Dad has been here three years and any issues have been dealt with.
On the whole, this is Dad's home now and he is very settled here.
Love the idea of the monthly newsletter.

Buckingham Lodge is the most remarkable place. The moment you enter you're greeted by kind caring staff, who do care about the residents and enjoy their jobs. They take an interest in the resident, their likes/dislikes hobbies, etc., and then talk to them about them. They somehow make time to answer
all questions/queries/concerns you or the resident may have. Residents and visitors are treated with dignity and respect. Everyone is so friendly. My Dad thought he was in a 5-star hotel, it truly is that good - nothing is too much trouble. They enabled me to go back from being a carer to a daughter and for that, I am eternally grateful!
Reply from Binu Augustine, Home Manager at Buckingham Lodge Nursing HomeThank you for the kind words. We will continue to look after our residents to the highest standard. I will pass comments on this to my colleagues.

My mum has been staying at Buckingham Lodge since 21 December 2023. I have found all the staff to be very friendly and caring. Mum is looked after very well. The room is large and everywhere is kept very clean. Nothing seems to be too much trouble.

Our overall impression of Buckingham Lodge is pretty good. The visually smart interior, excellent food, very welcoming staff and more importantly the feedback we get from our mother is always very positive. Slight concerns however on personal care. More assistance required in the toilet area we feel.
My dad is incontinent so more prompting and pad changes during the day would be good. My mother suffers with oedema so leg elevation and gentle exercise would be beneficial. I appreciate you are often short-staffed but these are areas of possible improvement we feel.
Reply from Binu Augustine, Home Manager at Buckingham Lodge Nursing HomeThank you for your valuable feedback. I would like to assure you that with the implementation of our new management structure, we have made substantial enhancements to our staffing levels. Your suggestions regarding areas for improvement have been promptly addressed. If you ever wish to discuss these changes or any other concerns further, please feel free to come and talk to us.

My friend was a resident at Buckingham Lodge for four years. She didn't have any visitors but always said that the staff were excellent. She was always treated with kindness, dignity and respect by all staff who always went the extra mile, especially when she needed shopping done for herself. She was
very happy at Buckingham Lodge, she had no family apart from me.

A house becomes a home when it is filled with kindness, love and respect, which are all the attributes that the carers at Buckingham Lodge possess whilst providing the best care for their residents. My mum is happy and feels at home - the carers are her extended family. I am forever grateful for the
professional care and attention provided for my mum. Thank you to all the carers - you all do an amazing job.

Modern building with up-to-date facilities. Clean and warm. My father-in-law is content, treated with kindness and care. Carers show him respect and he is content and feels safe. His family are welcomed and kept advised of his condition. Have dealt with questions in a timely and diligent manner. More
than satisfied with the home. Thank you.

The resident in question was adamant that they did not want to go into care. Due to the standard of the home, staff, food and entertainment, this person has completely changed their mind. They love their life in the home and are happier and settled than either he or the family expected. An excellent
outcome thanks to the hard work from everyone involved.

Seven months on from my aunt arriving at the home she couldn't be happier. Initially against going into any home after her husband died just under a year ago, she loves the company of other residents, having lived a quiet life following her diagnosis and through Covid restrictions as her late husband
did his very best to look after her. She thinks the staff are wonderful and I have never seen any of the staff, whatever their age or role in the team, treat her with anything other than care, kindness and dignity. Staff take an interest in what she chats to them about and she enjoys the activities and has picked up old hobbies such as knitting with the encouragement of the activities team when she had totally lost confidence in doing this. I always feel very welcome when I go to the home, whether it is to pick my aunt up for a weekly trip out, to chat to staff about her or to sit in the beautifully decorated and cosy lounge for a cuppa. I am kept well informed about any issues.

We make a round trip of over 200 miles every fortnight to visit my cousin as he doesn't have anyone else to visit. He seems quite happy where he is and gets the care he needs. He gets on well with the staff. It would be nice to see him out of bed occasionally, but being a stubborn individual, he can't
be forced.
Reply from Marie Cherry, Home Manager at Buckingham Lodge Nursing HomeThank you for taking the time to share this review and your comments. As you have mentioned there can indeed be some challenges built into supporting our residents to make their own choices and always respecting their preferences. My wife has been a resident of Buckingham Lodge for over two years, and I have formed a very positive view of this care come. Receptions and caring staff are friendly and helpful. Caring is relaxed and adaptable to the needs of the moment. My wife is now settled and less confused and refers to her helpers
as "friends". I and my family are grateful to the staff for the attention and help of those who now have charge of her care.

Current Review Score: 9.7 (9.722)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 9.7 (9.722) out of 10 for Buckingham Lodge Nursing Home is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  1. The Average Rating is 4.7 out of 5 from 31 Reviews in the last 24 months.
  2. The score for the number of positive Reviews is 5.0 out of 5 from 31 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  1. 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months. The Average Rating of 4.722 for Buckingham Lodge Nursing Home is calculated as follows: ( (278 Excellents x 5) + (70 Goods x 4) + (14 Satisfactorys x 3) + (1 Poors x 2) ) ÷ 363 Ratings = 4.722
  2. 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5'). The 5 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Buckingham Lodge Nursing Home is based on 31 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    1. 4 points are available for the first 20 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews, 0.05 Points for the next five Positive Reviews, and finally 0.025 Points for the next ten Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.050, 7th = 0.050, 8th = 0.050, 9th = 0.050, 10th = 0.050, 11th = 0.025, 12th = 0.025, 13th = 0.025, 14th = 0.025, 15th = 0.025, 16th = 0.025, 17th = 0.025, 18th = 0.025, 19th = 0.025, 20th = 0.025) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 = 4
    2. 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 73 registered maximum number of service users is 14.6, which has been reached with 31 Positive reviews. Points = 1
  3. When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.
  4. If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.

Job Title: Hospitality Manager

I come from a background in managing hotels and community pubs, where our aim was to make our guests feel like part of the family by providing the very best hospitality experience we could. I’ve brought over what I’ve learnt from high street hospitality and hope to apply it within the care industry. I decided to move away from pubs and hotels because I wanted to work where I can make a difference in peoples lives. Away from work, I enjoy Photography, songwriting and city breaks.
