My Mother has a very complex condition: which can make it difficult at times to help her.
However, staff have been kind and have shown great compassion in dealing with her.
We are so happy that she is being cared for at Mill View,

The staff are generally friendly, helpful, respectful and professional in their attitude towards caring for residents at Mill View. Residents have plenty of opportunities to socialise and participate in recreational activities if they wish to do so. The building and facilities are generally good and
the setting is very peaceful.
However, some parts of the building would benefit from being re-decorated, some of the lighting could be improved.
Reply from Samantha Debenham, Personal Assistant at Mill ViewThank you for your review – we will pass on your kind comments to our team who will be very happy to hear your positive feedback, particularly around the care and activities. In regards to the building, we have an ongoing maintenance and investment to ensure Mill View’s interior and exterior remains at a high standard – this has recently included a complete redecoration of the communal areas on the first floor, and we are also happy to let you know that we are replacing much of the furniture soon too. Of course, if you notice anything that is not up to par in either your resident’s room or in any area of the home, please do let us know and our maintenance and housekeeping team will be happy to assist.

There is a happy atmosphere at Mill View and the staff are attentive, kind and friendly. It’s a huge relief for me to know that my mother is in a safe environment and that her specific needs are being well cared for. She likes her room and enjoys the food and being able to go to the café for coffee
and snacks.

I am very happy with the quality of care and the facilities, plus the availability and responsiveness of the staff. I have no doubt that we made the best choice for Mum.

On the whole, Mill View is a good care home, well designed and staffed.
The food offering could be improved but on the whole, my father is happy there.
Reply from Samantha Debenham, Personal Assistant at Mill ViewThank you for taking the time to submit your feedback and for your kind comments about the home and the team. I’m happy to let you know that we’ve just updated our menus with input from residents about what they’d enjoy, and all our meals are prepared fresh in house by our chef-led team with plenty of choices every day. Of course, if there is a particular dish your father would like added to the menu that isn’t on their currently, just let us know.

This care home has been the perfect place for my Mum. The staff will go out of their way to ensure my Mums needs are met. The only thing I would mention is the turnover of staff, there seems to be a continuous flow of new staff.
Reply from Samantha Debenham, Personal Assistant at Mill ViewWe are very happy to read your lovely comments about Mill View and the care at the home – thank you for your kind words and excellent scores which we will make sure are shared with the team. Mill View is a real home from home. Everyone is treated as an individual with their own needs. It certainly is a warm and welcoming place to come into. Not in any way institutional. The catering is particularly good, very appetising and a great variety. The staff are all really friendly, caring and
professional and appear to go just that bit further. A lovely place when respite care is needed.

My mother who is able to a degree thought this would not be a suitable place for her and I was inclined to agree but she needed care and we didn't really know what to do. We looked at four places and Mill View stood out for us...Staff were understanding and compassionate. We decided to try it out.
My mother is very healthy, cared for, treated with kindness and dignity and we are most welcome and there 5 times a week at any time we like. My mother realises that this is not an old folks prison but a place where she has company and is very happy, healthier than ever and a much brighter person! Well done to Mill View! I sleep at night!

The home is a very friendly and warm place, and every staff member I have met has been outstanding. They all go that extra mile, with a smile, and the atmosphere is that of a private home. Everything is running very smoothly, and everybody always has time for a chat. The facilities are excellent, and
I have used the Cafe quite a lot - it is a lovely place to have a quick coffee. I have not experienced any restrictions on visiting times, and the staff are always very accommodating. It is a place I would choose for myself, should I need round the clock care in the future. Well done everybody!

Current Review Score: 9.8 (9.841)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 9.8 (9.841) out of 10 for Mill View is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  1. The Average Rating is 4.9 out of 5 from 17 Reviews in the last 24 months.
  2. The score for the number of positive Reviews is 4.9 out of 5 from 17 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  1. 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months. The Average Rating of 4.916 for Mill View is calculated as follows: ( (186 Excellents x 5) + (17 Goods x 4) ) ÷ 203 Ratings = 4.916
  2. 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5'). The 4.925 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Mill View is based on 17 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    1. 4 points are available for the first 20 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews, 0.05 Points for the next five Positive Reviews, and finally 0.025 Points for the next ten Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.050, 7th = 0.050, 8th = 0.050, 9th = 0.050, 10th = 0.050, 11th = 0.025, 12th = 0.025, 13th = 0.025, 14th = 0.025, 15th = 0.025, 16th = 0.025, 17th = 0.025, 18th = 0.025, 19th = 0.025, 20th = 0.025) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 = 3.925
    2. 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 70 registered maximum number of service users is 14, which has been reached with 17 Positive reviews. Points = 1
  3. When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.
  4. If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.

Job Title: Home Manager

I am a dual-qualified and registered adult and children’s nurse with 40 years of experience. I spent 25 years in the NHS in a variety of roles, from Registered General Nurse to Paediatric Ward Manager. I left the NHS in 2007 after completing a Level 5 Leadership and Management course in order to manage a care home.

Being a Home Manager carries huge responsibilities. You have to be a good communicator and have a passion for caring for others. However busy it gets, I take the time to walk around the home and speak with residents, relatives and colleagues. It always reminds me of what differences we're making in people’s lives. My team is amazing, and I look forward to working with them every day.

When I’m not at work, I love spending time with my husband and two rescue dogs who we adore. When I can, I also like to travel up north to see my children and grandson. But most days you’ll find me pottering in the garden or curled up with a good book.
