When an elderly person needs 24-hour care requiring them to leave the comfort and security of their ‘home’, it’s never easy, for any of the family. But when that move is greeted by a truly dedicated team who care deeply for their residents, it makes it all so much easier, brings peace of mind and becomes
a second family to us all. This year has been tough re Covid, on staff, residents and families. The team have worked tirelessly to keep the residents as safe as possible, and in communication with their families.
Reply from Magda Anca, General Manager at Hallmark Alexandra GrangeThank you kindly for your review, we really take pride in the service we offer to the people we support here. I'm so grateful for you taking time out to leave this lovely review and we are happy we could make the transition as easy as possible for mum and the rest of the family.

My wife has been a resident at Alexandra Grange for over a year, and during this time we have had nothing but praise for the staff - whether nursing, caring or household.
At all times, irrespective of the condition of my wife, the staff have shown exemplary care for her - as they do for all residents.
The staff appear to have a real sense of love for the patients - who in turn respond with smiles that show the bond that exists between them.
For me and the rest of my family, we are thankful that she is so well cared for - we know that she is safe and secure. We can ask for nothing more.

What struck me when I was shown around Alexandra Grange was the genuine warmth between carers and residents. When I commented on this, I was told, "Well, this is their home, we are privileged to be here looking after them". Mum then visited, and when she came back a few months later, she was warmly
greeted by everyone, especially a carer in the garden cafe who called her by her name and sat down and chatted like they were old friends. I later found out that this was completely unprompted and unplanned. The carers are exceptional, so kind and genuine. It's a hard decision, but I feel so reassured that mum is so well cared for. The food is unlike anything I've seen in other homes - beautifully presented, home-cooked, sensible portions, appropriate choices, delicious. And freshly made cakes and biscuits every day. Activities and facilities are excellent. I never feel rushed when speaking to staff about mum's care. Nothing is too much trouble. Thank you, Hallmark, for Alexandra Grange.

It is very reassuring to know that our mother is being cared for so well in such a loving environment.
The staff are kind and respectful. The care staff treat her as if she was their own mother/grandmother.
The activities team are absolutely brilliant, and the best I have ever come across. I'm only
sorry my mother hasn't been well enough to take part in the activities, but even that hasn't prevented them from including her whenever possible.
A lovely place.

I am very impressed by the care my friend is receiving. The level of care is excellent and the staff are very caring and always available when the need arises. The rooms are very comfortable and spotlessly clean. I often peruse the menus and the meals look very appetising. Alexandra Grange Care Home
would be my choice if ever the need arises.

Since mum has been here for the last 18 months. I have been very happy with the care she has received and also the support from the team leader.
Mum's eating very well and loves the food. Her bedroom is always spotlessly clean and tidy.
They are always encouraging mum to join in with the activities
which they do every day and maybe mum does sometimes and she has a little dance. She has a favourite carer, when I come to visit she always has a smile for her. I am so happy with Alexandra Grange looking after mum.

In caring for the frail elderly I believe a few simple things make a huge difference. The first two are eating and sleeping well, these important details are covered very well indeed at Alexandra Grange. They also make a big effort to get the residents out of their rooms every day and involved with
the life of the home.

Today was OK. Sun was shining, so sat outside. Building and facilities are impressive.
Care is varied. First time I visited, the bedroom was in a disgusting state (bed left soiled and wet, soiled pants on the bedroom floor, overpowering stench of urine in the room)
The person I visited has been unshaven,
in soiled clothes and smelling of urine on previous occasions. Today he was fine.

The staff are caring and friendly. I think the standard of meals could improve with less fried starters ie fish cakes, spring rolls, and seem more repetitive this year.

The cleanliness has improved since recruiting a housekeeper.

I feel that Monarch floor miss out on entertainment and need stimulation.

It was not an easy decision for Mum to give up her flat in sheltered accommodation to go into care. Alexandra Grange gave me the confidence that Mum would be looked after, arranging the transfer from hospital to the Home.

If I have any concerns, staff are always very approachable and willing to act

on them. Mum is cared for with patience, dignity and affection. I would not want her to be anywhere else. Staff welcome me whenever I choose to visit and appreciate my feedback. Mum tells me that she is always treated well.

She has settled in but is hesitant to take part in activities because of her deafness and lack of dexterity in her hands. Staff try to encourage her to socialise with other residents and join in activities. We enjoyed the recent Open Day and visit from a local Ukulele group.

The cost is high but worth it for the relief of knowing Mum is safe and I have had the day-to-day responsibility for her health and care lifted from my shoulders, for which I am very appreciative.

My Husband has been a resident of Alexandra Grange since December 2015 and we have always found his care to be first class. They take great of residents grooming, his nails and hair are always clean and tidy and the staff show great consideration towards physical and emotional well being. There are
activities every day of the week and regular trips out. The food is excellent and well monitored. The staff are in regular contact with our family.

Current Review Score: 9.9 (9.899)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 9.9 (9.899) out of 10 for Hallmark Alexandra Grange is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  1. The Average Rating is 4.9 out of 5 from 25 Reviews in the last 24 months.
  2. The score for the number of positive Reviews is 5.0 out of 5 from 25 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  1. 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months. The Average Rating of 4.899 for Hallmark Alexandra Grange is calculated as follows: ( (268 Excellents x 5) + (28 Goods x 4) + (1 Satisfactorys x 3) ) ÷ 297 Ratings = 4.899
  2. 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5'). The 5 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Hallmark Alexandra Grange is based on 25 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    1. 4 points are available for the first 20 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews, 0.05 Points for the next five Positive Reviews, and finally 0.025 Points for the next ten Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.050, 7th = 0.050, 8th = 0.050, 9th = 0.050, 10th = 0.050, 11th = 0.025, 12th = 0.025, 13th = 0.025, 14th = 0.025, 15th = 0.025, 16th = 0.025, 17th = 0.025, 18th = 0.025, 19th = 0.025, 20th = 0.025) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 = 4
    2. 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 58 registered maximum number of service users is 11.6, which has been reached with 25 Positive reviews. Points = 1
  3. When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.
  4. If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.
