My father was a resident at South Lodge for 15 months and enjoyed every moment of his time there. He had his own apartment; living room, bathroom and bedroom and essentially lived like a king. We often discussed with dad about 'how lucky he was' to be able to live at South Lodge and I truly mean
that.
Food was important to him, and so he quickly took to having everything handed to him on a plate - literally and his expanding waistline was a testimony to the work of the fabulous catering team there.
The carers were all wonderful too and, even though dad could be quite stubborn and curmudgeonly at times, managed to see through these outer layers to build a lovely caring relationship with him.
This care and support gave me and my sisters great comfort, knowing he was being fed well and cared for in every way possible and for that, we thank you all.

Over the years since South Lodge opened, I have visited friends and family here (including an Uncle) and I have (on most occasions) been satisfied with the care given. I have not directly been involved with care plans.

Staff are very caring. My mum is safe and well cared for. It is very important to remind people about the activities. Everybody misses the lobby when it had sofas as it was much more friendly - why was it changed?
It would be nice to have regular updates of how she is and how much care she needs and
receives eg: prompts for personal hygiene.

It would be easy to talk about the many wonderful features of South Lodge Care Home, and no doubt you could get this from their website, but what’s hard to quantify is the unconditional love and care the staff have for their residents. I can’t remember when I last saw Mum so happy. A 5-star environment
with the passion and commitment to match.


The other indicator is cleanliness. Unlike some care facilities, South Lodge has clean lines and an air of freshness that starts at the front door and continues throughout rooms and common areas. It’s warm, inviting and fosters a sense of comfort and belonging.


Mum was only in for respite care, but in the short time she was there, she found she had another family and another home from home.

In our case, respite care for a limited period, satisfactory. For a long period, or permanently, we would require a larger bedroom. We have no complaints about the service or the attention from the staff. Everyone we come into contact with were at great pains to please and make us welcome.

My 4th respite stay at South Lodge since Christmas 2016. Still the same very high standard of care and comfort, plus excellent meals. As an 82-year-old with a long-standing heart condition, no immediate family and some limitations in mobility. I have found South Lodge to be a reassuring, friendly place

My mother stayed in South Lodge for 6 weeks respite after having a fall at home. She really enjoyed her stay and told me the carers were wonderful. The flat she stayed in was very clean and she enjoyed being looked after very much.

Everything is very positive about the place. Two very small negatives because I would expect perfection. Please may I suggest that staff, when they put my mother to bed, make sure they take her hearing aids out and put them safe. Also, I brought a small table for her (she had two in the room similar).

The staff are always friendly very helpful. Residents always seem happy even while the refurbishments were happening. The accommodation feels more like a hotel which is better than feeling like your in a residential home.

South Lodge is lovely, well designed and with lovely staff. It has provided the answer to our trauma of suddenly needing care for both elderly frail parents, when my mother's dementia and mobility issues escalated, resulting in her being unable to continue her caring role to my father, who has a choking
risk and depression. We have received wonderful support from the customer care and management, and both parents now have all their needs met together with amazing compassion from the care staff. We are truly thankful. The big windows and garden views are a tonic to all, the food is very good and varied, decor is tasteful, gentle and comfortable, which certainly eased the move from old home to care home. And the gardens with mature trees are delightful for both residents and visitors, with the path enabling a circular wheelchair-friendly walk. Reception lounge and cafe also a welcome feature for visitors to spend some time with their loved ones out of their bedrooms.

My father in law has had a problem with the excessive temperature in his room. Despite raising a formal complaint some months ago, the management at the time did not take our complaint seriously.
Since raising the issue again, an air conditioning unit has been provided, which enables the temperature
to be kept at a more comfortable level.

Excellent care from care staff on Langton - very pleasant, cheerful and engaging. Food is very nice - good selection available.
Housekeeping is OK - clothes are not hung up/put away properly and I regularly have to sort. Cleaning is good.
Property maintenance - the exterior of windows not cleaned
since last summer. Needs to be done once monthly.

My parents stayed at South Lodge from January to February 2018. The home is not only luxurious but a homely, safe and friendly place. If anything it does not feel like a residential home but more like a holiday home. All staff were very happy and caring on Charnwood. The residents appeared well
looked after and certainly, my parents were very happy with the care they received.


All in all the facility was well managed and the managers very supportive. I would highly recommend this place.

Staff made me feel at home and welcome. The service was pretty attentive most of the time and most staff knew who I was. The majority of staff spoke good English and had a kindly attitude.
The food was excellent, however, it would have been useful if I was told I needed to speak to the chef regarding
my dietary needs. When I did find out, the message was not passed to the chef! Also, doctors were phoned and they rang back but the message was not passed on that my blood pressure and pulse should be taken each day. I eventually rang the doctor as I was fed up and worried that they should have called 3 days ago and I was not pleased that the nurse on my last night got my medication wrong.

Thanks for your feedback, just in response to your comments, all new residents are assessed for their care needs and lifestyle choices before joining our community, this will include any dietary requirements so our chef should be aware of your preferences before your arrival. With regards to the phone call, sometimes care needs can change during a stay at South Lodge and it may be necessary for us to contact our Surgery. We did contact our GP and following his advice we monitored your blood pressure and pulse on a regular basis until your departure. We would be more than happy to discuss any part of your stay and if you would like to pop in to have a coffee and go through any of the above points please let me know. Dad went into South Lodge in February 2016 for respite care after a couple of falls at home, but after only two days, the nurses were not happy with the colour and swelling of his foot. The GP was called and as a result, Dad had his right leg amputated above the knee. He took the choice himself to return
to South Lodge.
His room was on the ground floor with a patio door to the gardens. Throughout his time in South Lodge, he was cared for and well fed. The nurses and care teams could not have been kinder. He was clean and safely moved every time with a hoist. He had his own TV and his own phone line into the room, and a library of paperbacks to work through. The manager's and key care workers assigned to him were readily available if I had questions, and when he passed away it meant a lot that so many came to say goodbye at the end of their shifts. His passing was calm, quiet and peaceful, and the care and kindness given to him and to us as the family was brilliant.

Phil is the man behind the scenes who keeps everything running smoothly at South Lodge. As our Maintenance Manager, he brings a wealth of practical knowledge, problem-solving skills, and a hands-on approach to maintaining the safety, functionality, and comfort of our home.


Whether it’s fixing a leaky tap, managing larger renovation projects, or performing daily safety checks, Phil tackles every task with care and efficiency. His calm and friendly manner makes him a familiar and reassuring presence to both residents and staff.
