Residents enjoy companionship and can join in with singing, music, exercise and arts and crafts sessions. There is the opportunity for gentle gardening activities in the summer sunshine, and there is a busy pen pal scheme.
The home is registered for nursing care and staffed by dedicated nurses and health care professionals with extensive experience in caring for age-related conditions and fully trained in infection control.

Fernhill is situated at Longham in the picturesque Dorset countryside, specifically designed and dedicated to the needs of people living with dementia.

Built over three floors, Fernhill has all en-suite bedrooms with shower facilities and flat-screen televisions with Freeview. Each house within the Fernhill community group has its own dedicated team of care staff, while on the second floor there is a guest suite for relatives who may wish to stay overnight.

The home is designed for easy orientation and independent living. There are spacious communal lounges and dining rooms all of which have a lifestyle kitchen and two private sensory gardens for the residents to enjoy, both of which are wheelchair accessible.

Following a refurbishment project in 2012, Fernhill has themed rooms, including a cinema, post office, café and in the garden residents will find a 1958 Hillman Minx.

My mum is a resident at Fernhill and I cannot recommend it highly enough. Mum had been living in sheltered accommodation, but in February 2019 her Alzheimer's became dramatically worse. I had recently been seriously unwell and it was a very difficult time with difficult choices to make, but we were
lucky enough to find Fernhill quite soon and, once we had met the staff, walked around and taken in the special atmosphere, I realised that it was a place where Mum would be cherished. Mum is now very happily settled there. The staff are so warm and kind to Mum and very informative to us, any issues are discussed and quickly dealt with. There are trips and also lots of activities which we join in if we are visiting at the time. There is a lovely little 'cafe' which has recently been extended that is lovely to go to for family time, and in November on Mum's birthday, we were able to have sole use of it for a family gathering which was wonderful.

My mother was at this care home for a number of years until she passed away in February.
Throughout the whole time that she was a resident, I felt that she was cared for in the most dignified and professional manner and the kindness shown to her was wonderful. The staff did not just look after my
mum amazingly, they also were exceptionally kind to us as a family. This truly is one of the best care homes.

My mother was a resident for over three years and just passed away this week. Words cannot express the unbelievable kindness and genuine love and affection that the remarkable and dedicated staff at the home showed to my mother and to us in her final days. The most dreadful of times was made bearable
for us (especially my dad) because of their professionalism and dedication. The dread and guilt felt by loved ones when they put a family member into residential care do not apply to this home - and a home it is. The facilities are incredible, immaculately clean and beautifully presented. It is, however, the staff that need to be most highly commended - from the trainee nurse to the manager - all of them, without exception, have created a magnificent and truly welcoming place for beloved family members to be touchingly cared for. Thank you so much to everyone at Fernhill for everything that you have done for my mum and for us.

My wife has been attending Fernhill Care Home for two days a week for more than two years to have daycare. In order for us to have building work on our property, my wife has attended for a ten-day period of respite.
During all of this time, we have been extremely pleased with her treatment.
The home
itself is of the highest quality and with kind, caring and professional staff.

Mum came for a week's respite. All the staff were extremely kind and friendly. The rooms were lovely and clean and a card for Mum welcoming her was a lovely touch. No more marking clothes as this was done at the home. Mum had her hair done during the week, offered a trip out, all in a lovely week for
Mum and a well-deserved break for myself and daughter knowing Mum was safe and well looked after.

Taking Mum from her own home to Fernhill was emotionally difficult for me, although I knew it was by far the best for her. The staff at the home were kind, understanding and very patient with me, more especially the two ladies in the reception area. They ensured the transition went as smoothy as possible
taking mine and mums feelings into great consideration. I can not thank them enough. Mum has now settled and is happy. I know she is being well looked after. Thank you so much to the Fernhill Staff.

Made welcome on arrival take to relative and explained facilities. Encouraged to make use of all the facilities and felt free to wander around at mothers pace.
It was apparent from chatty staff and mothers response she is very happy and cared for. Mother even said she is happy and loves her surroundings,
she is more active than she would have been at home.

Everyone is so friendly and helpful, greeted us like old friends when we returned! The residents seem to be very happy as they are treated so well by the staff. The residents are taken out on interesting bus rides etc and they enjoy the visiting entertainers - especially the musical ones.

This was my husband's second visit for respite care. I feel confident leaving him there so that I can have a break. It is not easy to walk away even if it is only for two weeks but he does enjoy himself and loves all the good food that is available. I can also be included in some events and the coffee
shop is a great place to have a chat.

With only 3 weeks in care the difference is amazing considering my mother has not left her own home in over 3 years!
She is now connecting with people and indeed going out on social outings with other residents and 1-1 carers and companions.

On 1st November 2017, my sister went into Fernhill for respite care. She enjoyed being there so much she asked to stay and has thus been resident since then. Sadly, my sister was diagnosed with an inoperable tumour and died in August.
During all the time my sister spent at Fernhill she was treated
with both kindness and dignity and all the staff went above and beyond what might be expected to keep her comfortable and pain-free during her last days.

Since my mother’s move to Fernhill, I have felt confident that she is being well looked after in a genuinely caring environment. All the staff are very friendly, professional and supportive towards both Mum and me and any new situation that has arisen has quickly been addressed to ensure Mum’s safety
and comfort. Whenever I speak to staff, I have the sense that they really know Mum, understand the issues that affect her and by finding out more about her life, are keen to treat her as the individual she is. Thought is also clearly being given to how she is dressed each day, something that would matter to her. The home has a calm, relaxed atmosphere and always looks clean and well presented. The decision to move a loved-one into a care home is never straightforward but having found Fernhill I have been much reassured.
