Kirkwood Court Care Home

After 18 months of visiting the home and spending six to eight hours per day there, it seems to me that staff spend a great deal of their time filling in residents' files when their time could be better spent looking after the residents themselves. Cleaning is also a cause for concern, for example, beds are not moved to clean underneath, bins in toilets are not emptied and beds are left un-made all day. I think that the staff do a wonderful job and 90% of them are caring and hard-working, unfortunately, paperwork seems to be one of the top priorities whereas the uppermost priority should always be the residents (please sort out or upgrade paperwork issues).

Mum has been a resident at Kirkwood Court Care Home for a year now and from the warm welcome she received on day one, up to now the care and support she has received from all members of the team has been exceptional.

I have no hesitation in recommending Kirkwood Court to others - and did so just last week!

Overall, the care provided is excellent. There are lots of activities at Kirkwood for the residents to be part of if they desire. The food appears to be good. There could be more regular tea trolleys in the afternoon.

My arrival and stay at Kirkwood has been very good. Nothing is excellent, but the home and staff have been very good.

My experience living in my care home has been very good. Treatment has been excellent, treatment has been very, very good.

My dad has only been a resident in Kirkwood Court Care Home for one week but in this short time, the care he received is second to none. From the initial meeting with the manager, who is herself a very professional and caring person, to his initial first day with his introduction to the staff members. The staff are the most caring, friendly and lovely people I have met and are a credit to the care home. We, as a family, are so pleased with the care and compassion he has been given and hope he has a long and happy stay.

From the first day my mother-in-law went into Kirkwood, the relief and happiness were immense. The wonderful care started the minute she went in. To know she is very safe and very, very happy - it's fantastic peace of mind. This is all because of the amazing staff. They genuinely care for the residents.

Staff are always smiling and pleasant, very loving and caring towards residents. Mam is enjoying life again, mixing with people and having fun.

All staff have greeted me with friendliness and look after all residents with love and respect. My brother likes his new home and finds all the staff treat him well.

There is always a lovely atmosphere when I visit Kirkwood Court and this can be attributed to the staff who are always friendly and welcoming. The accommodation is excellent and the grounds are lovely. My father has dementia and is unable to communicate his needs clearly but the carers have taken the time to get to know his personality, likes and dislikes so they are able to address his needs and wishes. The well-being coordinator arranges a variety of fun and engaging activities and entertainment which Dad enjoys. I am very grateful that all family members are involved in discussing his care and the carers keep us well informed with frequent telephone calls. I feel confident that he is treated kindly and that he is in a safe environment.

Both myself and other family members, who visit my elderly father at Kirkwood Court Care Home on a regular basis, have always been very impressed by the high level of care offered and delivered. All of his carers are dedicated to looking after my father with the utmost patience and attention to detail. They listen to both his requests, and ours, and are always on hand with a smile and a cheerful disposition. The home itself is clean and immaculate and the food served is delicious and nutritious. I know that my father is very happy and settled at Kirkwood Court Care Home and I could not wish for a safer and more caring environment for him.

My mum had dementia and was fortunate enough (after research by my wife) to come to spend her last 2 years in Kirkwood Court. It was a difficult time because of COVID. The staff at Kirkwood became her family when we couldn’t be there. They were amazing. The care, kindness, consideration, tolerance, acceptance and understanding shown to a confused 88-90-year-old were outstanding. We, as her family in the UK and abroad, were also supported. Her end-of-life care was as good as it could ever possibly be and I speak as a very senior NHS consultant. Accepting that a parent has to go into long-term care can never be easy but I cannot thank Kirkwood Court enough for looking after my mum so well. I shall be forever grateful.

My mother received the best of care from the staff in the home. Their patience, kindness and skills helped to make her final years comfortable, safe ad positive. The home has a lovely feeling residents are well supported and treated with dignity and love. Thanks to all the staff for their care and attention.

My mam was admitted to Kirkwood Court in January and I can honestly say it was the most upsetting time for us all at home. A care home is the last place she would want to be and we were extremely anxious about what lay ahead. So far our experience has been fantastic! The staff are amazing they are so friendly, caring and constantly interacting with her and I feel that she is well looked after. The home is clean and nice but more importantly, it has a lovely feel. There is often music playing, people chatting and the sound of laughter the staff keep me updated on how she’s been and speak to me like friends. I can’t recommend Kirkwood Court enough! 5*.

Although I was not able to visit my friend due to the pandemic I found your staff very helpful. I was able to know how my friend was when I telephoned. I was also informed of any decisions that were made. I found the arrangements for visiting were very good - when it was allowed. I was pleased to see my friend was able to take part in the various activities through the photographs that were taken and displayed.

Communication improving with regular resident/management skype meetings. Feedback on residents' well-being occurring. Getting easier to visit my relative.

Beautiful room with private facilities. Adequate and varied food. Very clean. Helpful and friendly. Excellent and friendly care. Lovely well kept garden to exercise in.
