Review from C B (Respite Resident) published on 6 September 2022 Submitted via Postal Card
Overall Experience

I contacted Elm Bank in regards to respite (post-op) care and was warmly welcomed by the Customer Liaison Assistant and her team. From the moment I arrived the staff have been overwhelming in terms of care, attention as well as food, drink and basics. I have spent time with many of the residents, and all have nothing but praise for the staff in what is a physically and emotionally challenging role. Thank you so much for getting me back on my feet. I will never forget your kindness and support.

A beautiful place. Take very good care of all residents and was able to work with them within the home. The resident I spoke to at Elm Bank Care Home said it's a lovely place and overall enjoyed herself and her stay here.

Elm Bank Care Home, you are fantastic. From the reception staff to the Bluebell staff and the maintenance crew. We moved my mother and father-in-law in there and only gave the staff 24-hour notice. The manager and her excellent staff were beyond to ensure this happened. Turning one bedroom into a lovely lounge. This has made their transition into moving into full-time care so much easier. We cannot praise them highly enough. Thank you, Elm Bank.

My mother stayed in respite care for 6 weeks at Elm Bank, and from the moment she arrived, she was looked after properly by the whole team. She enjoyed the activities, especially the singing. The two main carers for my mum were very caring and kind and treated my mum with dignity; they were patient and really go to know her. My mum couldn't wish for a better care home, and I'm hoping she will return very soon.

We have supported a family friend to move into Elm Bank Care Home and have had an amazing experience. My friend settled in straight away, support was provided by the maintenance team to get her room looking person-centered with all her own furniture to feel at home. We have enjoyed private dining and lots of events, thank you to everyone especially the ladies on Willow Walk!

Generally, the accommodation is very good and clean. I do feel the reception area is not very welcoming as staff are hidden behind a high-level desk who then have to walk out of sight to open the door to let you in.

The care given is also good, however; there are odd times when it can slip when room cleanliness is lacking, and clothes go missing giving the impression that they are understaffed.

My mum has been at Elm Bank for about 6-years, and she is very happy there. She Loves the activities and requires that I plan my visits so as to avoid them.
She is very fond of the staff and praises them highly. I always know when her particular favourites are away on holiday. She won’t go as far as to say she misses them but the fact that she remarks on their absence is enough to say she does.
Her health initially actually improved, and over the years, she had maintained that and is now in her 90s.

My thanks to all the staff who care for her and who have been there for both of us for longer than just the past 12-months.

Thank you, Barchester Elm Bank Care Home. You have been brilliant these last few days. My father was seriously ill in hospital, and you welcomed my mother to your home and have supported her and the rest of our family, including Dad, so well. My father was a resident at Elm Bank from December 2019 until his death two years later January 2022. I can honestly say that the care he received from the staff at Elm Bank enriched his life and probably gave him months more than he would have had.

His new life in the home was a happy one and as you would have wanted it for your loved one. Once again thank you to Elm Bank for giving my father the best care during his 96,97 and 98 years of his life.

Review from Diane D (Daughter of Resident) published on 21 December 2021 Submitted via Postal Card

Our review was very reassuring, helpful and informative. My dad's care plan was discussed in detail e.g. his medication, weight, food and drink intake, movement/mobility difficulties, time spent in his room/lounge/restaurant, etc. Any questions/concerns we, (my husband and I) have, were answered and a few missing items from his room were noted. We left the review feeling positive and happy about the care my dad is receiving. Just to explain when I am concerned about the value for money box. Like many unfortunate "old" people who suffer from dementia, we had to sell my dad's home in order to pay for his monthly bill of £4,842.42 (November 2021). We have been informed by Barchester that this could increase by 9%. We understand that costs have increased, but as much as we want my dad to live a long life (he is 94 now), the money will not last forever! I hope you understand our concerns.
