My mum and dad are cared for and supported in the best way possible. All of the staff are amazing at what they do, and this makes the life of my parents and me much easier. A special note of gratitude to the deputy manager for her unwavering love and support. All of the staff on the first floor work so hard to provide love and support, and it is very much appreciated.

My Mum has been at Oak Tree Lodge since August 22. I can honestly say that I am absolutely amazed at the standard of care given to my Mum since she arrived. Every single member of staff goes above and beyond the call of duty to help and look after the residents here. The home is a modern and nicely decorated space but what really makes it are the staff who are angels.
My mum is Jewish and from the very first day every effort was made to ensure that her cultural needs were taken care of. They even sent her a card for Jewish new year in September. I was literally blown away by this gesture. The manager and her staff are simply exceptional.

Thank you Oak Tree, our family will be forever indebted for your kindness and wonderful care given with love throughout my Mums stay.

On our first visit, we were greeted with a lovely welcoming reception area - bright, clean and fresh, and the manager was so engaging and interested in Mum and all her requirements.
Mum has been in the home for a couple of months now and has settled much better than we could have imagined. She has a beautiful bedroom, decorated with all her personal belongings and she also enjoys being in the sunny, spacious lounge/dining area too, where she has made many friends. All areas are modern, clean and homely.
The staff are wonderful! They are so caring and interact with Mum on a very personal/individual level, which she loves. Nothing is too much trouble and they are always cheery and helpful.
Entertainment is great and Mum loves singing along with the entertainers (and often sheds a happy tear as the music evokes many happy memories).

I am so happy we found this home for Mum. It is just perfect!

My mum has been a resident at Oak Tree Lodge almost a year now, and I have found the care she receives to be absolutely excellent which has taken a great deal off my mind as I initially struggled with having to place her in a care home. However, I didn't need to worry as she settled very quickly and the individual care she receives from the staff is fantastic. Special thanks to one staff member, but to all the staff team in general who do such a great job in what can be challenging situations. I have particularly been impressed with the way staff personally interact with the residents and are so friendly and respectful. The home is clean and welcoming and Mum likes it, and always comments on how well fed she is. My mum is also Afro-Caribbean and I too am thankful that her personal care needs are taken care of. Wonderful care home.

When we come to visit my Mam, the reception is the first part we enter and the gentleman we first see is always smiling and very polite and helpful. The carers are great, can't do enough for my Mam and us too. She is so settled and happy in which we never have to worry. They are always doing activities and celebrate every occasion. Birthday, Christmas, Saint Patrick's day and so on. They put a lot of effort and compassion into everything they do.

The care the staff give is excellent and they always take the time to chat. I am usually informed of any incident no matter how small. The food used to be really good and varied but the male chef left last year and Mum isn't too happy about most of the meals. Mums room could do with redecorating as it wasn't done before she moved in almost 18 months ago, and there is no pile to the carpet it's worn flat. The grounds leave a lot to be desired, rubbish and weeds and the garden and garden sleeper walls are terrible.

Staff are excellent manager very helpful.

Review from David M (Brother of Resident) published on 9 June 2021 Submitted via Website
Overall Experience

My brother has Alzheimer's causing him considerable confusion, frustration and distress. He entered Oak Tree Lodge who were unable to cope with him. Matters were not helped by quarantine isolation that prevented him from leaving his room or anyone visiting him. He was eventually hospitalised for aggressive behaviour possibly caused by an infection. With no infection found, he was subjected to another 14 day period of quarantine on return. His behaviour continued to deteriorate to the point that Oak Tree felt they could no longer meet his needs. The home declined my offers of help, relying on one-to-one support, which is no substitute for family support. Homes have a duty of care for all their residents, but there has to be some discretion when it comes to difficult residents who are confused and find themselves in completely unfamiliar surroundings. Oak Tree has Alzheimer’s down as one of their specialist care categories, but I don’t feel that is justified.

Reply from Kirsty Fennell, Manager at Oak Tree Lodge

We appreciate your feedback regarding the review of Oak Tree Lodge but we are disappointed with this review. We have discussed all aspects of your brother’s care with you, as well as the appropriate government guidance regarding infection control and safety. Whilst we provide quality tailored...

We find the home very welcoming, nothing is too much trouble, the staff are very friendly and obliging, it is like being with an extended family. The home is excellent value for money, clean and well-run. The food is great and the chef is always trying and asking residents about their preferences. Overall a lovely place for our father.

After looking at around 40 care homes to put my elderly mum, with Alzheimers, in for respite, I chose Oak Tree Lodge as the staff (management) were knowledgeable, informative and took time and shared insight and kindness. My mum has spent a week in respite there and was happier than I'd seen her in years. The managerial approach and response is obviously at the forefront and cascaded down to their staff. I found them all open and honest in regards to giving me positive feedback, as well as truthful in relation to my mum getting up at night, being unsettled, when she was eating well, packing her belongings up, wanting to leave, wanting to stay etc. When I visited unannounced, my mum was engaged in activities, she was clean and responsive. All staff made a fuss of her. They genuinely seemed to enjoy their jobs. I left with a happy heart every time.

I am pleased to introduce myself as the registered Home Manager at Oak Tree Lodge care home. I have 14 years of experience of working in care homes. I began my career in care when I worked as an agency carer whilst studying Nursing at the University of Leeds. At the end of my second year of study, I was offered a permanent position by the company I had been working for.

After taking the decision to leave my nursing studies in 2011, I worked as a Senior Carer for five years. I then became Deputy Manager with Anchor in 2016 and was promoted to Home Manager a year later. I moved to Oak Tree Lodge last year and I am very proud to be Home Manager.

I am passionate about providing a high standard of care and treating our residents with respect and dignity. It is my responsibility to ensure that resident’s individual needs are met from the start of the pre-assessment to admission. I look at a dedicated team who have the relevant training to be responsible for ensuring each resident is looked after with care and compassion.
