This was my fourth visit to Astbury for respite care. On arrival, it was reassuring to see that a number of staff were in attendance from earlier stays. It was apparent that restrictions caused by covid had had an impact on the business and added to a number of poorly residents needing constant care and attention plus seemingly staff shortages, meant that the care I received overall was not as good as previous stays. eg I was often late going for breakfast perhaps to some a minor matter and I understand that this could sometimes happen but!

It was disappointing that I had forwarded by email details of my conditions, medications, etc and because I could no longer use a slide sheet and banana board to transfer from wheelchair to commode chair or to and from bed, etc would need to be by sling and hoist. I took with me my own sling which was supplied by Occupational Health in conjunction with physiotherapist advice which unfortunately initial use caused problems with some although not all of the care team. Perhaps this would have been avoided as prior to previous stays a nurse had visited me at home to go through my condition and needs overall. Quality Respite Care provision is an important factor, hence my regular visits to Astbury. I hope my comments will be helpful.

Thank you for your comments. As you know, all feedback is greatly appreciated although on this occasion, I am sorry to hear that you felt you did not receive the same level of customer care that you had come to expect from previous stays with us. We strive to ensure that all of our residents,...

Overall my mum is really happy at Astbury. She receives excellent care and is treated with care and compassion at all times. She loves the staff and is very fond of some of the carers who she says go above and beyond. Personally, my only criticism is the visiting is very limited which has been very difficult for us all as a close family.

Thank you for your review and such lovely comments - I will make sure the team get to read this. The last 12 months or more have been very unusual times and it has been difficult for everyone. We very much hope that things will return to what we all know as "normal" soon.

We have been really impressed by the care that Mum has been given and the home is extremely clean. We have always found the members of staff to be helpful. Mum loves the food and we will definitely come back for respite stays in the future.

My wife stays at Astbury Care Home for a week respite at least twice a year. I had previously tried another home a couple of times and had been extremely upset by the condition my wife was in when I returned to pick her up. I do not think keeping a person clean and well looked after is such a difficult thing to do. Here at Astbury my wife comes out clean and looking much like I keep her looking. The staff are so kind and caring and really care about her.

Reply from Emma Harding, Home Manager at Astbury Mere Care Home

Thank you for your kind words and for taking the time to review our home. I will pass your comments to the team who always like to hear how their hard work has been recognised. We look forward to welcoming your wife back to stay with us again soon. Best wishes.

I'm very pleased with my parents' care at Astbury Mere. They have been really well looked after for two years. My mother has struggled during the lockdown, and her physical and mental health deteriorated. Astbury Mere staff have been great, showing her loving care and attention through this difficult period. The home has been excellent during the lockdown, demonstrating a very high level of safety. Well done, everyone.

My father has been a resident at Astbury Mere Care Home in Congleton for just under 11 years. He was one of the first residents to be admitted when the home opened in 2010. His care has been excellent and I have also felt supported by the staff during times when Dad was quite poorly. He recently had his 100th birthday and although he is bedridden and we were unable to celebrate with him because of the pandemic, the staff gave him a great day and sent us photo's of the occasion. I would recommend Astbury Mere to anyone who needs to find care for their relative.

Astbury Mere Care Home is outstanding. The staff are totally amazing, and in the past year, have gone above and beyond to keep their cherished residents safe at the expense of their own family life. No question that they put their care first and always friendly. Nothing too much trouble, especially given the circumstances and the additional requirements to do their jobs, it couldn't have been easy.

I am so delighted with the service we are receiving from the staff at Astbury Mere. They give us regular updates about our loved one and nothing is too much trouble. Since moving here our loved one is enjoying his food and has even put on weight! He has been given extra help to stand and get into a chair rather than just using a hoist all the time, and been encouraged to try! The staff are very friendly to us as well as our loved one, all in all, we are very happy indeed that we moved from another home to Astbury Mere.

My mum has been a resident in Astbury Mere for three weeks. The staff have been very helpful and made mum feel comfortable from the beginning. Mum seems to be much happier, her appetite appears to have improved and she is much more interested in what is going on. As far as the family are concerned, although there are restrictions due to Covid, the staff keep us informed at all times and are always happy to answer any questions.

Mum has only been at Astbury for a few weeks and as a family, we were concerned about the transition to Astbury from another care setting and the impact it would have on mum. We needn’t have worried though, the move was seamless, and mum took it all in her stride.

The support prior to the move and since has been excellent. Mum is now settled and happy in her new home.

I found the environment, ambience and facilities superb. I am here for respite and will be sorry to leave in about 3 weeks to resume living in my flat. The staff are exceedingly helpful and kind. My only criticism is the very poor telephone connection for my mobile. My comment on food must be taken into account that I have a very restricted diet.

I felt like we must say a big thank you to all the staff at Astbury Mere, they have been amazing during the past ten months, as my husband has only been with them during the unprecedented circumstances. They have all worked so hard to keep the residents safe and manage, be them short, visits once a week. It was a big decision to make for me and my family but they have provided peace of mind for us, the best care possible.

I arrived at Astbury Mere November 2018 straight from a long stay in the hospital (4 and 1/4 months) as I had lost the use of both of my arms, voice following a very serious surge flare up I'm my progressive MS. I had lived in the area for 38-years and only Astbury Mere and one other home being the only two placements available following a temporary stay in a care home in the area. I decided to choose Astbury, but I needed to get back to my home, however, I could not feel safer anywhere else. 5-stars to Astbury during covid-19, but I ham/am enjoying life here. Compassionate care, quality support, which we need. I look forward to many years with our Astbury family.

Our dearly missed mum was a resident at Astbury Mere for only a short time at the beginning of this year but the difference in her was incredible. To say she had a new lease of life for two short months is an understatement, also considering how poorly she was when she became a resident. Every part of the process from first contacting the home to mum's departure was exemplary. All of the staff are marvellous, kind, thoughtful, professional, and above all empathic to residents' needs along with their families'. Witnessing the attention residents received and their interaction with the staff was heartwarming. As a family, we will be forever in debt for the care mum received and the support we were afforded.

My mum moved to Astbury during the pandemic. Despite the restrictions, it is extremely clear how well cared for my mum is. I feel the staff show genuine care and respect. It is heartbreaking not being able to see her, but I gain so much comfort from knowing how well cared for and supported she is. It was recently my parents Golden Wedding Anniversary, and the staff could not have arranged anything better under current guidelines.
