Tony stayed at South Lodge for ten days respite care in order for us to get away on a much needed holiday. The care he received was exemplary. Every member of staff we came in contact with was friendly and professional. The day we took him in I was able to stay and have lunch with him. He had a lovely room with a view of the gardens. We were also able to preorder his favorite weekly newspaper. We were able to go away feeling very reassured and confident that he would be well looked after.

My mum Sylvia lived at South Lodge from March 2025 to June 2026. For most of this time she was effectively bed bound and suffering with dementia. For the last 15 months of her nearly 90 years, we were both cared for and supported by loving professionals who became like family; in a smart set of rooms that became a sunny and comfortable home. Having two balconies meant I could still create a lovely garden for mum to enjoy the changing seasons. Mum settled in straightaway. She was never distressed (except on one occasion early on, when she noticed all the old people!) and never asked to go home. As her daughter and primary carer for many years, and on the point of carer burnout by 2025, I will never be able to express my gratitude for the support I received. I could finally sleep at night knowing mum was in good hands. Thank you to the team at South Lodge, please keep doing what you do, it changes lives. X

My mother came to South Lodge in 2023, in poor physical health and coping with Alzheimer's. Her mobility was poor, and we had been unable to maintain her independence in a safe manner. We had prepared ourselves for the rapid decline in her health to continue, but thanks to the wonderful staff and community that is South Lodge, after a difficult settling in period, her mobility improved and she was able to play an active part in her new home, make many new friends and we were for the first time in years able to become loving family members enjoying some wonderful new memories, whilst reminiscing in a positive way on a life well lived. South Lodge gave her and us an additional 3 years of high quality life, with dignity, care and love to the end. The staff supported the wider family during her end of life care and I could not recommend South Lodge, Donna and her team more highly. I hope that if I ever need a new home that I would enjoy such a positive experience.

My father moved into South Lodge at the beginning of the year because we could no longer look after him properly. This was a difficult decision for the family but he settled in quickly and he was much happier there than we expected. The staff and facilties were really excellent and it was genuinely like a home from home. My dad and the whole family felt very relaxed and comfortable, it was always a pleasure to visit. He was treated with respect, dignity and real care, he enjoyed the company of the staff and the other residents, and benefitted from the varied activities available. Sadly he became ill and passed away but he could not have been in a better place for end of life care, with familar surroundings and staff who looked after him (and us) with great professionalism but also love right to the end. South Lodge has changed my perception of care homes, it is a wonderful place and I recommend it very highly. Thank you to everyone there.

My dear Dad was discharged from hospital into a home and it was a very difficult time for him and the family. After a recommendation, Donna the manager, came to visit Dad and was just brilliant with him. She treated him with kindness, dignity and respect and quickly understood his needs and why a move into the right home was important. After visiting 13 different homes, we knew instantly South Lodge was right for Dad. Not just because of Donna's incredible professionalism and expertise but because the food was amazing and the space itself was cosy and clean whilst being spacious and offering different options to relax. We knew Dad wouldn't always want to be with others or alone in his room but he had options and as a family we could go downstairs to different lounges and have our own family time. All staff were wonderful and we fully trusted them. He passed away at the home and the end of life care was exceptional. They did everything possible to look after us all. Forever thankful.

I can't recommend South Lodge enough starting from my initial contact. Donna the care home manager came to visit my dad at home before his stay and was so good with him.
All of the staff during his stay were so friendly and all of my family that visited my dad during his stay soon very highly of the staff.
I would definitely recommend South Lodge and would definitely use again when we require respite care.

Their professionalism, kindness, warmth and humanity were a perfect example of how a care home should be run. The food was excellent, the gardens were well maintained, the staff are extremely attentive to all the residents needs, and the activities were daily, and to a high standard.
