My mother has lived in Cotman House for 9 1/2 years. She has always been very well looked after and treated with respect. The carers have always been happy to answer any questions. They have dealt really well with the coronavirus pandemic given their all to keep the residents safe and well. Mum has continued to look well and happy when I have seen her. Thank you all.

My mother moved into Cotman House in June 2020. We have been very pleased with the care my mother has received, albeit we have little first-hand insights since we cannot visit her except in the supervised visiting room. However, our impression from our conversations with mum and the helpful and pleasant approach of staff is that the home is run by the caring, hard-working staff. Mum is full of praises for the wonderful food, and she really appreciates the wide range of regular activities. She says the activity leaders are very good and has joined in a huge range of activities, including things she wouldn't previously have thought of doing. She has settled happily, and we are grateful to the staff for helping her with this.

Of course, I have only been inside Cotman House at the entrance and just inside the designated room for visits. My mother came into the home earlier this year, upset she had to leave her own home, not feeling well, and having significant visual difficulties. All these things are now in the past, as when I speak to her, she is happy and chatty on the phone, or FaceTime or for our 1/2 hour visits. I just wish she would participate in the activities offered, but her choice is to stay in her room. She’s very happy with the food and has become used to the timetable. She has always liked structure and she likes to follow her own schedule.

The staff are great and she seems to get along with everyone, not wanting to single out anyone in particular, saying they are all good. Thank you all!

The management and staff have coped very well during 2020 with all that has been thrown at them and the residents whilst still bringing smiles to everyone's faces.

The activities that have been organised has emphasised the togetherness through all levels of staff and the residents.

The standard of care which my uncle receives is very good.
The staff are all kind and very welcoming.
The home, itself, is so bright and clean, and everybody seems happy.

I am very pleased with all the service I have received, and the staff keep me well informed about my uncles care.

My mother has been in the home since just before lockdown. Despite all the problems associated with the virus, I feel very comfortable that she is looked after well and with dignity. Visits have been facilitated so as to keep residents safe while allowing family contact to help residents' mental health and where that was not possible staff have helped with emails. Skype and phone calls. Mum loves her full English each morning which is served with a flourish and ceremonial dome lifting. The lunch and supper menus are varied and interesting. She does not want to participate in craft-type activities but enjoys the weekly cinema and occasional opportunities to sing. The staff encourages her to join in but allow her to chose for herself to do what she prefers. Her hair and nails have never been so well cared for. Her room has a lovely view of the sea and the underfloor heating is great for when she gets out of bed in the night. My occasional concerns have been dealt with sensitively.

The staff at Cotman house have provided my sister with a safe and caring home in which to live. My sister was very poorly and in the hospital before being moved to Cotman House and since then I have been able to relax and know she is safe and well looked after in every respect. My wife and I are particularly grateful to all the staff for their commitment to the welfare of the residents during this incredibly difficult year. Thank you.

We visited my cousin for the first time for many months and were delighted to find her looking so well. She has settled very well at Cotman House and this is because she is now having meals that are appropriate for her condition, her general wellbeing has been greatly improved and has allowed her medication to be reduced.

Because the COVID restrictions do not allow visitors to access the all of facilities provided, it is difficult to give a full review of the items below.

I cannot speak highly enough about the facility of Cotman House and especially the management and all the careers there. My mum came in as an alternative to hospital admission with complicated care needs both physical, mental and cognitive. The care was extraordinary and I must say I have never seen Mum so well as once she’d settled there. Even despite her decline she was happy and wonderfully looked after while a resident.

My Mum arrived at Cotman House on 1st April 2020 after having surgery for a broken hip as she was too unwell to return home. She stayed until the end of August and the care that she received throughout an extremely difficult and challenging time was amazing. She was clearly very happy and well looked after and we felt very reassured that she was being extremely well looked after at a time where we were not able to visit her.
All staff on every phone call kept us very well informed about her progress and nothing was too much trouble for them.

Once garden visits were allowed this was very well organised and all the rules of the visits were clearly communicated to the family.

I just want to express my gratitude and thanks to everyone at Cotman House. Their care and hard work during this pandemic has been brilliant. The staff are very obviously well-led and this has shown in the care my father has received since he came into their care in February. I am also impressed with all the hard work that has gone into making provision for the family to visit. My father is happy and well cared for which after the loss of my mother is a burden lifted. Pass on our thanks to everyone and keep doing what you are doing it is appreciated.

Kind regards.

During these unforeseen circumstances (COVID-19) you can imagine the stress and worry that has put on our families. Cotman House has really changed that for the better. It provides above and beyond care for their residents, including my father. He is extremely well looked after and enjoys his time there. The home itself is beautiful and my father are very well looked after there.

I would recommend this care home for many great reasons being the care they provide and also the great support and communication they give to our family.

Cotman House have been fantastic at welcoming and integrating my grandad into the home, especially during such challenging times (Coronavirus impact). They’ve been very responsive to our contact and requests, as well as keeping us informed with how he’s doing. Finally, they’ve been very helpful in doing all they can to help us keep some sort of contact with him, via phone/FaceTime.

I now can’t wait until we can visit the home and see him in person.

Staff are friendly and welcoming. Manager, deputy and office staff always available to deal with concerns and usually to a high standard. Over the current crisis, they have been very helpful and provided Facetime so we can see our mum, who has difficulty communicating verbally. They have read her letters we have sent and passed on all necessities we have dropped at the home. The carers work so hard and always treat us with kindness and respect. I do think however that carers should be left to their roles as carers and not kitchen or laundry duties. I know staff do support each other but they are sometimes just too busy to be carrying out these roles and I know they would like more time to spend with residents.

My father entered Cotman House following the sudden death of my mother. The staff have done an excellent job in helping him to adjust to his new living arrangements. He has settled quickly and I although I am only able to talk to him via the phone due to visiting restrictions around Covid, he seems more positive in his outlook than I would have expected given how difficult the last few months have been for him.
The management have promised to lift the current draconian restrictions around any visiting/contact the moment it is possible to do so, showing an awareness of how important contact with loved ones is for residents wellbeing. I really look forward to this being in the very near future.

Thank you to all at Cotman who do such a good job.

Mum has been so happy at this home for three years. Now that she has moved to end of life care, we have been overwhelmed by the love and care that surrounds her and our family. Part of the reason that Mum had no fear about this phase of her life is because she had already noticed the respect and love the carers gave to other terminally ill residents. She used to say 'I know they'll take good care of me', and you are doing so, thank you.

My mum was a resident at Cotman House for three years and was extremely happy for the whole of her stay. The view of the sea from her window cheered her immensely, and the staff were constantly popping in to make sure she was comfortable and had everything she needed. I could not name any particular member of staff as they are all lovely. The food is made by chefs on the premises, and is appetising and tailored to the needs of each resident. The staff plan great activities every day and trips out to the locality. Mum particularly enjoyed the arts, where the staff created new and inventive things to do every time, and she was proud of her little artworks. If you are thinking of becoming a resident for yourself/a relative you could not do better. I have seen how the staff have cared for residents who might do repetitive things that another care home might find annoying, but here they manage it with a great sense of humour and kindness. Mum could not have found a better place. Thanks so much!

Cotman is an excellent care home. I've had experience of one other. Staff ignored us. Here the staff are always attentive. My buzzer is answered in a short time. Attention is given to my needs. I never feel lonely. There is always someone around. The food is good and varied. I always get what I ask for. Very happy staff, happy together, no grizzling.

Cotman is in a beautiful location with lovely gardens and lovely views. It is very peaceful and calm. Staff organise daily activities to stimulate and entertain residents and build relationships. My mum has enjoyed outings to the seaside, shopping, a concert and the viewing point. She enjoys visitors organised by the home, such as toddler visits, musical concerts, therapy dogs and films. There are regular fun activities, such as flower arranging, arts and crafts and keep fit. The kind staff and stimulating environment have enabled my mum to enjoy a fulfilled safe and happy period of her life.
