My husband had sadly been kept in the hospital for 17 weeks as he tried to recover from Sepsis. He was treated appallingly there, without respect and care, ignoring his dementia. He was deteriorating so quickly they found him a care space at Oak Grange.
I was very impressed when I was shown around
this home. Unfortunately, although the care appeared good, many times when I visited there was a shortage of qualified staff on the ward and my hubby was showing a high level of fear and distress. He was often dirty and his urine bag wasn't emptied making walking impossible. I found him walking around without slippers on a number of occasions because one/both of them had disappeared. There was no real concern. On transferring to a home nearer to me, many carefully named belongings weren't sent with him. Indeed his case contained a whole variety of clothes, including a lady's blouse, that didn't belong to him. There was no concern when I reported this to the home.

From the moment I walked into Oak Grange, I knew that it was the home where my Dad would be cared for in the best possible way.
The residents are treated not just as old people with dementia, but as people still very much living and there is an emphasis on knowing all about the person, their life
and interests.
All staff are utterly professional and genuinely interested in and caring for both residents and their families and take the time to speak with and listen to any concerns the family may have which are always acted upon quickly.
The activity staff and programme is a blessing and second to none. My Dad may not remember the activity shortly after taking part, but in the moments of the activity he has gained much pleasure, been stimulated and able to engage with others.
Oak Grange has lovely facilities in my Dad's unit, which creates a genuinely homely environment: the spacious bedroom with en-suite, wide carpeted corridors with more than one corridor, beautifully furnished sitting room, garden views from the bedroom and dining room, access to a secure outside space and not forgetting the super cinema room for entertainment!
I am and will be forever grateful that Oak Grange exists and that my Dad is able to live there.

The most important part of this review to me is that my husband has not fretted for me or his home. I can rest easy knowing that he is content.
I think the activities are wonderful and so much care goes into them.

My dad always looks well and clean. Staff are always friendly. If staff have concerns they will always let me know or contact me. Dad has been in lots of homes and I can honestly say this is the best.

The home is satisfactory overall, some aspects better than others.
The majority of staff are friendly and caring. One incident of poor attitude/conduct towards my friend has been reported. Staffing levels appear to be inadequate - the staff appear to be run off their feet.
My friend's privacy is
constantly invaded by other residents despite many complaints no meaningful action has been taken to address this. This is a major cause of unhappiness and distress to my friend.
It is very positive that rooms are ensuite. Rooms are kept clean, but my friend's room is in need of some basic maintenance to attend to scuffed paintwork and furniture and stained carpet.
Whilst the menu looks appealing, meals when served are disappointing in terms of the quality of ingredients, lack of choice (too much pasta, jacket potato, baked beans) and often reach the room barely warm. The evening meals that I have observed are particularly poor. My friend often returns meals uneaten.

Mum stayed for respite during May and as a family, we were very impressed with the overall care and support provided. The activities were brilliant and we can see a big difference in Mum's communication. The flexible approach to visiting was also very welcome, we were always made to feel very welcome.
Thank you very much for all the support provided, this is the best care home we have ever come across and would highly recommend it for respite care.

I came for one week of respite care and found it satisfactory. My room was very nice, a good size and a large window. The staff were excellent, if you ask, you got it. The bathroom was well fitted out but was not cleaned every day nor were the towels and sheets changed during the week (I did not expect
it done every day!). On the whole, the food was acceptable, very nice puddings, poor soup and always a choice. A lovely warm feeling of caring, always a smile and a happy place to be.

Since first going into Oak Grange Care Home, everybody who works there has shown so much respect towards me. I was helped to settle in and have enjoyed my time here. The room is lovely and spacious and all the staff are lovely and helpful. Nothing has been too much trouble for the community manager

My visits to Oak Grange are met by very caring and committed staff. One of the care workers is the most caring and considerate young woman who in my view goes beyond her role to ensure she has time to listen, engage and value my mum as a person, not a sufferer of dementia, she sees Mum, not dementia.
All the staff are helpful and respectful.

My husband went to Barchester Oak Grange Care Home in Chester for respite care.
It is a beautiful care home, well appointed rooms, lounge and dining areas and a lovely garden giving outside space. The standard of care given by the staff is excellent and in a friendly manner.
all his medications
were administered correctly. He is a fussy eater and the staff ensured he had plenty of his favourite foods. My husband had quite a few visitors during his stay and they were always made to feel welcome.
I can definitely recommend Barchester Oak Grange Care Home.

My mother stayed at Oak Grange for about 10 weeks in early 2023. She had been in hospital before this for 6 weeks with a fractured hip. When she first went to Oak Grange she had very little mobility and needed assistance to get up from bed into a chair. The manager at Oak Grange liaised with community
physiotherapy and was able to ensure that my mother was treated as the priority case that she required.
As a result, she was able to become mobile much more quicker than if her therapy was further delayed. The manager sat in on all consultations with the doctor and physiotherapists and was aware of all medical and therapy developments.
The staff at Oak Grange are very pleasant and helpful. The rooms and facilities are good, with lovely gardens. The overall atmosphere is a calm, welcoming and caring home. Oak Grange is very well run with good food, laundry services etc.

I visit my friend at least 3 times a week. I think this care home is excellent, it's well managed, very clean and security is good, visitor book is laid on the desk and the Bistro is good too. Visitors cannot get into the home sometimes for example on busy weekends but there is a buzzer and staff will
always let you in. There is no smell like some homes have. The dining room is lovely and visitors are always welcome to sit with the resident and you can get a cup of coffee.

Oak Grange has provided an exceptional level of care for my father during a few recent respite stays. Not only is Dad well looked after but the care staff (from carers through to cleaners) go the extra mile to engage and socialise with him. This makes his stays very pleasant, he is both content and
happy, and he has enjoyed a much richer experience than he gets at home. His stay shortly before Christmas was also very memorable, many of the Oak Grange staff made extra efforts to say hello to him when he is back in for respite stays. This provides a very happy and personal environment for him. The food and catering are really exceptional. All lounge and bathing facilities are first-class quality being recently renovated, so it really is a welcoming home from home and Dad is looked after worry-free on my part.

Oak Grange Care Home is an excellent care home, the best I have seen. Being there is like being in a comfortable 4* hotel. The staff are competent and friendly and the facilities are excellent. The garden and the cinema room are great.

My auntie and uncle moved to Oak Grange in July 2022. Oak Grange does not feel like a care home when you walk in. It is beautifully furnished with lots of social areas for visitors and residents to sit in. It feels more like a hotel. My uncle was downstairs in the medical unit, he had MS and was very
ill. He was looked after with such care by the staff, we always knew he was in good hands. He sadly passed away in December but the staff were fantastically supportive in dealing with his end-of-life care and helping us as a family. My auntie is upstairs in the dementia unit and is so happy there. There are so many activities and although she is getting worse with her dementia she is thriving compared to being at home or in the hospital. We cannot thank the staff enough and would definitely recommend the home.

Oak Grange Care Home is a lovely care home that has amazing staff and facilities. The home is run very professionally from the front desk to all carers and management. My dad seems very happy here. One thing I would say is that more staff is needed on Olypic Ward.

In the relatively short time that my dad has lived at Oak Grange, he has really settled and he's happy. As a family, we have no concerns about my dad's care and well-being.     2. 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months.   3. When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.
  4. If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.

Having worked in various care settings and possessing a passion for enhancing the lives of older adults, I bring a wealth of experience and creativity to the role. My primary objective is to create a vibrant and engaging activities programme that caters to the unique interests, abilities and preferences of each Resident.


Together, we will embark on a journey of discovery, enjoyment and companionship. From engaging social events and group outings to stimulating cognitive exercises and creative pursuits, our goal is to ensure that there is always something for everyone to look forward to.


Furthermore, I am here not only as an Activities coordinator but also as a friend and confidant, I encourage open communication, suggestions, and feedback from each Resident and their families.

Hello, my name is Becca and I am the Administration Assistant at Oak Grange, I will likely be one of the first faces you see when you arrive at the home and you’ll always receive a cheery smile and a warm welcome.


I have been part of the team since 2022 when I joined as a part-time General Assistant whilst studying my A Levels. I have worked in most departments so have knowledge from all perspectives and I am able to share this with potential families/residents when they visit.


In September 2023 I was delighted to be appointed as Admin Assistant and the opportunity to continue my education in Business Studies, NVQ Level 3. I feel valued and part of the team and love that I can grow and develop in such a wonderful nurturing environment.
