Sherrell House is a purpose built modern friendly care home located in Chigwell Essex offering skilled professionals for a wide range of personal and nursing needs.

The home has two specialist dementia units as well as a nursing unit. All beds have en-suite facilities and are decorated to a high standard. The simple design and layout of the building provides wide corridors with good lighting. Lounges, dining rooms and quiet rooms are located around the home, with communal rooms on each floor, close to the bedrooms, so residents can choose how and to spend their day.

In addition to this, the home has a hair salon where you can enjoy being pampered and a cinema area should you want to watch a film. Wi-Fi is available throughout the building enabling contact with families and friends from afar to be maintained.

The resident chef prepares tasty home-cooked meals each day which are served in the three dining areas. Each meal is designed to suit individual food preferences and cultures and uses fresh ingredients.

The aim is to create a homely atmosphere and quality care services where people are treated with respect and dignity. A home from home where the resident and their families can relax, secure in the knowledge that their loved ones are safe.

My husband has been poorly with a severe chest infection and has been looked after exceptionally well. The home has kept me informed all the way along.
Last year in October 2 members of staff saved his life by performing CPR for which I was extremely grateful as I was in Canada.

I am worried about security after the loss of a valuable wedding ring, also, all good quality new clothing just disappears. My husband has lots of clothes missing! We don't buy expensive clothes for him anymore, for fear that they never come back to his room even though they are labelled clearly.

My mother has been a resident at Sherrell House for almost seven years. During that time we have been more than happy with the care and support she has received. The staff are friendly, caring and professional. We particularly like the family get-togethers, i.e. BBQ and Christmas lunch.

While my mother was there for palliative nursing I found the standard of care excellent. Nothing was too much for the carers and nursing staff. I would visit every day and I found my mother clean and dressed for my visits.

My father has settled into Sherrell House and is comfortable with his surroundings. I feel there needs to be much more short span activities on the first floor which will enable residents to feel more relaxed, rather than just sitting and being restless with nothing to do. There never seems to be enough
staff, residents waiting to go to the toilet can sometimes take forever.
The staff are lovely, kind and considerate but more needed. A good clean of lounge chairs and net bedroom curtains wouldn't go amiss!

I am a regular visitor to Sherrell House since my mother-in-law moved there to be cared for. Each time I visit I am humbled by the high level of care and compassion that the staff show towards my mother and the other residents. Once I raised an issue and it was dealt with immediately, by the manager
and the staff, with the utmost openness and eagerness to solve it.
I would also like to mention the kitchen. Not only do they produce great menus they also willingly and warmly respond to any special request.
We quite often go out to sit in the garden and on the way, pass the laundry, hair salon and the houskeeping staff. They always smile, greet my mother-in-law by her name and even find time for a small chat with her. My mother-in-law, as well as me, finds it warm and friendly.

Since entering the care home the staff have made me welcome, they are caring and tend to all my needs with a smile and kind words.
Unfortunately, I am unable to write as my hands are not strong and my mobility is limited so I have to rely on others to assist me in various things. The food is good and

Many staff caring and kind. However, I do not feel enough attention is given to the detail of personal care e.g. oral hygiene not performed regularly or shaving and razor care. It took a long time here for my father's floor covering to be replaced in his bedroom but now done it is much brighter in his
room and easier to clean.

I visit my friend about once a week and my daughters and son also visit regularly. We all find the standard of care good although some air conditioning would be good in the main lounge during the hot weather. There do not seem to be the same number of activities as in the past.

Mum's health and general wellbeing have improved significantly since she came to Sherrell House in March 2018. All of the staff are so helpful and caring and inform us immediately of any concerns regarding Mum that they have. Reception staff, support carers, cleaners, everyone in fact that we have met
since March are all so respectful and caring. We are very pleased we chose Sherrell House.

My dad spent his last two weeks at Sherrell House. The staff made him and the family so welcome. They were all so wonderful and caring. They showed genuine interest in my dad and all got to know him in such a short time. They cared for him with dignity and my dad was happy there. We only wish we put

Job Title: Home Manager Joined: 2022

I have worked in the care sector for 19 years, but I was inspired to join Excelcare in particular because of the strong family feel and environment. All team members make you feel like you belong from the moment you start to work here. From when I first visited Sherrell House, I was so impressed with the compassion I could feel from the team every time that they spoke to, or about the people living in the home.


When I started at my first job in care, I was quite disheartened as there was no real team spirit or motivation. However, I am so glad that I continued in care, because that is certainly not the case at Sherrell House. I am part of a team that puts in 100% all of the time and is incredibly passionate. This is a fantastic environment, and I’m looking forward to seeing where my future in Excelcare takes me.
