My brother has been a resident in the Nursing Unit for six months. He receives excellent care from the nurses and the care staff. He is treated with love, compassion, respect and dignity. His needs are promptly and carefully anticipated. Every effort is made by everyone to improve his quality of life.
The manager is very professional and cares deeply about her residents. She has taken time to get to know my brother, and I have every confidence that she will always do her best to ensure his needs are appropriately met. Nelson Manor is a warm and friendly environment. All the staff contribute to this. Family members and friends are known and made to feel very welcome. I have no doubt that Nelson Manor is the best place for my brother. I have no hesitation in recommending it.

My father has been a resident for the last 7 months and I can't speak highly enough of the Manager and her staff. I have complete peace of mind that my father is being cared for to the best of the staff's ability and he is completely settled at Nelson Manor.

My wife thought it was a posh hotel when admitted.
I have been treated with respect and I am known by my first name which they use all the time.

Very good care and attention to my mother overall.
She suffers from dementia and on the second floor.
Our only not so positive comment is the hairdressing. Mother's hair is not well looked after, in spite of the regular payments made for this service.

My experience with my mum's care is mostly good, it's clean, tidy, the staff are friendly and helpful. It's the small things that matter, like teeth not soaked overnight., her hair not brushed, clothes going missing with her name on them, putting the mat down when in her room. She goes to the bathroom,
no one is there to keep an eye on her - it's written on a wall chart, what Mum needs. She misses out on some of the activities. I come 5 times a week. She does scream or shout, she likes a bit of peace. The small lunge is full and noisy. Do not put Mum in the big lounge.

The Manager and all her staff on the Jubilee Dementia Unit are wonderful - they cannot do enough for you.
My mum is deteriorating and the care is second to none - my sister and I can sleep easy at night, knowing that our precious mum is well cared for by genuinely caring, friendly staff. The food
is very good - though mum is no longer well enough to eat much. All staff try very hard to ensure she is kept fully hydrated, and ensure that she does not develop pressure sores as she is so frail now. All staff treat mum with dignity and respect, which is essential as mum has always been fiercely dependent throughout her life. Staff get around that, with patience and compassion, and they gain mum's trust enough so that she will accept help to keep her dry and comfortable. I cannot find anything negative to say about Nelson Manor Care Centre - if your relative needs to enter a Care Home, you will not go wrong if you choose Nelson Manor. A wonderful service and wonderful staff.

Extremely friendly staff, caring environment, staff focus on patients and check on them regularly.
Clean and homely atmosphere.
An effort is made to accommodate patients individual needs, e.g. meal preferences (the chef is very proactive and friendly).

The staff have been very kind and helpful to the family. It appears that the staff have tried hard to meet my father's needs. He has been kept comfortable and they have responded well to his changing health needs.

The care is wonderful. We visit at all different times and the staff are always considerate and kind.
My mum is well looked after and I leave feeling content. As I know they are looking after her.

Mum moved into Nelson Manor in September 2014. Without the support of the outstanding staff and their care, Mum and our family would have really struggled. The home is practical and provides the space for living needs, including access for emergency care.
The facilities allow Mum to maintain simple
and important elements to enjoy her final years.
The staff have given outstanding care and support to Mum. They are considerate, treat her as part of the Nelson Manor family and have allowed her to maintain dignity.
We trust them to care for her as well as we could and throughout our time they have offered endless support for the family.
We are truly grateful for Nelson Manor, with them we have enjoyed many extra years together.

This home has been so badly run over many years. As I have worked in care, I noticed many bad practices and reported it to CQC. Now the home has new managers and staff and apparently an owner who is committed to the home and works closely with his staff. After the bad, you now have a very well run home
with managers who are hands-on who have worked their "butts" off to achieve a well-run caring and compassionate home. They work with families so their relatives get the best care they can achieve. Well done to you all.

I would highly recommend Nelson Manor to take care of your family member. I have found all staff to be friendly, helpful and caring and always willing to listen to any concerns or questions I have. Everyone is treated with the utmost respect and given a wealth of encouragement to carry on with their
everyday lives. Residents are not only cared for, they are talked to and given choices to lead as normal a life as possible in a safe and secure setting. I have found the nursing staff, carers, admin and management, all more than willing to go the extra mile to ensure my father's needs are met.

Nelson Manor accepted my father as an emergency admission on a Sunday - the only care home which was prepared to do so of the large number we contacted. Immediately supportive and helpful, these are qualities which have been apparent throughout my father's stay. His care has been exemplary, all staff
being friendly and positive about the establishment and the care they provide. We felt that on our initial visit and they have been aspects evident whenever we have visited.


My father, a man with a rather critical disposition, has settled well and is very positive and grateful for the care he receives. We consider the staff to be ultimate professionals and we have quickly learnt to trust them implicitly - this coming from my partner - an NHS governance manager with a nursing background. We have also been impressed by the employment of full-time activities co-ordinator and maintenance man.

My parents were both looked after with great care and understanding, and whenever possible they were with each other. Staff were very kind to my mother when she was on end-of-life in the last four weeks of her life which I will never forget. Everything was very professional and staff were very kind
to both my parents and to us. They were both characters and had had nearly sixty-five years of marriage together.

Joanne Murray is working extremely hard to provide good care for our dear loved ones. She has provided for my Mother a loving and caring environment when we most need it. I visit my Mother and most of the carers always greet me with kind words and reassure me that they understand my Mothers needs and
these needs do vary from day to day. We are asked how the family are and my Mothers Spiritual needs are supported. The parish priest visits and also a Eucharist minister. There is open visiting, which fits in with families who have busy working lives.

My mother has Dementia and has been a resident of Nelson Manor since April 2015. In just under two years the home has undergone numerous management regimes and high staff turnover.


As a result of this transience, I have noticed an inconsistency in the quality of care and standards. However, I do

sense that things are improving. I've heard staff genuinely express this. It is difficult to be 100% certain when leaving this kind of feedback, simply because I visit twice a week and can only get a 'snapshot' of the way things appear. But I feel confident that overall things are certainly improving.

Think very carefully before putting a relative in this care home. We had a dreadful experience. Allegedly there are plans in place to improve but I would advise extreme caution. If you are considering it, read the CQC inspection reports first, ask a lot of questions and monitor the care very closely,
especially medication management. Our experience reflected similar issues to the CQC report and worse. Yes, the place is new and looks nice but we experienced very poor management and care.
