This was Mum's 3rd stay at Cotman House (temporary respite care) and she had a wonderful time. To say that she was reticent to go to a care home at all initially is an understatement having spent her entire working life as a social worker arranging care packages for the elderly. I think it speaks volumes about the place therefore that she now looks forward to her stays. The staff from the outset have been friendly and efficient, and Mum's particular request to have a room where she can see the sea has always been met. She has made friends at Cotman and takes part in activities during her stays - it has become a real home from home for her which means that I, as her main carer, can enjoy guilt-free respite time without worrying whether her needs are being met. Communication throughout has also been first-rate. Highly recommended.

My husband chose to stay in respite care as we moved home. Following a year of traumatic poor health he felt uneasy about the impact and chaos of the moving period. I sought a care home in the area with high-quality amenities and quality care. Cotman House was very clear, clean and professional in its delivery. The staff were friendly and courteous and my husband was well cared for.

Mum has been making a slow recovery from having pneumonia at the end of last year and in February she had a nasty viral cough. The staff have been wonderful, helping her regain more strength and independence in her room. She’s content with the food.

Slowly we’re moving towards spring so hopefully she can improve more with everyone’s support and the weather!

The staff at Cotman House have worked very hard and with great warmth, humour and humanity to care for my mother who has been there for three years. Despite the many additional pressures of the pandemic, they have not only managed to provide basic care but have also organised countless activities which delivered with great joy. Under their care my mother has grown in strength and trust, engaging with others, taking an interest in the outside world again, and putting on weight! The staff have an approach that respects the individual needs and inclinations of the residents whilst also setting boundaries and goals for wellness, which is not always easy to achieve but is always done with a smile. I can't thank them all enough for restoring my mother to me.

I cannot fault this superbly run care home. My auntie has been a resident for almost five years and whilst she is no longer able to make use of all it has to offer, the care she receives is exemplary.
The home maintains a high standard of cleanliness and the staff are professional as well as friendly. I feel like part of the family.
The carers show a great deal of respect towards my auntie who relies on them for every aspect of her daily life. She is no longer able to do anything for herself.
The manager and the seniors are good at communicating with me when the need arises.
Although my auntie is unable to participate now, I am always impressed with the entertainment programme and the little touches on special occasions throughout the year.

I cannot fault this care home and the staff that work there. Excellent!

Cotman House is a lovely, warm and welcoming place to stay/visit.
My family member is very well looked after and knows that they can call on staff if they have any concerns.
There are lots of activities that they encourage the residents to join in with.

The menu is varied, and the food is well-cooked, and the staff are very friendly.

My granddad spent the last ten months of his life at Cotman House Care Home. As a family, we felt so comforted that he was being looked after with the utmost care and dignity by the wonderful care team. We could not fault the communication and it was clear how loved he was as a resident. He thought so much of all the staff and loved their company. The team are amazing and we can not thank them enough.

I went to the home following a total knee replacement. My room had a hospital-type bed, en suite, TV and a good view from the window. It met all my recovery needs. The staff were helpful (but rather busy) and whilst all the meals were not all to my taste I did have a couple of particularly good ones. No complaints!

When shown around the home we were blinded by the lovely facilities the home had to offer. However, once dad came here it became obvious that the actual home felt far too big to give good individual care. We were also told the home specialised in end-of-life care which was also not true in our experience. The doctor confirmed dad was dying and we should be given access but the manager decided she would be in control of that, not a doctor. At the time seemed quite understaffed as left at door waiting to be allowed in several times, especially at the weekends. Lower management staff tried to be helpful with reasonable liaison when able to talk to them. However higher management was not very empathetic and seemed very power happy wanting to control things when not even there i.e. on holiday, lower management had no leeway. Overall communication was very poor.

My beloved uncle has been a resident of Cotman House Care Home for over a year now and we have been so very grateful for the care and attention he receives. He is happy and content which is such a blessing at 99-years-old! He is not one to socialize much, never has been, but does enjoy the contact with his carers and staff. We have been pleased to work around the Covid restrictions to make sure we maintained visits all through the pandemic and Cotman House has done its utmost to keep both my uncle and the other residents safe and sound. It is a real comfort to the family to know that his needs are being met. He has a beautiful room with a stunning view out to sea, he enjoys the variety of meals and his daily newspaper.
In an ideal world, my uncle would still be home with us but, as that isn't possible, this is the best home from home he could have.

I can't emphasize enough how grateful we are that my uncle is so well attended to by staff who seem genuinely interested in his well-being.

I last visited my mother-in-law at the end of May and she was well and very comfortable.

The manager and her staff at Cotman House Care Home are always attentive to Mum’s needs and available to talk to me if I have any specific questions. The staff know Mum very well and she feels as I do, a close relationship with them and gratitude for all they do for her. It’s her home.

I have found Cotman House Care Home staff helpful and informative, particularly over the last two years when visiting guidelines have varied so much. I have been able to keep in regular touch with the resident I visit as part of the link with a church visiting team, although the resident is a friend for many years. It has been helpful, despite the non-face-to-face visiting at times, that I have been able to link in different ways. I have found my desire to maintain contact, whilst hard with guidelines imposed from authorities beyond the residential home, the staff have endeavoured to help me solve issues. Recently, with the reintroduction of open visiting, it has been good to see the staff, thank them for going above and beyond and surviving this most unique and challenging period. Keeping my friend active and protecting her has been achieved successfully.

Mum has now been in Cotman House for nearly 7 years. She is very happy there and the care she receives is exemplary. Her various medical conditions mean she needs care and monitoring all the time. She is encouraged to take part in activities and the weekly written programme means she knows what is happening, when and where, which helps her memory. The activities she takes part in are many and varied and are suited to the time of year and current events e.g. the Jubilee was planned for, decorations were made and cream tea was enjoyed by all. However, my favourite remains the annual Maypole Dance, which seems to get more creative every year. It is lovely to see how many staff willingly get involved with activities.
