Kirkwood Court Care Home

My friend is always happy when we speak. She says there is always something going on and everyone is always friendly.

Dad has been a resident at Kirkwood for 3 years now, and during that time, I think it's fair to say that there have been quite a few changes in all respects, however, the current manager and staff are doing a great job, especially during these difficult times.

Every area of the home is and always has been kept spotlessly clean, smells fresh and is very nicely furnished. Dad has a lovely spacious room, he says the food and snacks are good with plenty of choices and there are activities provided by the well-being coordinators (who are also doing a fab job in these trying times) who wish to partake in them.

As I live at the other end of the country, I have only been able to visit Dad once face to face since lockdown in March, as the home is taking every step to remain Covid-free, but it's comforting to know that Dad is well looked after and safe, and they contact me whenever there is something I need to know about him or his care.

Just visited my mam today. Staff supported my mam as her hearing is bad. My visit was enjoyable as I haven't seen her since lockdown. The support from the wellbeing girls was amazing. Thank you all for everything you do.

My mum became a resident at Kirkwood over two years ago. As you can imagine it's extremely difficult leaving your mum with complete strangers. As soon as Mum moved in she was like family. The staff treat her like they would their own mum. It's such a relief that she's cared for so well and is thriving in the atmosphere there. She's made lovely friends there too. She is treated with respect and dignity at all times. Fast forward to COVID. The activity planner has been so accomodating as far as arranging Skype or Zoom chats with Mum - makes my week! A huge thank you to the receptionist. I mentioned that Mum was sad as she couldn't get her roots done as the hairdresser wasn't coming in. Without missing a beat she said I'll do it for her! She actually went out and bought a box dye and did Mum's hair! Mum was over the moon! And that's the type of people they are at Kirkwood. Salt of the Earth. Highly recommend.

My late partner was admitted to Kirkwood suffering from dementia and other conditions that come with old age. From the moment she was admitted the staff were unbelievably kind and caring towards her. Nothing was too much trouble to them in making sure my partner was comfortable. Due to the pesky virus, I was unable to visit face to face with her and although you are able to skype with the residents I did not use this option. I could phone any time and was always put through to the staff member who was looking after my partner. They always gave a totally honest account of how things were going and when possible always let me chat with my partner. I had a few years earlier been a regular visitor to see an old friend who in her words said "this place is magic they treat me like royalty" Nuff said Kirkwood was and is the best in my opinion.

On the survey I've put good for activities, when this is happening its excellent...but there have been months when there was very little...it has to be consistent.

Place kept very tidy and clean.

I find the overall view of Kirkwood excellent. The staff are patient and kind to my brother, they go out of their way to help in every way. This means a lot to me and my family.

The short time that my step-dad was in this care home the service and care for him was outstanding. I have to say as I have worked in a few care homes that this is the best one I have been in for the care and fantastic staff. So I would like to say a big thanks from the family.

Dad has only recently been admitted (2 days) so a long term appraisal isn't possible, but first impressions are that the home and staff are excellent. The staff seem justifiably proud of the home and endeavour to provide the best care possible.

Staff are so kind and thoughtful and patient with my father and his family in a difficult situation. We all were treated with dignity and respect. My father made a good recovery following his respite time in the home and that is due largely due to the care and support of staff and health services.

Kind staff, good food and generally a happy atmosphere.

Mam has been here for 2 years and we are more than happy with the service provided. All issues are dealt with (i.e., health) immediately. As Mam is on the dementia floor we would like to praise all staff, including housekeepers and entertainment. Nothing is too much trouble for them. We leave here after visiting, knowing Mam is in safe hands. Well done everyone.

Everything fine and pleased with everything, especially with the hygiene.

Our Mam was brought to Kirkwood Court as a Respite Resident, she absolutely loves it here, the staff are lovely, always very approachable, her room is lovely, and the day rooms are just as nice. Mam has been out a few times on the minibus with other residents having trips out, which she loves.

In the last week of my Dad's care, everything has 100% improved. Thank you to all the staff for listening to my concerns. Our Dad has changed and needs more attention and at the moment his needs are being 100% met. Thank you for listening.

Our Mam was brought to Kirkwood Court as a Respite Resident, she absolutely loves it here, the staff are lovely, always very approachable, her room is lovely, and the day rooms are just as nice, we attended a music event tonight, was absolutely brilliant, so many residents up dancing, all were singing, including staff, a very enjoyable evening, can't wait until next one, but most of all, thank you so much for taking such good care of our Mam

My husband has been a resident here since November 2016 and I am very happy with the care he has received since coming here. The staff all look after him very well and they are friendly and welcoming. I feel comfortable knowing that he is safe and well looked after.

My Brother has been a resident in Kirkwood Court for the past three weeks and it has surprised me how quickly he has settled to his new surroundings. He was made very welcome by both the manager and the staff. The rooms are immaculate and he likes the food, which is of very good standard. Most of all the staff are very caring and understanding and nothing is too much trouble for them.

My Dad has been in Kirkwood for 4 months, he has settled well due to amazing staff. He has also put of 7 kilos of weight which we are very happy about. He is now a permanent resident which gives us both peace of mind. I never thought my Dad would like living in a care home but, because of the staff, (carers and housekeeping), he does and at 91 years old that's amazing.
