After a bad experience at a previous care home, South Lodge managed our mother brilliantly. From the initial introduction, the professionalism of the manager, assessor and both senior care staff and support staff all have provided a very positive experience. Well done to the team, you're a credit to
both residents and their families who feel included in the decision-making for our loved ones, providing a safe and caring environment in which positive memories can be made with out mother.

Very friendly, welcoming and efficient from enquiry to moving in.
My family were desperate to find respite for my Mother following an unpleasant experience at a different home. I popped in to enquire, fully expecting to have to book an appointment, but I was seen within minutes by Kerstin the customer
services manager. Mum needed a profile bed and this was achieved very swiftly. They were able to accommodate my Mum within 5 days! And after 2 respite stays, she has now become a permanent resident earlier this month. She is very happy there. The care is excellent (there was just a small issue with one carer and this was dealt with and resolved quickly). All the staff are so friendly and the place has such a relaxed and welcoming atmosphere.
They provide a wide range of activities. Very clean and high-quality interior decor.

The home is nicely decorated, with good meals. The staff are very friendly, and the activities organiser is friendly and helpful and always looking for new ways to entertain the residents. The staff are all very encouraging to the residents. My mum went in for respite and decided to stay!
When I ask
a question of the management, they always reply in a clear and helpful way the same day.
Yes, it is expensive, but in this case, I feel you get what you pay for, and it is worth the extra compared with cheaper homes.

My parents had three weeks of respite at South Lodge Care Home recently whilst I was out of the country. This gave myself and other family members the confidence that they were safe and well cared for. Their accommodation was beautiful, and all the staff did an amazing job looking after their needs
and keeping them happy. It was a huge step for my parents to agree to go into respite as they cherish their independence. The experience was definitely a positive one, as they are both happy to have another stay in the future. Finally, not forgetting the kitchen staff... My parents loved the food and were well-fed during their stay! Thank you, South Lodge.

Mum went into South Lodge on the 23 December following a fall and breaking her arm. The discharge date kept changing, and one member of staff was so flexible and supported us to ensure we got Mum out of the hospital and in the home before Christmas.
Mum was a reluctant resident as a care home was never
part of her plans, but she agreed to four weeks of respite whilst she got back on her feet and then home.
I could see during this time how much she was settling in and thriving, and after three weeks, she said she loved it and didn't think she wanted to leave. So we are now just about at the three months mark, and I don't think we could have asked for anything more.
Across the board, the staff are professional, kind and caring. The little unpushy encouragement to get Mum involved with the activities has made a world of difference to her confidence.
Visiting Mum now about enjoying time with her rather than having to do 'house stuff',
I know Mum is happy and safe, which is a huge relief; thank you.

Mum moved to South Lodge three months ago. All the staff have been so welcoming both to her and her visiting family.
The accommodation is clean, homely and well designed with a variety of communal areas to sit in. Mum is able to have small treasured bits of furniture in her flat making it feels like
her own. The little kitchenette and en suite shower room provide an opportunity for retaining aspects of independence. She will certainly enjoy the garden when the weather is warmer!
The daily activities are varied, and the team works hard to invite residents to join in. Mum particularly enjoys her trips out to the neighbouring Church. The care team is always willing to chat through any concerns and show kindness and care for Mum's needs. Thank you, South Lodge!

My father recently came to South Lodge Care Home for some respite care. He was there for almost two weeks.
The care and attention from all the staff and management were second to none.
Very high standards, friendly, reassuring, kind and caring. My sister and I were very impressed with everything
South Lodge had to offer.

The care provided is good. Its strength is the quality of its staff, who are endlessly kind, helpful, friendly and person-centred. They keep us informed about any concerns they may have and are prompt in following any concerns we have.
They have monitored Mum's health and liaised with us and the doctor.
Her room is nice, the garden is lovely, and there are good shared facilities. The meals provided are nutritious, and Mum is encouraged to eat.

Mum initially moved here for a few weeks of respite care in November 2021. Within a matter of days, she'd decided that she wanted to stay and so she moved in permanently. She had lived on her own for the last nine years, and the combination of loneliness and the onset of vascular dementia had meant
she was spending more and more time being confused and stressed out. Moving to South Lodge made a huge welcome and changed this; she quickly made a number of friends (both residents and staff) and began taking part in the range of activities provided. She also made daily use of the garden, which she loved. Sadly, vascular dementia got the better of her last weekend, and the shock of this hit the staff just as hard as it hit us. I could not have asked for a better place for Mum to spend her last few months. The staff are wonderful and extended the same kindness to myself and my brother when we came to clear her stuff, as they had to my mum throughout her stay. We are eternally grateful.

From the outset, the team have supported Mum to transition successfully into the home. Since being in South Lodge, she has been warmly and consistently supported, and she evidently feels secure. From my very first meeting and show round of South Lodge, I got a very warm and welcoming feeling about the place. Everyone is very friendly and caring. The place is beautifully decorated. My dad was given a ‘little flat’, which is similar to where he lives with my mum. This was suggested, so it would
feel more familiar for my dad.
What has stood out for me is how the residents have ‘free flow’ to everything. The different rooms, lounge, library, restaurant, garden. This all helps to make it a home for everyone.
I think the main communal area is very well thought out. Different areas to sit, the coffee bar, the large crossword board and the activity board make for a lovely social area for residents.
My dad has dementia and Alzheimer’s, so he gets very confused and needs instructions repeated. He wasn’t aware of the light switch on the wall by his bed until I showed him on his third day. I think a bedside table lamp would be better.
All in all, a lovely place.

From the first telephone call to South Lodge Care Home to now, we could not be happier or more grateful for the absolute care, support and professionalism that we have received from all of the staff and carers. Through what has been a difficult and worrying time of moving our precious dad to a care
home, we have been fully supported as a family. Our dad has settled very quickly and tells us that the staff there are all angels without wings! The ethos and whole feeling of South Lodge are welcoming and respectful to its residents. Really impressed by South Lodge. All staff were amazing and very caring. We've tried hard to find fault, but can't! The only thing to mention is perhaps communication between seniors and carers could be better and between shifts. My father-in-law was very happy for the few weeks he was there - he was
terminally ill and couldn't have been in a better place. We knew he was being looked after, and it was a great help to us - we knew he was safe.

Mum had Vascular Dementia and an underlying Cancer diagnosis. She was living at home alone with carers twice a day when she took a sudden downward turn meaning I had to make a rapid decision for her safety to move her into care.


From the moment I met the team at South Lodge, I knew it was the right

place for my mum. Each and every one of the team showed a level of care, compassion and professionalism throughout her short three-week stay. Her condition continued to deteriorate, despite the best care, but the team adapted their approach daily to adapt to her continual changing needs, nothing was too much trouble.


I will forever be grateful to everyone at South Lodge for helping us through a very difficult time for myself and my family.

Seriously cannot recommend the folks at South Lodge enough or think of words to do justice to what they achieve. Absolutely above and beyond expectations every step of the way, and do anything to accommodate the needs of their residents. There isn’t a nice care home around, and there aren’t staff that
work as hard as these guys anywhere else. All my fears of my grandmother going into care were put aside within 5-minutes of talking to them.

Very kind, caring and attentive staff. Exactly what I needed and expected. My room was lovely, and I also have access to the beautiful well kept quiet gardens.
