Review from Carol O (Daughter of Resident) published on 18 October 2023 Submitted via Website
Overall Experience

My Mother was assessed by telephone for respite with a view for permanent residency. She had later stages of Vascular Dementia with some behavioural issues which the home was aware of. We were told they could cater for her needs. Within 5 days we were told by email that they could not meet her needs and she would have to leave without any explanation. We were happy with the care she received from the care assistants but the management and admin team were totally unprofessional and lacking in communication skills. So despite what it says on their website that they specialise in Dementia care, they cannot cater for the later stages as was the case with my mother.

Excellent, welcoming atmosphere made my father relaxed and at ease as soon as he walked through the door.
He enjoyed two weeks of respite care and returned home a lot fitter having been well-fed and entertained by the various activities available.

Great staff, helpful, caring and very understanding.

We were very happy with our experience of Barchester Elm Bank Care Home. My mother moved into Elm Bank eight weeks prior to her death in August 2023. The staff were very supportive of us, keeping us informed and were welcoming, taking the time to talk with us. They took excellent care of her, taking time to find out her food preferences and hobbies. They encouraged her to participate and hobbies. They encouraged her to participate in planned activities as much as possible. Thank you.

The team at Barchester Elm Bank Care Home have looked after my mum for six years. She is 100 years old and has dementia.

My father who was 102 years old yesterday moved to the care home in 2023. The care they both receive is excellent, both are happy and content which isn't exactly what a son needs for peace of mind.

From the initial enquiry, the staff were friendly and welcoming.
My mother-in-law thoroughly enjoyed her stay of two weeks.
Her well-being improved, as did her appetite.

Would definitely recommend.

My auntie required respite care. The staff were all lovely. They treated my aunt with dignity, respect and were professional. My aunt required pureed food and the kitchen staff delivered her food as requested. I wish to thank the kitchen staff for their excellence. Sadly my auntie died after being in Elm Banks's care for 5 days. The staff at the time were professional and compassionate. Thoroughly recommend Elm Banks care delivery and all of the staff.

My mother has been here for four to five years. I live in South Africa so can only visit occasionally, especially since Covid. We have been comforted by the fact that Mum has been cared for so exceptionally well. She has dementia but seems very happy and well. My father has now also entered the home at the age of 101 and is also happy here. Mum is 100 years old on the 18th of April and the home has been amazing in celebrating this wonderful event with the family. As they did with Dad's 100th birthday. We have nothing but praise for all the staff. A big thank you!

Thank you so much for your review and kind words. Birthdays at Elm Bank are always special occasions, but turning 100 is definitely and extra special event. It was an absolute pleasure for chef to create her cake, and we all had a wonderful time singing Happy Birthday and hosting the party. I will be sure to share your comments with the team.

Thank you so much for the care, compassion and empathy you gave my relative up until the end of his life. He loved the home and the staff. You were also very supportive of my mum. You went above and beyond your duties. For their 25th wedding anniversary in November, you provided a private area for them to have a meal together with candles on the table and making them a cake. Christmas Day arrangements were made so mum was able to have Christmas dinner with my relative. My mum and I cannot thank you enough.

The care home felt high quality as it consistently reaches the goals a care home is required to meet. Staff were hardworking and compassionate. Facilities were at a high standard, and the scenery had a nature-themed feel. The activities were good, and I saw several people in the rooms where the activities were held. I would recommend this place as it achieves the criteria that a care home should and goes beyond.
