Located next to Broxtowe Country Park in Nuthall, Acer Court offers professional and expert care for older people looking for residential care, dementia services or short-term respite care. Its sister home, Alder House is located next door.

The home specialises in dementia care and encourages physical activity and stimulating activities to keep residents engaged.

The care home offers activities and games, a hair salon, laundry, a greenhouse and potting shed, a minibus for trips out and much more.

Communication from management I feel could be improved. Attended relatives' meeting in June, items mentioned on agenda, no further update received. Finding postal items are not being received eg postcards, new hearing aid. Finding we have to ask and investigate rather than our relatives' needs communicated
to us.

Staff are very friendly, helpful, and always willing to answer questions. Mum has settled in well despite concerns of moving in. This has to be a reflection of how well the staff care for her. The only point from a relative perspective is better communication from the home would be appreciated.

Dad has settled nicely at Acer Court, he appears very relaxed and at home. I feel the home and staff want to work with me and try and understand us as a family in order to best care for Dad.

My mother died end of February after over six years at Acer Court. My mum got reasonable care in those years. However, I have been very disappointed with the complete lack of interest in my mum after her death from dementia. We got a hastily written condolence card in her Room two days after her death
as we collected her belongings. I informed them of her funeral arrangements and said if anyone wanted to write a few words to email them for inclusion in the funeral. This email was ignored and there has been zero interest from the home or any show of respect at her passing, despite telling them to stop sending me the weekly activities sheet I am currently still receiving them.

Mum has been in hospital recently. Prior to being admitted the home kept me updated on her health and called me on her wellbeing when she was in hospital. They care deeply for her and also she missed them whilst she was in there. This shows the friendships and bonds that are formed.

Greeted by friendly, helpful staff. If any problems occur (eg falls) am contacted by the home regarding this. A varied choice of activities and entertainment is available if participating is desired. Meals are varied and served promptly. During lockdown, due to covid-19, testing was always readily available.
During the difficult times, overall a satisfactory home for residents to spend their time in.

Like many people (I expect) I was very nervous about finding a care home for my Mum. After careful research, Acer Court was on my shortlist. When I visited it immediately 'felt right'. Two and a half years later I know I made a good decision. I am very pleased with Acer Court. Are they perfect? No -
who is? But they are very good with all the important things and my Mum is safe and well cared for.

When mother was still living at home I got to see many other care homes when she was in respite care. This was one of those care homes, and it was by far the best.

First discovered Acer Court when organising respite care for my mother from 2010. Of the 5 or 6 other care homes we tried this is by far the best and when she was committed to long-term care, we were delighted there was accommodation available here. Been here 5 years now - no complaints.

I am extremely happy with the care given to my mother. Access now, although restricted is very good. My mother is always clean, well dressed, well-fed, and not agitated.

This has obviously been an incredibly difficult year but the staff have been helpful and done their best over this very stressful and difficult period. It is a lovely, clean home, with good food, lovely rooms, and care.

Mum went into Acer Court for one week's respite care so we could have a few days' break. The first since her dementia diagnosis. Mum seems to have had a very positive experience and has only good things to say about the staff, the food, activities, etc. We would not hesitate to entrust her to Acer Court
again; in fact, are discussing it with Mum now (having just collected her)!

Throughout, my association with Acer Court Care Home has been very positive. The administration have gone out of their way to allow unusual allowances due to me living far from Nottingham and the care staff are looking after my mother efficiently, caringly and within the strict guidelines of the care
commission rules. At 101 years, my mother is being given a quality of life beyond that she would have had living in the community albeit at her cost.

We visited from Hertfordshire as my nan took very poorly. The home were extremely accommodating under difficult lockdown/Covid restrictions and allowed us to spend valuable time with my nan across several days.

My name is Gemma and I am the manager here at Acer Court. I have worked for Avery for over 8 years now developing my skills from a deputy manager in a busy Avery nursing home, in Staffordshire, to becoming a successful manager at sister home Alder House and now transferring to Acer Court.


I am from Stoke on Trent and I have worked in the healthcare industry for 18 years, completing most roles that you would find in a regular care home and working my way up to the manager role completing many qualifications along the way. My main experience, knowledge and background is in Dementia care and this is an area of care that I am most passionate about.


Outside of my career, I love to go to the gym Subsequently, this has led to me signing up for many charity events such as white-collar boxing, half marathons and various assault courses. I just love to help people, in any way I can.
