From meeting the marketing rep, to meeting the nurses during my parents' respective assessments, to my visit and the moving in of my parents. I cannot describe the relief and confidence I feel 'handing my parents over'. What I have seen re how the carers work with residents, their observations, their
questions to help my parents, the atmosphere of the home - just everything is so good and everything my parents need is offered and provided, should they want and need it. Thank you.

Food is excellent.
The home is very clean and the staff lovely and caring on the whole.
My main issues are the length sometimes that it takes to respond to a "bell" from the resident. Segregation in the dining room should be considered as, although sad the way some residents are, some of the habits
at the table are not fair on others.
Reply from Emma Harding, Home Manager at Astbury Mere Care HomeThank you for taking the time to review our home. The call bell is one of many systems in the home that is very closely monitored and results analysed on a monthly basis. The results show an extremely timely response to call bells at an average of just 84 seconds.

I cannot comment on individual circumstances in this forum, but should our resident (or their responsible person where applicable) wish to discuss any aspect of their care, including response to call bells, they may speak with me at any time.

After being dissatisfied with a number of care homes in Cheshire, I was immediately impressed with every aspect and for the first time felt my mother was resident in a home that provided dignity, compassion, affection and professionalism. The attention to detail was striking. Sadly my Mum died (at the
age of 93) after a few months but the end of life care was inspiring. I will always be so grateful.

I can’t praise the staff highly enough for their kindness to Dad after losing Mum. Everyone has been brilliant – taking time to sit with him to cheer him up when he was feeling down. The nursing staff and care team were brilliant – phoning me to let me know that Dad was ok. Complete peace of mind
during a very difficult time.

When we first visited the home to look round, we knew straight away that it was the right choice. Everyone was so welcoming and friendly – it just felt right. Dad has enjoyed his respite care and his mobility has certainly improved after walking the corridor several times a day!

My husband and myself were delighted to be welcomed into the home. Any feelings of apprehension were soon dispersed by the wonderful, calm and loving atmosphere which we felt. After a few weeks, I felt my husband was receiving excellent attention and was responding to such a dedicated team of workers,
making him feel happy and comfortable. Thank you for such a wonderful home.

Astbury Mere Care Home is the best, in East Cheshire. I feel relaxed and stress-free when my husband is in respite care. After visiting numerous homes, not one came anywhere to the standard of Astbury Mere. If they provided daycare, my husband would be the first there.

My father came to Astbury in July. The staff made him feel at home and took the time to understand his social needs as well as his care needs. The home and gardens are immaculate and the support given to the family is excellent we were even able to celebrate a family occasion in a private room so my
Father felt like this was his home.

My nana has been living at Astbury Mere Care Home since February. It was very hard for our family, however, the staff have been amazing and have made my nana feel right at home. Nothing has been too much to ask for and we love seeing my nana so happy and enjoying all the activities here. My nana loves
the food and going on day trips.

Carers are very supportive and considerate of individuals' needs. There are always carers around to deal with issues, answer questions etc. They are always patient and deal with numerous, different characters! Activities are well managed and attention is given to including all clients where ever possible.
There are favourite, regular activities and many interesting different activities to satisfy needs and interests.

My father fell whilst on holiday in North Wales, breaking his hip. He was admitted to Hospital where his hip was repaired. We initially tried to transfer him to Hospitals nearer but there were no available beds. We contacted Astbury Mere for their help and advice and they were very knowledgeable and
reassuring and were able to offer a room, with provision for respite and recovery which we were very glad to accept. Michelle and Emma were very helpful and supportive in the move from Wales. When we arrived at Astbury we were all made very welcome and my Father fully enjoyed his two week stay and made daily progress on account of the standard of care and provision received. Ideally, we would have liked him to have stayed longer but he was keen to return to his own home. We shall certainly consider using the home again as both my parents are in their late 80's

Words just cannot explain how wonderful the care that has been given to my mother-in-law for the last 4 and a half years. ALL the staff have given 100% plus to maintain that love and dignity is first and foremost, they go way beyond their job description. The support that we have received during mum's
life and death has been extra special - made to feel part of a loving family. Many, many thanks to ALL.

Current Review Score: 9.8 (9.813)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 9.8 (9.813) out of 10 for Astbury Mere Care Home is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  1. The Average Rating is 4.8 out of 5 from 31 Reviews in the last 24 months.
  2. The score for the number of positive Reviews is 5.0 out of 5 from 31 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  1. 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months. The Average Rating of 4.813 for Astbury Mere Care Home is calculated as follows: ( (300 Excellents x 5) + (61 Goods x 4) + (2 Satisfactorys x 3) + (1 Poors x 2) ) ÷ 364 Ratings = 4.813
  2. 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5'). The 5 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Astbury Mere Care Home is based on 31 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    1. 4 points are available for the first 20 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews, 0.05 Points for the next five Positive Reviews, and finally 0.025 Points for the next ten Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.050, 7th = 0.050, 8th = 0.050, 9th = 0.050, 10th = 0.050, 11th = 0.025, 12th = 0.025, 13th = 0.025, 14th = 0.025, 15th = 0.025, 16th = 0.025, 17th = 0.025, 18th = 0.025, 19th = 0.025, 20th = 0.025) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 = 4
    2. 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 62 registered maximum number of service users is 12.4, which has been reached with 31 Positive reviews. Points = 1
  3. When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.
  4. If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.
