I highly recommend Alexander Care Home. My stepfather and my mother were both residents there at different times, the care they received was amazing. The staff were really friendly and you can tell they care for the residents. They have great activities for the more active residents. The place is spotlessly
clean, great food and generally a great all round place to reside.

Both my parents were at Alexandra Grange and benefitted from the support and attention of the care staff. Staff were always on hand to answer any of my queries relating to my parents.
The home has a good range of activities to suit residents and the menus are varied and interesting.
I shall always
be grateful for the support they gave over the last few years.

We have been very impressed with the professional care and warmth shown to my husband throughout his stay. The small changes and improvements in his mental and physical welfare have been very noticeable as he obviously is feeling safe and settled here.

My relative has now been in Alexandra Grange Care Home for six months, where she settled in quickly. She clearly enjoys socialising, a good range of meals, and joining in activities, particularly live music, and musical chair exercises. When we visit we like taking her to the Garden Café, and on little
walks in the garden. Her hair always looks lovely; she enjoys her weekly visit to the hair salon. Her well-being, independence and quality of life have certainly improved since moving in. The staff treat everyone with respect, care and encouragement and there is a notably relaxed, friendly, calm atmosphere. The care home, which is always open to visiting friends and relatives, looks really fresh and inviting with vases of flowers, and residents’ crafts on window sills. I have found it easy to discuss concerns and I really appreciate the managers’ and team leaders’ experience.

The staff were supportive and caring to all the residents and family members. We were always made to feel welcome. On the whole a great care home which enabled a difficult transition go as smoothly as possible. We wish we could have stayed but required nursing care.

My parents have been residents at Alexandra Grange for 12 months and we are very pleased with the overall level of care and support they receive. The staff are very friendly, encourage participation in the many organised activities and there is always someone to provide a comforting arm or a listening
ear. Accommodation is light and airy, well decorated and kept clean. Food appears varied and well presented. Good communication with staff and management team who keep us informed of well-being and any issues.

I was looking for a short term stay for my father, and received a very warm and professional response from the Customer Relations Manager.
Alexandra Grange Care Home is immaculate and similar to a five star hotel. The staff were friendly, caring and so supportive to my family.
I cannot fault the
care that has been offered to my father, and thank you all so much for your kindness during his respite stay with you.

Alexandra Grange Care Home are excellent in every way. We chose them for their proximity to central Wokingham, their good reviews and the knowledge that they would care well for my elderly aunt, in her final days. The management did everything they could to support my aunt in moving at the earliest
opportunity, treated her with the utmost respect at all times. The care she received was wonderful, we had regular updates and her wishes were always considered. She felt safe, supported and cared for. Thank you to every member of staff, you are very special people.

In these very difficult times, we entrusted our mum at Alexandra Grange, after only a virtual tour we put our trust in Alexandra Grange to look after our mum in these most unusual times. She has settled and been looked after and kept safe far beyond our wishes. I hope you understand that as we have
not been able to go inside Alexandra Grange it has not been able to mark fairly some of the questions.

It is difficult to give an honest opinion as I haven't been inside the care home in the last 12 months. There has also been a significant turnover of staff who I haven't, as yet, met. From those I have met I get the impression that everything is running along smoothly.
Reply from Magda Anca, General Manager at Hallmark Alexandra GrangeThank you for your feedback. You are absolutely right that we had some team members who tried to fit into the care sector (this was mainly due to the pandemic and redundancy from their job) but they were not successful. Our standards are very high and only a dedicated team will be able to maintain those standards.

The staff at Alexandra Grange are all caring and cheerful. They make a real effort to ensure that my mother is well cared for. The food reads well on the menu, but my mother who is herself an excellent cook is not happy with the quality on her plate. Especially now that she is using a Zimmer frame my
mother finds her room too small to navigate safely. The bathroom is very spacious and therefore safe.
Reply from Magda Anca, General Manager at Hallmark Alexandra GrangeAngela, thank you for your review. Mum’s room has been rearranged and there now is more space for her to move around. Our chef and Hospitality Manager are talking to mum about her food preferences.

My Mum has been cared for at Alexandra Grange for several years. Over that time her needs have changed considerably and the care home has been flexible in response to this. The front line care staff are very caring, friendly and professional and they have my full confidence. They're always happy for
me or my family to visit and I feel that I can phone up whenever I want to discuss anything. The administration and management are always available if I want to discuss anything and keep me updated on what is happening at the home. Life isn't always easy for my Mum, but I feel she is getting the best possible love, care and respect at Alexandra Grange.

My mother, now well into her 80s and needing close care due to her very poor mobility has been a resident for nearly 6 years. Throughout this time her care has been exemplary. The team have always kept me informed if she has needed extra care and welcomed my attendance at any point. Through the coronavirus
period, they have always been ahead of government recommendations and have done their best to maintain spirits in the community.
I unreservedly recommend this home.

My Mum was whisked into residential care in the days before lockdown when our lifelines (the dementia clubs and day centres) were all closed. She has advanced Alzheimer's and we were faced with sending her in with no transition at all. The friendliness and kindness of the staff at Alexandra Grange,
coupled with the beautiful surroundings, meant that Mum immediately settled in her new home. She was happy to join in with the many activities and seemed comfortable with the people caring for her. The admission process was handled gently but swiftly, giving us peace of mind that care was being taken to keep Mum safe and happy. Of course, we are managing in a very unusual situation, but communication lines have always been open, and staff have been great at facilitating the visits we can now have. I feel connected to what Mum is up to, and assured that she is being taken care of. It is terrible that we can't see Mum as much as we like, but it's such a relief to know she's looked after.

Current Review Score: 9.9 (9.899)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 9.9 (9.899) out of 10 for Hallmark Alexandra Grange is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  1. The Average Rating is 4.9 out of 5 from 25 Reviews in the last 24 months.
  2. The score for the number of positive Reviews is 5.0 out of 5 from 25 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  1. 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months. The Average Rating of 4.899 for Hallmark Alexandra Grange is calculated as follows: ( (268 Excellents x 5) + (28 Goods x 4) + (1 Satisfactorys x 3) ) ÷ 297 Ratings = 4.899
  2. 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5'). The 5 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Hallmark Alexandra Grange is based on 25 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    1. 4 points are available for the first 20 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews, 0.05 Points for the next five Positive Reviews, and finally 0.025 Points for the next ten Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.050, 7th = 0.050, 8th = 0.050, 9th = 0.050, 10th = 0.050, 11th = 0.025, 12th = 0.025, 13th = 0.025, 14th = 0.025, 15th = 0.025, 16th = 0.025, 17th = 0.025, 18th = 0.025, 19th = 0.025, 20th = 0.025) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 = 4
    2. 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 58 registered maximum number of service users is 11.6, which has been reached with 25 Positive reviews. Points = 1
  3. When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.
  4. If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.
