.

My mum has been dancing for the first time in 30 years, clapped on and surrounded by a circle of residents. That is my mum being my mum and it is heart-wrenchingly delightful to see her dancing as I remember her when I was a boy. Thank you so much. Please continue to look after my mum and let her be
amazing.

I looked for a care home for mum for a long time and the Richmond Care Home came up tops. Excellent service from start to finish, my mum loves it here, mum has dementia and the care she gets is second to none. This care home is so clean and the staff are so caring and helpful. I would definitely recommend
it.

My wife went into Richmond Care Home on the fourteenth of December 2018. She was very unsettled, she would not go to bed one night when I was visiting. One of the carers was pushing a big leather armchair into my wife's bedroom when I asked what she was doing. She said if she’s sleeping in a chair it’s
going to be a comfortable one, but she didn’t leave it at that. Over the following weeks she persisted and eventually got her to go to bed, This carer is now a very close friend (she will know who I'm talking about) who will text me or ring me to see if I’m ok and if I’m not she will tell me off and pick me up. A lot of the staff have become very dear to me. I wish I could name them all. For two years they loved and cared for my wife. It's wrong to call the Richmond a care home it’s a home from home for those residents. On the twelfth of November at 3.45 am my wife sadly lost her fight for life. I spent 8 days and nights with my wife until she passed. All the staff made sure I was ok and now I get messages saying to keep in touch. They are my extended family.
Reply from Bob Allan, Carer Home Manager at Richmond Care HomeThank you so much for this very positive review at what is a very sad, difficult and emotional time. I would like to say what a pleasure it was to look after your wife and she will be sadly missed.
I will share your kind comments with all of the staff and care team. Best wishes from everyone at the Richmond.

Mother receives exceptional care at this home. The staff are all welcoming when you visit. The deputy manager has been keeping relatives informed of all the changes that have needed to take place within the home due to COVID. I am always kept well informed of how Mum is getting on. I always feel that
I can have a conversation with any of the staff or managers if needed. They do offer a fantastic open door policy. The home is warm, inviting and feels person-centred. I would recommend the home to anyone needing to place their loved one. Since the COVID-19 lockdown the staff, in my opinion, have gone above and beyond to keep all their residents safe. I think they have done a fantastic job under exceptional circumstances. I couldn’t have asked for anything more from them.

My father spent his final days in the Richmond Care home receiving palliative care for stage 2 terminal cancer. He was in there during the care home's most challenging time - during the COVID-19 outbreak. The level of care he received was incredible! All staff on the Manager's team were genuinely warm,
friendly, and concerned for his welfare and our wellbeing. Nothing was too much trouble for them. Ultra professional at all times, highly knowledgeable, and exceptionally compassionate. My family is thankful that my father spent his final days being cared for by such a dedicated bunch of lovely people. Dad's passing was made much more bearable because of the care he and we all received. We can not praise the Manager and his team enough.

Richmond Care Home has been a godsend for us. They have taken every care to look after my mum-in-law, even though she only attends one day a week. Nothing has been too much trouble for them, they have even offered to extend the daycare when we have had hospital visits with my father-in-law. I would

Current Review Score: 9.7 (9.734)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 9.7 (9.734) out of 10 for Richmond Care Home is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  1. The Average Rating is 4.9 out of 5 from 13 Reviews in the last 24 months.
  2. The score for the number of positive Reviews is 4.8 out of 5 from 13 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  1. 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months. The Average Rating of 4.909 for Richmond Care Home is calculated as follows: ( (140 Excellents x 5) + (14 Goods x 4) ) ÷ 154 Ratings = 4.909
  2. 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5'). The 4.825 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Richmond Care Home is based on 13 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    1. 4 points are available for the first 20 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews, 0.05 Points for the next five Positive Reviews, and finally 0.025 Points for the next ten Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.050, 7th = 0.050, 8th = 0.050, 9th = 0.050, 10th = 0.050, 11th = 0.025, 12th = 0.025, 13th = 0.025, 14th = 0.025, 15th = 0.025, 16th = 0.025, 17th = 0.025, 18th = 0.025, 19th = 0.025, 20th = 0.025) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 = 3.825
    2. 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 50 registered maximum number of service users is 10, which has been reached with 13 Positive reviews. Points = 1
  3. When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.
  4. If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.
